Question about RAM & Windows 7

Just helped a friend reformat his PC(windows 7 64-bit), and he's asking me to install the latest photoshop, illustrator etc for his course(he's taking advertising).

He's using an Acer aspire 4715z which comes with 1gb of ram and a 1.6ghz dual core processor, which is pretty low spec for windows 7.

I've been thinking about doing the following actions to give better performance:

1. Upgrade the ram from 1gb to 2gb(motherboard supports up to 2gb max according to acer)
2. Downgrade the OS from windows 7 64-bit to 32-bit to use up less resources

Would both actions cause significant differences, or only one? Or would it be better if i just leave it alone and just install the software?

Thanks in advance.

High protein hawker food?

So....what kind of hawker food do we have that's not just purely carbs(char kuey teow, noodles etc)?
Have a hard time trying to find ways to grab 220g of protein per day, the only two dishes I can think of is chicken rice or 'chap fan' while taking mostly meat dishes.

Any suggestions? Also, anyone knows how much of carb, fats and protein does a plate of chicken rice contain? Can't seem to find that online since it's a malaysian dish...

Almonds, where to get?

So there's all the info about how almonds contain good fats, and are high on protein and good for us etc.

Where's a good place to get them? I've checked Giant supermarket and they sell like small packs for RM3 which is pretty pricey if bought in large amounts, didn't seem to see any large packs at all. There's also not many "normal" almond packs, most of them are honey coated and shit. Anyway, anyone knows any other place to get them?

Classic wow from popular?

So I've read that popular was selling classic wow and tbc for RM55 and RM50, but I tried asking the one in Ikano and the staff there said it was out of stock. Even the game shop there was out of stock, they said there was a lack of stock internationally, and there won't be any stock coming anytime soon >_>

Any idea if there are other populars with maybe a few units left? Or where else around PJ/KL can I get them at a reasonable price? Thanks~

My friend's in china and he wants to add ram to his cousin's PC to play WoW.
His cousin's motherboard is Intel 845 which supports DDR 200/266.
Would the ram work if he bought a DDR 400 for the motherboard? Or it won't support?

I realized when I put my hand on the casing part that's above the PSU..The area's damn hot. So I looked and I saw the fan in the power supply wasn't spinning.

Is it worth opening the power supply to fix it? Not sure how..

Long startup + weird delays

Just got my com back from lowyat after they installed a new heatsink.
Everytime I start my com, it takes 10 minutes just to startup, with the HDD light almost on all the time.
Plus the system is smooth as usual but when I double click on a program or do ctrl-alt-delete the program/taskmanager will have a 3-5s delay before it appears(HDD light is on when this happens).

I was wondering what kind of problem this is...if it's a software problem I'll have to reformat, if it's the sata cable or the HDD I'll have to pay even more to replace..

Just some questions about weight lifting

Just a little curious.
I used to play basketball, but now that I've stopped and started eating my weight has increased....alot. I plan on doing some jogging and all and lifting weights so that I can get back into shape and play well again.

What I want to know is, how much is the difference in terms of results if I do or do not make a commitment to work real hard at that. I mean, if I did real general stuff like what someone else said in another thread:

QUOTE

moring 50 both arms after jogging before bath
and before dinner after jogging another 50 both arms
up and down slowly. body must straight if you dont wanna hurt your back..
BTW: mine is 5kg each! laugh.gif

Compared to reading up on articles for weightlifting(like not lift weights with bad form,or using different weights for bulking/toning), nutrition, forcing myself to train and eat what is recommended.

Is it a huge difference?

The reason I'm asking this is because I'm still a student and my course is pretty stressful and takes up alot of my time, so unless it's really worth it, I'm thinking twice before committing. Btw just normal-sized muscles would do, don't want them the size of darklight's. (Hope he's not reading this)

I'm using the standard aztech modem for streamyx, and most of the time when it rains or even after it rains, the dsl light will start blinking and the connection is gone. Most of the time if left alone, it won't stop blinking. Most people I know use the dialing trick where you call that number with your handphone, but it seems to work for a while only.

I've read somewhere that the real problem is the line outside the house, between the telephone pole and the line in the house, and that telekom can replace it to fix the problem for a small fee. Is that true?

What I'd like to know is if there's anyway to fix it other than that method, since I'll be shifting soon (but not soon enough), so it's not worth it to replace but I can't stand the line disconnecting by itself like that..

CPU temp 100 degrees..

I was changing thermal paste for my processor, and when I restarted the cpu temperature was 100 degrees.Funny thing was the fan was only spinning at 2500rpm..The system didn't auto-shutdown but the fan got noisier and noisier and I turned it off in fear of the chip burning..

Any idea what went wrong?I'm thinking it might be the temp sensor..I don't think I applied the paste wrongly and it wouldn't have caused such a huge change even if I did..

(Proc = 2.66Ghz 775 socket)

Using new ram on old motherboard

Well, since I have to wait for a month for my motherboard to get back after claiming warranty..

I've been using my family com and it's kinda slow when I play game's and stuff. It's using a P4 Titan GA-8SIMLH motherboard, which supports up to DDR333 SDRAM.

I was wondering if it's possible for me to temporarily use my ram for that com to make the com run smoother.I have 2 pieces of Kingston DDR2 533,family com has a 256MB DDR ram..

Is it possible at all?

Well,I've had this problem for quite some time already.

I turn on my PC,the graphics card and processor fan starts spinning, the red light in front of the casing stays on instead of blinking, and my monitor stays the same, nothing appears on-screen.
So the whole cpu is powered up but nothing appears on screen.Something I noticed is that the cd-rom drive light is on but when I press the eject button it doesn't work.
It sounds like the pinned thread about capacitor problems but I can't seem to notice any leakage..

Any idea on what's wrong?
