Questions regarding bank credit card debt

Hi,

Let's keep this straight and simple. If a person's parents have some unsettled credit card debt (not enough to declare bankruptcy), is their children held liable for this debt?
I have a relative who has just started working for a couple of months, and her mom had outstanding cc debt with the bank years before that. She applied for a bank account and credit card at the same bank under her own name, and a couple of months later received a call from one of the Financial Services division personnel asking about her mom's debt. Her mom is currently unemployed due to health reasons, and as of such is unable to repay the debt.

Just to rule a few things out:
1. She have no joint accounts or any sort of banking accounts/credit cards with her mom at this bank.
2. She was never declared as guarantor or anything like that (she couldn't, her mom was already in debt before she started working).
3. She only started receiving calls from the bank a couple of months after she obtained her cc and bank account.
4. Recently she received some sort of threat mail from the bank saying that she (not her mom) will receive judgement from the civil court as below:

(a) Judgment Debtor Summons which will enforce repayment based on evaluation of your actual income which will affect your lifestyle spending.
(b) Garnishee Order is a court order attaching funds held by third party such as saving or time deposit with other banks.
© Writ of Seizure and Sale on movable and immovable properties
(d) Bankruptcy for judgment sum at least RM30,000.00
(e) Prohibitory Order. Bank will apply to court for permission to dispose of property

I am here to find out if she is liable for her mom's debts and how should she go about with it. Any helpful advice and answers are appreciated.

BRISBANE: An Australian woman who deliberately poisoned her four-year-old daughter with cancer drugs then detailed the girl’s “fight for life” on Facebook to garner attention for herself was Wednesday jailed for six years.

The 23-year-old, who cannot be named to protect her daughter’s identity, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm in what Judge Tony Rafter called “an incomprehensible breach of trust.”

“You must have been aware of the serious harm you were causing to your daughter,” he said in sentencing, the Brisbane Courier-Mail reported.

The Brisbane District Court heard the woman deliberately made her daughter ill by feeding her chemotherapy drugs bought online and set up a web page saying her daughter needed a bone marrow transplant.

Prosecutor Glen Cash told the court the mother gave the child drugs over a nine-month period to attract attention to herself.

“She procured toxic drugs ... and administered them to her daughter knowing they would cause her (serious) harm,” he said.

The drugs caused the child, who did not have cancer, to suffer life-threatening bone marrow failure last year.

Cash said health professionals suspected the young girl was being poisoned and their suspicions were confirmed when police searched the women’s home and found a pill crusher and receipts for the drug Cyclophosphamide.

Barrister Catherine Morgan, for the mother, said the woman suffered a rare mental disorder known as factitious disorder by proxy, whereby a person deliberately produces or exaggerates symptoms in someone in their care.

The court heard the girl, who was close to death last year, was now being cared for by her grandparents and had made a good recovery.

If you have ever experienced sounds (tak tak tak tak tak) coming from your engine during cold start in the morning, then it MAY BE one of the infamous Proton's manufacturing defect: the IAFM problem. IAFM noise is most noticeable during cold start, and you may hear the frequency of the noise going up or down depending on the RPM that the engine is running at. The noise is identical to a diesel truck or lorry's engine idling noise. Once the engine has warmed up, the noise will become softer or totally eliminated. This is because the plastic components on one of the valves on IAFM expands with heat. Below is a video of a member's car with IAFM problem.

So far the problems that may be associated with IAFM noise are nothing major, but in certain cases it may cause severe throttle lag, and the noise may get louder over time. Some owners have even experienced increase in fuel consumption and bad engine response.

If you visit the service centre and the mechanic or service attendant tells you that the noise is not caused by IAFM as our Persona Elegance comes with new batch of IAFM modules, DO NOT believe what they said.

You may:
1.) Ask them to diagnose and tell you what exactly is the problem since they insisted that it's not IAFM module noise.
2.) If the mechanics at CoSE tell you that the noise is not caused by IAFM, go to a few different SCs, have them to check your IAFM module for imperfections on the valve, then get them to write a report each. Compile these reports & bring it to CoSE's customer service and file a complaint, give it to their higher authority.

Now, do remember that they may not be able to figure the noise out if you send your car to SC as the engine has already warmed up. Park your car and leave it there for an hour or so for the engine to cool down, then get the service attendant or mechanic to listen to the noise as you start the engine.

Again, I would like to stress on this main point as I've experienced this myself and wasted almost a month plus before sending it to a different SC just to have the noise diagnosed as IAFM problem; If the guys at CoSE tells you that it's not IAFM problem but your guts and 13 other SCs tell u that it is, then it IS IAFM problem. In my case they never even bothered to check as the engine has already warmed up and the sound was gone by the time the mechanic laid his hands on my car.

This serves as an important announcement to all Persona Elegance (PE) owners as to not overlook this small issue that may lead to greater problems in the future. The price of IAFM modules has dropped since year 2009 (from RM 1200+ in late 2008 to RM 2xx in 2011) because of the frequency of Campro IAFM engines having this problem. Still, it's our right to claim the IAFM modules as they are covered under warranty and malfunctioned units are manufacturing defects. We should not wait till the warranty period is over and then pay them RM300+ including labour to fix a defect that is there from day 1 of ownership of the car itself.

I hope all the Persona Elegance owners out there take note of this issue and do not keep an eye closed.

TO ALL FELLOW PPLYNC MEMBERS WHO ARE DRIVING PERSONA ELEGANCE:

If you have ever experienced sounds (tak tak tak tak tak) coming from your engine during cold start in the morning, then it MAY BE one of the infamous Proton's manufacturing defect: the IAFM problem. IAFM noise is most noticeable during cold start, and you may hear the frequency of the noise going up or down depending on the RPM that the engine is running at. The noise is identical to a diesel truck or lorry's engine idling noise. Once the engine has warmed up, the noise will become softer or totally eliminated. This is because the plastic components on one of the valves on IAFM expands with heat. Below is a video of a member's car with IAFM problem.

So far the problems that may be associated with IAFM noise are nothing major, but in certain cases it may cause severe throttle lag, and the noise may get louder over time. Some owners have even experienced increase in fuel consumption and bad engine response.

If you visit the service centre and the mechanic or service attendant tells you that the noise is not caused by IAFM as our Persona Elegance comes with new batch of IAFM modules, DO NOT believe what they said.

You may:
1.) Ask them to diagnose and tell you what exactly is the problem since they insisted that it's not IAFM module noise.
2.) If the mechanics at CoSE tell you that the noise is not caused by IAFM, go to a few different SCs, have them to check your IAFM module for imperfections on the valve, then get them to write a report each. Compile these reports & bring it to CoSE's customer service and file a complaint, give it to their higher authority.

Now, do remember that they may not be able to figure the noise out if you send your car to SC as the engine has already warmed up. Park your car and leave it there for an hour or so for the engine to cool down, then get the service attendant or mechanic to listen to the noise as you start the engine.

Again, I would like to stress on this main point as I've experienced this myself and wasted almost a month plus before sending it to a different SC just to have the noise diagnosed as IAFM problem; If the guys at CoSE tells you that it's not IAFM problem but your guts and 13 other SCs tell u that it is, then it IS IAFM problem. In my case they never even bothered to check as the engine has already warmed up and the sound was gone by the time the mechanic laid his hands on my car.

This serves as an important announcement to all Persona Elegance (PE) owners as to not overlook this small issue that may lead to greater problems in the future. The price of IAFM modules has dropped since year 2009 (from RM 1200+ in late 2008 to RM 2xx in 2011) because of the frequency of Campro IAFM engines having this problem. Still, it's our right to claim the IAFM modules as they are covered under warranty and malfunctioned units are manufacturing defects. We should not wait till the warranty period is over and then pay them RM300+ including labour to fix a defect that is there from day 1 of ownership of the car itself.

I hope all the Persona Elegance owners out there take note of this issue and do not keep an eye closed.

pls avoid this SC at all cost. wat can i get from them as compensation arr?

In addition to all this, I was charged RM3.50 for processing fee. So much inconvenience caused and I am still charged a processing fee? What kind of service is this?

b. After 2 to 3 weeks of driving, I found that there was a knocking sound coming from my front right hand side. The knocking sound only appears when cornering on uneven ground. It was very prominent when driving up and down of Carrefour multi level parking. I complaint at Senaxis about this issue. They tried a few times to identify the problem but was not able to detect it. Therefore, I did some checking of my own. I found out from the internet and some friends that there was some issue with the previous design of the power steering fluid delivery unit. When i inform Senaxis about this, the answer from them was that my unit was the latest design and the issue was not from there. In addition, the mechanic there was telling me that this was the infamous Carrefour sound and there was no remedies for it at the moment even after I highlighted that it was from the power steering fluid delivery unit. Finally, i got it fixed when I send my car to CoSE. There was no questions asked and the power steering fluid delivery unit was changed as it was a known issue (when I asked the person attending to my car)

c. After 2 months of driving, I was faced with another issue. There was a high pitch screeching sound coming from the fan belt auto tensioner. After sending it to Senaxis, the mechanic informed me that it was normal for the sound to appear and that we (the drivers) are to concern as we do not know that this sound has no effect on the car what-so-ever and that we are just paranoid as the car is still new. The mechanics there just took out the unit and sand paper the part and told me that it is very dirty due to high silicone compound in the belt. After that, they told me that the issue has been resolved. Upon reaching home from the service center, the sound returned again. I went back there again (27th May 2011) after approximately a week plus. They did the same thing again. (Sand paper the part). The sound was still there after the unit was placed back with an addition of a knocking sound. They told me to return again another day to service the unit. I was forced to return to them again. This was on 31st May 2011. What they did was the same thing again – sand paper the part to “clean the dust”. When asked why isn’t the unit replace as it has been time and time again having the same issue, they informed me that it was not under proton to replace the part. The car is brand new, less than 9000km. The 3rd service has not been done yet. Why is it not faulty if it is having the similar issue even after it has been serviced? In addition, the mechanic told me that it was the best that they are able to do. There is nothing else that can be done. (I need to live with this defect?) What kind of efficient service is this?

d. service personnel are not professional in performing their tasks as they do not look into the proper manner to jack up a car. In two occasions, my side skirt were pressed in between the car jack and the car’s body. I am unsure whether there is any internal damage caused to the clips as it is not visible.

Actually, I went to Senaxis once last month to complaint about the door rattling and check my front bumper.
Got one skinny mechanic wearing black shirt dark skin very lazy and kinda dirty. Hand,shirt all black and touch my car.Never cover my seat but cincai cover the floor mat with news paper. I test drive with him to let him hear where the sound is coming from. He was like enjoying the ride rather than listening to my complaint. Then he go test drive my car. He put reverse got loud KERRRR sound. When he got back, he told the sound was normal. I said where got normal, he go put grease on the rubber.ZZZ and for the bitument layer gap,he said looks normal to me. Haiz, this kind of attitude,no use asking too much. If normal, I won't be wasting my time coming.
Sorry for the long story. Just sharing my experience.

Guys, it's been a while since we had a proper TT (last PROPER TT that we had was Mega TT V5.0 on the 14th May 2011 at Kayu Nasi Kandar, Aman Suria.), so I thought it might be a good idea to organize another TT on the 16th of September. It's a Friday and a public holiday, shouldn't be much of a problem for members to attend if they really want to and have the heart to do so.

What I meant by a proper TT? To be honest, we've had dozens of TTs and mini TTs, but new members rarely show up. It's as if their existence is purely fictional and they live only in the thread. The aim of this TT is to meet new members, share more knowledge about our dear Personas and have fun. Do not be intimidated by the use of English in this thread as we're a multi-racial community that speaks all sorts of language & dialects during TTs. (English, Malay, Cantonese, Hokkien, Mandarin, you name it.. I can speak Russian as well if you want me to. )

What are we going to do during the TT? Well the plan is actually to meet up at the parking lot by 8PM, and then we'll drive and bring our TT to Genting Highlands. Expecting around 10+ members to join this TT, but if it's less than that it's fine also.

I have some suggestions to make here.. Since this TT is gonna be quite big this time.. I don't quite want it to be a sosej-fest just like how the previous TTs used to be. And since our only female member (phythia79) is no longer active (how sad), this never-ending chain of gay parade will never ever cease to exist.

The point that I'm trying to illustrate here is.. Bring ur chicks along!! try to bring ur gfs or friends along if possible.. This TT is open to all, & of course.. The more the merrier.. What do u guys think about this? Feedbacks pls
