Pos Malaysia's registered tracking is a total crap

Hey guys,

tldr: A quick rant on the Pos Malaysia's international registered online tracking that you need to pay on top of your usual package (mine was Flexipack International). Paid additional RM 4.6 for the tracking only to find that the tracking stopped after it left Malaysia for New York.

I wanted to send a small item using Flexipack international to New York so I paid the fee for that then I was asked to pay another RM 4.6 for tracking. I did so thinking that I could see the progress from Malaysia all the way to New York but after it left KLIA, the online tracking was not updated anymore even after it arrived at the destination. I just wasted my nasi goreng kampung money to track my item from the Pos Malaysia counter to the KLIA departure. So guys, don't waste your money on the so-called international registered fee; save it for your lunch money.

End of rant.
My 2cents
Bad experience buying with Gemfive

Hi all,

I would like to add my bad experience with GemFive with you all and hope others can learn from mine:

I ordered an expensive item, Garmin Forerunner 235 for RM 1520 from GemFive. I bought a few items from there before but they are all low priced items and I did not find any problems then so I decided to buy this watch there as they were giving some discounts.

Shipping took quite a while to arrive (about a week plus). As I was eagerly excited opening up the package then to my horror this was what I find. See attached photos. The box has been badly crumpled and torn in some parts. Although there aren't any visible damage on the watch but because the merchant and Gemfive did not use any foam to absorb any impacts during shipment, it might have affected the watch internally seeing the box's bad condition!

To make matter worse, I bought this watch as a gift! How can I give a present in such a condition?!

For an expensive item such as this, I expected better packaging condition. There was no foam around the box to protect it from damage, only the box and the plastic bag. This is incredulous to say the least. Even sellers that sells phone cases like this awesome seller package their items better than Gemfive. Their only reply to my complain is a cold "sorry, we will improve next time".

To sum it all, I am very disappointed with Gemfive. Guys, kindly think twice before purchasing any expensive items from them, their discounts might not worth it.

[attachmentid=6695016][attachmentid=6695017][attachmentid=6695019][attachmentid=6695021]

Compatible webcam for ThinkPad?

Hi

I've been thinking about getting a webcam for my R60 ThinkPad and when I got one cheap webcam (RM39) and installed it, it sort of screwed with my ThinkPad's software (my WiFi MAC address changed which disabled my WiFi). It works well with other non-ThinkPad laptop.

So here's my question, what brand/model of webcam should I get for my ThinkPad? It should be less than RM 100 of course.

Thanks in advance for your reply!

Regards,
WT

ThinkPad battery problem

Hi ThinkPad-ians,

I'm a proud owner of a ThinkPad R60 laptop. I have it for almost two years now and it has served me good even though I dropped it a few times while it was still running on the floor... Thank god for the Active Protection System thingy...

Anyway, it was all good until now when my battery suddenly failed me; it cannot be charged anymore. I only used it for 52 cycles with around 80% charges remaining and it suddenly cannot be charged (a yellow blinking light appears on the indicators). I checked the Lenovo website and found out that my battery was one of the recalled batteries; I was so excited that I might be getting a new battery. Alas, the excitement was damped when I saw that the recall period expired just a few months ago.

Even though my battery has a long life to go but due to the manufacturer's fault, it can no longer work and I can't even get it replaced for free because my battery's warranty is only one year (I have a three years warranty on my system) and the recall period expired. It's not fair to me. It wasn't my fault for not checking whether my battery was one of the recalled batteries because they didn't send me any announcements. Now I have a dead battery and I would have to pay RM200+ just to get a new battery when my old battery can still work.

I love ThinkPad laptops but their customer service needs to be improved. Anyone has battery charging problem lately?

PS: I called Lenovo and they "adviced" me to get a new battery from one of their dealers. No replacement. Damned.

Winston
ThinkPad R60 9455-A53

Palm TX case: Where to get it in KL?

Hi,

I've dropped my Palm TX (I'm getting careless, I know!!) a couple of times and thank goodness that nothing major happened except for a tiny crack (two cracks) and now I'm freaking out!

Where can I find to buy a case (hard aluminium or silicon) in KL? I went to Low Yat but I couldn't find one, even at the Palm shop. I don't want to purchase it online (not an option because I don't even have a plastic cash in the first place) because I want to see it and try it out before I buy it.

How much would those cases cost?

Thank in advance

WT

Fujitsu S6420 or ThinkPad R60?

Hi,

I would like to ask everyone's advice, should I get the Fujitsu S6420 or ThinkPad R60? I know Fujitsu is a Centrino based processor while the ThinkPad is Duo Core 2 but they both weigh at 1.7kg and 2.6kg respectively. Its tempting to get the extremely light and cheap but old Fujitsu but is it worth the money? Its selling for RM3799 while the ThinkPad R60 is selling at RM3399.

Please advice.

IBM Laptop Warranty Problem

Hi

I'm having a problem with my IBM R51 warranty that I bought from a shop in Low Yat plaza called Notebook Studio. Its an old model (2888-N01 ) brought from Singapore to be sold here when I bought it around 8 months ago for RM3800 with 3 years warranty. When I checked the IBM website for the warranty period, it showed that the warranty period on this model expires on 2007 with the location stated Singapore. I bought this laptop last year which is 2006 so with the 3 years warranty, it should expires at the year 2009.

I called the shop about this and they told me that it doesn't matter because the warranty stated on the website cannot be changed but the warranty period on my laptop is still 3 years ending at 2009. I weren't assured by their claims so I insist that they do something about it. That was a 4 months ago and after numerous calls to them, this problem still persist and they didn't call me back even though they said they will. What can I do to solve this? Is there anything I can do? What rights do I have as a consumer on this matter?

I'm only just a university student and I don't want too much hassle but just a peace of mind.

Please advice.

Thanks in advance.
WT
