[WTSuggest] Open new section for store sales

I feel that Garage Sales and the related subsections should be for personal sales only. Dealers that are selling (not bulk order) often clog up the forum with their topics. I'm not targeting any particular dealer but it's quite a hassle to search for 2nd hand items without inadvertently clicking on those dealers' topics. So I suggest that a new section for Dealer Stores should be opened.

[Poll] Dead/stuck pixels

I have 1 stuck pixel on my BenQ 19" widescreen that can't be repaired (tried massage method and those trippy utilities). Most of the online literature state that dead pixels are rare (probability increases with total number of pixels I guess) but how true is that?
So most LCDs sold have 0 dead pixels? Buyers who bought LCDs with dead pixels are just having plain bad luck?

[SOLVED] Com cannot start

I left the PC while playing CnC3, came back an hour later and found it switched off. Try to switch on again but it doesn't run. My findings:

1. Power to the socket extender is ok. (monitor, ADSL modem, etc running)
2. Power to the mobo is ok (mobo has a green LED, lit when power is available)
3. When I press the power button, the casing fans turn a bit then stop.
4. No display on monitor, no POST, no beeps
5. Removed RAM and power connectors to all devices except for the motherboard, still no go.

So it is a problem with the PSU or the motherboard? If the fuse is burnt then the mobo shouldn't have any power at all right? Sifus, please help..

Broadband provider
ISP/package: Streamyx Basic 512
Location: Kepong, Kuala Lumpur
Have you called your ISP's helpline?: Yes

Personal equipment
Modem: D-Link 300G
Router: -
Firewall used: -

Problem details
First occurence of problem: Mid May 2006
Problem frequency: Every 10 mins
Problem description: Error 678, very high latency, packets dropping, local SNR around 5-11 dB

First called the hotline on 16 June (Friday), got redirected to Streamyx department and answered the operator's questions (if I tried direct connection, disconnecting the phone and using modem only, etc) and he opened a report 1907xxx. Said a technician will call in 1-2 working days.

A technician by the name Azmi called me on the same day (7pm) and gave me the same list of troubleshooting items as the operator, and told me to call 1300881515 and ask them to open a new report with "Frequent Disconnection" as the problem.

Called them again on 20 June (Tuesday), opened a new report 1927xxx. Said a technician will check at their end first, and if the problem is not resolved, they will send one to my place in 2-3 working days.

Problem still recurring yesterday (22 June) but after midnight the line works fine again. A technician came over on 23 June (today) and checked everything, did a "ping 202.188.1.5 -t" and the line works perfectly. Said he resetted my port before he came and that's probably why everything's fine when he arrived. Showed him the DSL parameters page and local SNR is a miraculous 26+ dB (yay!), although he didn't understand what it was for. So problem is resolved in one week. Just hoping it won't recur..

Conclusion: My first experience with TMNet tech support

Only tested with Netgear ADSL modem routers. Read:

1. Credits to megablue (got the name from the original script thread) for the idea and the original script.

<s>2. Requires wget (http://xoomer.alice.it/hherold/wget-1.10.2b.zip) in the same directory as script</s>

3. Script prompts are as follows (for troubleshooting/customizing purposes. Make them comments if you find them annoying. eg oShell.Popup to 'oShell.Popup)

Script running > Checking > 1. Disconnect and retry, or 2. Show captured string and quit

4. Works for Windows XP (stock, SP1, SP2, anything that works OK with VBscript and telnet, also means you'll need to tell your antivirus/firewall software to exclude this script)

5. Quoting Suk from the original script thread:

QUOTE(Suk @ Mar 20 2006, 02:29 AM)

HOW TO USE : COPY the code into notepad then save as connect.vbs and then double click connect.vbs
HOW TO CLOSE : ctrl + alt + del > process > wcscript

DISCLAIMER: We at Lowyat.NET will not be held responsible for any damage done in any way to yourself and/or your computer(s) by using this script. Use it at your own risk.

6. Routers should have the following features for the script to work (may still require further customization):
<s>-Web-interface with HTTP authentication (with popup dialogue asking for username and password. Those with PHP/CGI login screens, sorry, try posting the page source here)
-PPPoE dialling (either built-in modem or bridged modem) with buttons to connect/disconnect (POST method)</s>
-Most Viking chipset-based routers are supported

7. Configuration as follows:

QUOTE

TempFileName = "telnet.tmp" 'Processed temp file
IPInString = "60.48" 'String to search for
IPNumber = "60." 'Beginning of IP to search for.
UserName = "admin" 'Router username
Password = "admin" 'Router password
RouterIP = "192.168.0.1" 'Router IP
PPPName = "ppp-0" 'PPP entry name. Usually is ppp-0

8. Supported routers:
RESERVED

9. This new script simulates keyboard button presses (including "Enter") so please do not click anywhere else until the script is finished/terminated.

Personally, I've no use for this script as all I get are 60.x.x.x-ers. And read about Bandwidth vs Latency here:
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/694

Have fun guys!

Miscapped or new Streamyx "Feature"?

- Using DLink DSL-300G, RM66 package (512Kbps)

- Downstream rate is no longer constant (used to show 3072Kbps for mine) and now it will fluctuate between 416, 544, etc for G.dmt mode. Other modes will show rates around 512 as well.

- I doubt it's an issue with my telephone line as I was able to achieve 1Mbs with my friend's account.

Anyone been having this problem recently?

Odd Streamyx account name suffix

Last time I had ******@streamyx and after resetting my password with TMNut (coz I can't connect for a few days, and I can't access the self service page with my previous user/pass) I got ******@tmnet

The new user/pass pair doesn't work either. Lazy to waste a day at TMNut again so I'm using my friend's account at the moment. Any idea?

PS: I think some mods might think this should be in Broadband Tech Support, but I don't need help figuring out the settings, just whether others have encountered the same suffix.
