Installing Shared Printer

I have a HP 1300 printer connected to a desktop PC and shared. I was trying to install the shared printer on my notebook running Windows 7 64 bit. Clicking on the shared printer icon starts up Windows Update but it could not find the suitable driver. I went to the HP website (for HP 1300 drivers) to download the Universal HP PCL6 driver (windows 64 bit) which is a self-extracting file (.exe) and which will also install the driver, I suppose. Here is where I'm stuck. Starting from the install file, I simply could not find the printer to install, and starting from the shared printer, I can't find the .inf file in the extracted folder. Can some someone point me in the right direction?

Acer Aspire 4741G

Recently I bought an Acer Aspire 4741G and discovered that the wireless LAN in this model has lower capability than its "older" model.

My Acer has the Broadcom wireless LAN. My friend who bought his (same model 4741G) has the Atheros wireless LAN.
I have a Linksys basic wireless-N router that has the max transmit speed of 150 mbps.

My friend's older Acer is able to connect at the max speed of 150 mbps, while mine can only connect at 65 mbps max.

He can connect to his home router at 300 mbps, and I suspect mine will only be able to connect at half that speed.

I feel kinda cheated, as I assume newer models should perform better, and not worse.

I like to know if others noticed the same problem.

Unable to see network connection

I just bought a new Acer Aspire 4741G. According to the specs, it has the Acer Npilfy ™ 802.11b/g/n wireless capability.
I have a dual-band Belkin Play Max router which offers 2 separate wireless networks - the 2.4 GHZ and the 5 GHz.
Now the Acer detects and connects to the 2.4 GHz network, but it can't see the 5 GHz network. What gives?

Streamyx Webmail Problems

For some months now, I have been trying the get the technicians from TM to solve my problem which they have not been able to solve.
Last month, a new problem (related or not, I have no idea) has come up. Maybe, some of our experts can help the poor fellas over at TM. Each time, they call, I'll repeat myself in explaining the problem(s), and they'll say they look into it --- but nada, nothing's solved.

The problem: for some weird reason, my mailbox at the Streamyx server shows 30% full (capacity: 10 MB) even when there is zero byte in all the folders including TRASH. Fiddling with the options did nothing. Expunge did nothing. When the problem started, it was 28% full; now it's 30%.

Now, when I log in the TMNet Webmail, I see this message in the inbox: "This folder contains no message" even when there are new messages. Right now, it shows that there is 250K in the inbox folder. And when I download my messages with my mail client (Thunderbird); it will show 30% full on empty.

The first problem is annoying in that I have in effect only 70% capacity in my mail server.
The second problem is frustrating in that I can't check my messages on the road (which I had been doing through Webmail).

Anyone can help?

PC Start Up Problem

For a while now, my PC makes a loud whirring sound esp when the CPU usage reaches or exceeds 50%. Everything still works except for that dangerously sounding noise. I cleaned the PSU fan, CPU fan and GPU fan with an air-duster and it helped for a while.

Today, the screen suddenly went dark, and a few secs later the screen flickered on for a sec before going dark, the process repeating itself.

I shut down the PC and attempted to restart the PC. The boot up proceeded normally -- no beeps, no error messages -- until the window logo screen appears, and the PC rebooted by itself. All subsequent restarts went as described above.

My question: is this a PSU problem? CPU problem? or graphic card problem? or, something else altogether?

How do I go about diagnosing the problem?

I can access the Set Up screen -- everything there appears to be in order.

This is a 4 year old PC -- upgraded several times (graphic card, memory, hard disks) -- and still very usable, meeting all my current needs.

P.S. There is no BSOD.

Better Late Than Never!

Just received an sms on my Celcom mobile to the effect that TM wishes to inform that my complaint has been logged and action is being taken. A reference number was given and if more info is need, to call 100. Started to scratch my head as I can't remember making a complaint. So decided to call 100 and found out by way of elimination that the complaint is not Celcom related, not phone related but to a complaint I allegedly made way back in August about my Streamyx service. Racked my brain to figure out what went wrong in August and came up blank (not so young now, you see). Anyway, I am glad to report that TM does attend to your complaints --- even though it's four months late!

Emule & Traffic Shaping

Ever since TMNet started traffic shaping, I have not had very good experience with BT and started to use Emule more regularly, when even though slower had been much more stable. I would often get steady download speeds of 100+ KB/sec as well as steady upload speeds, especially when I get High ID, Obsfucated connection and Open status on KAD. I would change my ports whenever I suspect that TMNet have started to block my ports. Normally I would get 4000+ client on queue to upload and 5000+ sources from which to download. I believe I have "good credit" so normally I would move up the queue fairly quickly. However, two days ago, everything went south on me. Sources barely hit 1000 and clients on queue become strangely low, sometime even bordering at 0. All this even when I get High ID, Obsfucation connection and open KAD status. Has TMNet found a new way to block Emule? I realize that the Emule community here is much smaller than that of BT, but if there are some helpful souls out there with answers or even advice, I will be most grateful.
