Thoughts on these for commute + spirited driving?

Hi fellow petrol heads,

Have set aside DP for my own first car. Currently driving and helping maintain family-owned cars (F54 Clubman JCW, F30, Axia, Vios Dugong). No commitments right now (living with parents), no plans to tie the knot for 4-5 years. Yes, I know that perhaps it may not be the best idea, but just wanted to get a good idea first.

About my preference:

50% weekend spirited driving, 50% commutes (roughly 80-100km daily weekday mileage for work + evening class)

General Priority: Engaging handling -> Power -> Fuel Economy/Reliability

Reliability is not of the utmost importance (can rely on family cars if need to go into workshop), but ofc I do not want it to be sitting in a workshop for weeks at a time

Not keen on SUVs/Crossovers

Preference for Hatches, Wagons, and Sedans

Am keen to acquire one of these used cars below (have set aside DP and extra set aside for repairs, planning to loan 5 years tops):

2016, 2017, 2018 Mazda 3 Hatch

2019, 2020, 2021 Mazda 2 Hatch

2014, 2016 Mazda 6 Wagon

ZC32 Suzuki Swift Sport 1.6 MT (I am unsure how decent the AT model is?)

2016 Veloster Turbo (Yes, controversial styling but love it!)

2017, 2018 Elantra Sport 1.6

2016 Subaru Levorg

Was wondering if anyone can give their perspective on their ownership experience of these cars, and can give an idea of their general reliability as well as price/availability of their spare parts.

If any other suggestions that you think would be good, please share and convince me!

Oh and if all the blood, sweat, tears (and money) is/was worth it for the smiles.

Was wondering. Govt says that fully vaxxed parents can bring their unvaxxed under-18 children out for dine in. I am fully vaxxed and above 18 but am a sibling to a younger brother (17). Am I still allowed to take him out or does SOP strictly allow only parents to do so?

Flight+Racing Sim Rig

Hi all,

My dad has been a massive flight sim fan - particularly FSX and XPlane 11. Recently he has been a bit more busy but he's really keen on getting a rig for Flight Simulator 2020. I tried it out using a basic flight stick and I was blown away compared to FSX.

Does anyone know any builder that would help source the parts and assemble the rig to our needs?

I am more of a racing sim fan so we'd like this rig to be compatible with both flight and racing. Heard mixed reviews about the Next Level Ultimate line etc.

Builder would not be sourcing a PC - I'll be building a beefy PC for the rig.

He wants all the bells and whistles - triple screen stand, surround sound, etc.

I know its a bit niche but if anyone is or knows someone that does this kind of service, do send me a message!

Hi all,

I have a 2017 13-inch Macbook Pro. It's starting to throttle massively. I can especially notice it when doing work on Adobe LR. The first few photos process fairly quickly but after a few mins, it becomes unbearably slow. Sometimes reaching 85-90c even whilst watching 1080p60 on YouTube. This is with fans on full power. I suspect that the thermal paste needs to be reapplied. I still have thermal paste from building my PC but after watching the steps needed to get access to the CPU die, I've decided fuck no.

I use the laptop frequently and it is crucial that it isn't down or away for a long time. I am going to drop by Lowyat Plaza as there are a few other things I need to grab. Any recommendations on where I can send my laptop for quick dusting and thermal paste reapplication service (preferably done within an hour or two)? I'd rather not go to an Authorized Service Center as the waitlist and turnaround times can be horrible.

My secondary PC needs an upgrade. Built in 2014. Currently sporting a i5-4670k, Maximus Hero VI, 12GB DDR3, and an MSI 970.

The CPU is being a huge bottleneck. I would like both a CPU and a motherboard. Used is preferred. If your motherboard uses DDR4, please include the price of the RAM as well. If it is DDR3, I won't need the RAM. I will need a CPU cooler as well please. Don't mind a stock one.

Documentary about KL

Hi guys.

For my IB Film class, I've decided to create a documentary about the 'heart' or 'spirit' of KL. I intend to create a positive image of KL.

It would be hugely beneficial if you guys knew some people that have interesting stories about KL. People who've spent their entire lives here. Born and raised here. People who live and breathe KL.

If you think that this could be you or you know some people who could be, just let me know and we could work things out.

The only requirements we have is that the people we would be working with speak English or BM, as we don't have a translator on hand to help us out with those speaking Mandarin, Tamil etc.

I'd like to remind you that this is not for commercial purposes and instead is just a daring idea for my film class.

My team only consists of two people, and we'd really like to go out and meet people and hear their stories. This is not purely just for class but for our own personal experiences as well.
