Wall Decoration Ideas

Hi all,

My 3 bedroom small/medium sized apartment is coming to the final stages of renovation. If all goes as planned, furniture, curtains and blinds will be in by 3rd week of June.

I am in a bit of dilemma or lost on how to decorate the empty walls. From what I have researched, oil paintings costs more than RM 500 and above (at least from what I have looked at). I am an art lover but not in a position to spend too much on each frame.

I have contacted one of the forum members here who has pretty good collection of canvas prints but has left the business now.

My apartment has an open plan concept like many units do these days - Living, Kitchen, Dining and then 2 bed rooms and 1 study room or what I call as "sanctuary" as I am planning to have my exercise/yoga done in that room. Walls that I am planning to fill up with some deco are in the following areas (have attached some photos that I have at the moment):

1. Living or Dining (this is an open plan concept - living, kitchen, dining comes together. This is where I am planning to have a long mirror and frames)

2. Master bedroom - above the bed frame

3.Study room / Sanctuary .... AND

4. the corridor between 3 rooms where I have the track lights mounted - so a painting there would be nice!

My questions are:

Where can I find reasonably priced art works / long mirrors in Klang Valley. ?
Besides, paintings what other wall decor ideas can I consider that will not cost me arms and legs ?

This is my first apartment and have never had a need to scout for these stuffs before - so am completely lost.
Any inputs that will give me some direction on where to go will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I am looking for a reliable digital peephole viewer. While browsing through the net, I found this particular brand: BRINNO. Checked out youtube video and seem quite impressive. Has anyone here used it before? If yes, please do share your reviews.

Thanks so much.

unable to decide on lighting

Dear All,

I am exhausted with my research to find appropriate lighting ideas for my 3 bedroom apartment. I am tired of the clueless look the light shop owners/sales guys give me whenever I said, I do not have plaster ceiling and down lights. Some even said it is almost impossible to get decent and modern lighting for the apartment without having down lights as my main source of lighting.

This is my very first apartment and I have zero experience. My concern is whether lighting is sufficiently bright, no strobe/shadow from the ceiling fans, and optimum layout.

I have no idea what size of lighting fixture i should use.

I won't be using any wall lights.

Kitchen / Dining / Living

I have attached a photo of how the open plan of my apartment appears like. From the entrance, it goes kitchen --> dining --> and then --> Living. There is one fan unit between the living and dining.

I have also attached the individual pic of lights that I was considering for these 3 areas but not sure if I am on the right track.
[attachmentid=4363811]

[attachmentid=4363849]

However, having said that, I did take a chance and have bought a set of pendant lights for my dining though after careful thought of my budget - set of 3 crystal lights. I grabbed it at CIMA Lighting in PJ since it was the last display unit they had and wanted to clear it. Photo is attached.
[attachmentid=4363807]

The last photo is a collage of all individual pics including the overall of the area I am talking about. [attachmentid=4363850]

Both kitchen and living lights were chosen from Seng Hup but due to some unpleasant experience (the sales people were extremely unprofessional) throughout my selection and ordering process, I am considering to cancel the order (but not finalised yet). And if I do cancel the order, I will have to carry out the whole exercise of selection process at a different store of which I would like to just duplicate my choices if am on the right track now. This current situation is what prompted me to post my questions here.

I do plan to have a floor lamp at the corner of my L-shaped sofa but I guess that would be the last item I would buy after all furniture are in.

I am now at lost in finding the appropriate lights with a minimalist & modern touch for kitchen and living that would complement with the pendant lights that I have bought. I have some ideas of what could possibly suit the rooms which I have listed below.

3 Rooms (2 bedroom) + 1 small room (what I call as Sanctuary room)

I planned to have mounted ceiling lights in all 3 rooms. Something like this : EGLO - Quarto 1
What are your thoughts?

Both bedroom will have at least one bed side table and a lampshade that will be placed on it.

The small room a.k.a sanctuary room is planned for a simple study table, meditation area and also will have a cross-trainer. You can perhaps see the functionality of this room.

The technical details of choosing the lights overwhelms me and I hope someone from this forum could guide me through.

Thanks in advance.

Piping exposed in bathroom & kitchen (apartment)

I have 2 of this narrow and small bathrooms (pic attached) in my new apartment (Sorry I don't have exact measurements)

Bathroom :

I don't plan to enlarge them as it will definitely cost arms and legs. Following are my initial thoughts and you can guide me based on these points:

1. I was thinking of adding a shower screen to separate the toilet and shower areas. My idea of adding a shower screen also came about because I didn't want to have the instant water heater exposed (bulky look). However, found that shower screen may not be a practical idea as the shower space will become narrower. Suggestions required for instant water heater (rain shower included) that is practical and aesthetically nice for a narrow bathroom like this.

2. I am planning to change the PVC folding doors to bi-fold doors but not sure which type of bi-fold doors to go for or what to look out for when selecting bi-fold doors. The piping exposed underneath the sink is something I would like to address too. Please advise.

3. The width of the area above the basin and WC is about 4 ft and I am thinking of adding a mirrored medicine cabinet for storage purposes. I would like to also add one or two power points for use of hair dryer, towel rail, etc.

Kitchen :

Another picture you can see is the view of the kitchen, dining and living areas from the entrance. I find the exposed piping is really an eye sore for that area. The walls in that area completed with tile finishing - it looks white in the photo but actually they are light grey tiles. What can I do to hide the pipe and how would it affect the overall look of the area. I have no clue whom I should approach for these type of issue.

Would appreciate if all the experienced "experts" here could shower me with suggestions on how I can furnish it tastefully and practically at a minimal cost. This forum has been my bible for my reno journey.

Thanks forumers!
Instant water heater for apartment style bathroom

Hi All,

I need to purchase and install an instant water heater for 2 bathrooms in my new apartment (10th floor). Rubine was the brand I had in mind (have not done much research though) which I have attached the model I am looking at (.pdf copy).

While I can do some research on important criteria to consider before purchasing instant water heater, I am not very sure whether the installation can be done neatly. The attached photo shows the appearance of water heater installed at my parents’ place. I am not sure of the rationale my dad had for leaving the PVC pipe exposed that way.

Another photo shows the size of my apartment bathroom and if you take a closer look, you will find that there is a power point close to the window and shower head 009E_Master_bedroom_bath.JPG

My questions:

1. Am I right by saying that instant water heater will be my only option for hot water supply or is there any other option that I am now aware of?

2. Looking at the photo (Instant_water_heater_at_parents.jpg) – if I do install an instant water heater, do I have to resort to the ugly looking PVC or is there a way to get the whole installation work to be done neatly. Would really appreciate if anyone of you is in a similar situation but managed to get it installed without compromising much on the aesthetics to share your photos (you can PM me if you are not comfy sharing publicly).

3. As for the power point – Is it normal for apartment bathroom types to have one near the shower head? Is it safe and if it’s not, what should I do?

4.	If you guys think I should get an expert opinion, who would that be? A plumber, may be?

Browsed through this forum but it did not really answer many of my questions. So decided to post my question here. Appreciate polite replies. Thanks so much.
Kitchen hood and hob

Hi all,

I have recently bought an apartment which has obviously a small kitchen (layout attached). I am looking for hood with a measurement of 2ft (60 cm) and hob at about 60 - 75 cm wide : anything more than this will take up space of my yet to built kitchen cabinet. I found one in Smeg - http://www.smeg.my/product/kset61/ and it costs about RM 1300.

Appreciate some inputs from anyone in a similar situation as I am looking for a smaller hood & hob with a reliable brand reasonably priced.

Thanks,
Sham
