However, just for verification, how can I verify with microsoft that my license key is genuine.

Gigabyte 5850 died again?

I bought a system from a friend and he gave me a broken Gigabyte ATI HD5850 for free. It is still under warranty so I RMAed it and plug it in. It went great and I was very happy with the free 5850 . But, after a few months, the 5850 is making the same problem again last night. Few days earlier it sometimes crashes out of the blue even when I'm just surfing the net. The display will change to only displaying one color full screen. Somtimes it's white, sometimes black and sometimes brown. Then last night, while playing Deus Ex, it crashes again. As usual, i turned off and on my PC. but this time, it won't boot. The Bios post screen won't come up and the LED activity of my HDD and DVD drive is repeating the same routine. The fan of the 5850 will go strong at one point and then back to normal spin repeatedly. It's like the 5850 is preventing the PC from booting.

I tried plugging a stronger power supply which was more than 1000watt but still the same. So I know it's not my power supply problem. Ryte now using my rum8's Nvidia GTX275. Still haven't test the card on other system tho. I will try to RMA the card again but this is the 2nd time so I don't know if I should keep the card or not even if I can RMA it. Any ideas what's wrong actually? Is there any known issues of the Gigabyte ATI HD5850?

My PC spec:

AMD Phenom II X4 3.4ghz
4gb DDR3 RAM
550 watt Gigabyte ODIN
Gigabyte ATI HD5850
Don't remember the MOBO model...>___<...but i think it's Gigabyte also

Can't boot my pc

My pc was working properly until I add a 8800gt on the pcie slot. The display won't show anything. After a few checks and reboot, it finally show something. But there's a noise that I thought comes from a wire hitting a fan inside my pc. So, I decided to turn off my pc and rearrange the wires inside. Then I tried to reboot back and it occurs again. I have no display. The fans are spinning but there's no activity on the HDD and I can't eject my cd drive. Here's a list wat i've tried:

1- I disconnect all things from the mobo leaving only the proc and ram. Still nothing.
2- I removed the mobo batt like more than 15 minutes. Still nothing
3- I removed the 8800gt and tried the onboard display. Still nothing.

Now I'm out of idea. If I let it on for a few minutes, it will auto off. I suspect I need to change the mobo but at the same time Im not sure whether it's the mobo or the proc and I don't have any extra mobo to test my proc. Any ideas?

Hard to access HDD

Hello,

I recently bought a new HDD for my pc due to my old one got some access problem. This problem HDD has problems as listed below:

-hard to access data on it.
-slow if i copy data into it.
-makes my windows slow to boot if it is connected in the pc even tho my OS is on another HDD.
-if i install something on it, the installer will stop halfway through. This might be occur cos the pc lost connection to the HDD.
-as mentioned above, tend to lost connection.

I think the warranty has ended. The HDD is 250gb seagate btw. My question is, is it repairable? Or i better off throwing away this HDD?

Partiotioning a 1TB hdd

Just bought a new 1TB hdd and made some mistake during partioning it. Long stroy short, this is the current stat of my hdd partitions

What I want to do is moving the 50GB unallocated space in the Primary to the Extended partition.

I tried using G-parted live but dont see any option to do so in it. I'm hoping for a way to do this without having to disturb other partitions.

Any suggestions?
