SINGAPORE: A 29-year-old man was taken to hospital on Tuesday (Mar 6) after he used his hand to smash
the windshield of a black Mercedes-Benz car, which had several people in it.

The police told Channel NewsAsia on Thursday that they were alerted to a case of voluntarily causing hurt
along Syed Alwi Road at about 3am on Tuesday.

The man was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, they said.

Channel NewsAsia understands the man, who was seen on video banging his fist on the windshield
until it cracked, suffered cuts on his hand.

In the video circulating on social media, the man is seen in an altercation with several people.

He can be heard shouting while several people attempt to restrain him.

He manages to break free, however, and starts punching the windshield of the car multiple times,
causing cracks to form.

The driver of the car drives off while the man is still punching it.

Police said they are looking into the matter.

Policewoman Assaults 2 Men In Public

PETALING JAYA: Police said it has commenced investigations on a video that showed an volunteer policewoman
assaulting two men following an argument over a personal matter at a restaurant in Mantin on Saturday.

The video which went viral in the social media on Monday showed the policewoman in who was in plain-clothes
attacking a man who wore a turban and was handcuffed on one hand.

The woman who is a member of the police volunteer reserve (PVR) and is attached to the Seremban district police headquarters
then turns to another youth and slaps him several times as shocked patrons present at the restaurant look on.

Both the men are said to be Indian nationals.

The assault by her continued on the handcuffed man and entire exchange of conversation between both parties was in Punjabi.

A man carrying a baby and several other men who were present during the commotion were also captured in the video.

Nilai deputy police chief DSP Azrul Hisham Mohd Shaffei when contacted by theSun said a police report was lodged
by the policewoman today and investigations are ongoing. He declined to comment further.

However, sources revealed that the incident occurred at about 3pm after two foreigners sought help from the policewoman
after another foreigner allegedly took their passports and cash.

The policewoman confronted the man, who was said to be an agent who provided visa renewal services and demanded
that he return the passports and cash of the two foreigners.

The agent allegedly insulted the policewoman who then reacted by assaulting him and another man.

Islam El Shehaby rejected the customary post-match ritual after losing to Or Sasson in a first round 100 kg match at the Rio Games.

Judo athletes generally bow and shake hands after the bout as a sign of respect for each other.

However when victorious Sasson, who is ranked fifth in the world, extended a hand of sportsmanship, El Shehaby refused to reciprocate the gesture, shaking his head.

While the Arab athlete did not explain his actions after the match, media outlets in Egypt are reporting that El Shehaby has received pressure from fans to not compete against the Jewish competitor.

On Twitter, one extremist supporter posted before the match: “You will shame Islam. If you lose, you will shame an entire nation and yourself.

“We don’t want to think what will happen if you lost to an Israeli. Victory will give you nothing. How can you cooperate with a murderous nation?”

Mataz Matar, a TV host at Arabic news network Al-Sharq, heaped even more pressure on to the Olympian by saying he would be a “traitor” if he lost the bout.

He said: “My son watch out, don’t be fooled, or fool yourself thinking you will play with the Israeli athlete to defeat him and make Egypt happy.

“Egypt will cry; Egypt will be sad and you will be seen as a traitor and a normalizer in the eyes of your people.”

American Jewish newspaper, the Algemeiner, reports El Shehaby has ‘extreme anti-Israel views’.

The sore loser reportedly said before the fight that he was considering pulling out of the contest, saying: “The situation is very sensitive. And I don’t want to discuss it.”

The International Judo Federation said that athletes are not obligated to shake hands post-match and even congratulated the pair for going ahead with the bout.

Spokesman Nicolas Messner said: “This is already a big improvement that Arabic countries accept to (fight) Israel.”

However he did add that El Shehaby's attitude “will be reviewed after the games to see if any further action should be taken”.

His opponent Sasson won his following match and has now progressed to the semi-finals.

Johor Monarch Wants All Vape Outlets In The State To Close Shop By Jan 1

JOHOR BARU: The Sultan of Johor has ordered a ban on vaping in the state and His Royal Highness has given the owners of vape outlets a month’s deadline to close down.

“I want the outlets to close down by January 1, 2016, and I do not want to hear any excuses.

“This is a question of health and its effects on young people.
It has nothing to do with businesses and for sure, it has nothing to do with race.

“I am greatly disappointed that some people are bringing up racial threats and political threats,” he said in an interview.

Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar said the state had the right to invoke bylaws under the local government laws to shut down vape outlets.

The Sultan ordered the state executive council to meet next week to hasten the process.

He said politicians should also stop pandering to businessmen in the vape industry.

“Why are these politicians giving in to these threats?
I want to know if these businessmen would allow their children to vape if it is so safe and healthy as they claim.

“Do you want to see your children puffing away?

“It is a new business. What kind of businesses were they doing before this? Go back to your previous work,” he said.

Earlier this month, Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Health Ministry’s
enforcement against the sales of vapes containing nicotine would kill the Malay-dominated industry.

The minister made the comment after several bumiputra groups lodged a police report warning that the crackdown
on vape could cost Barisan Nasional more than a million votes in the next general election.

The Johor Ruler said there would be long-term health effects of vaping and the medical cost, borne by taxpayers, would be staggering.

He said the ban in the state would cover all sales of vape products.

“It is also very clear, under the laws, that these vape outlets cannot sell nicotine,
so why are we expected to close an eye to such disregard of the law?

“If it is not allowed, then it is not allowed. It is that simple,” he said.

“If we allow this to continue, we will be seeing a whole new form of addiction among our youth,” he said.

The Sultan warned that those who flouted the law after Jan 1 would face the consequences.

Health experts have said that there has not been any scientific evidence to prove that e-cigarettes would help smokers with addiction.

They said it would not help smokers to quit but start a new form of addiction instead.

Soldiers Held Over Fuel Theft At Army Camp

KUALA LUMPUR: Two army personnel were arrested on Saturday for allegedly siphoning thousands of litres of petrol
meant for military vehicles over several months at their base on Jalan Padang Tembak.

Using a military-registered car which they had fitted with a large and specially modified fuel tank in its boot, the suspects,
a corporal and lance corporal believed to be in the 30's had sold the stolen fuel to a car repair workshop in Hulu Kelang at a discount.

The losses reported by the camp's transport division earlier prompted military police investigators to initiate a probe.

On Saturday, several military detectives who staked out at the petrol kiosk at the army camp for over six hours
spotted the suspects pulling off their crooked routine.

During the surveillance, army investigators found the men who are from two different divisions at the camp driving in the army car
before filling up the modified tank in the car boot with fuel and driving out of the base.

The returned and repeated the act but during their fourth attempt, the military detectives moved in and arrested the suspects
who had stolen a total of 1,600 litres of petrol on that day.

Military police lodged a police report and sought police help in tracing and carrying out an inspection at a car mechanic's workshop
where the suspects had sold the stolen fuel.

Wangsa Maju police chief Supt Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif who confirmed receiving a police report from army officials today
said the case was being probed by military police.

He said apart from the arrest of the two soldiers, the army detectives also seized part of the stolen petrol.

The case had also come to the attention of Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein who posted a message
in his Twitter account "I have ordered an investigation without fear or favour".
