Zowie Celeritas Mechanical Keyboard

Zowie, brand not known to all. Most will call it a stranger. I only came to know it via a close friend which he strongly recommends. Anyway, let’s cut the babbling, here we are with Zowie CELERITAS Mechanical Keyboard.
Here is it’s written specs:-

General functions:
•6 keys Anti-Ghosting through USB
•18K Gold Plated mechanical switches and USB connectors
•Ability to change the "Windows"-key to "Ctrl"
•Multimedia controls
•Highly durable metal inner chassis
•Ergonomic design saves space and offer full comfort during use
•Connector: USB / PS2 (by USB to PS2 converter)
•Cable Length: 1.8m / 5.8 ft.

PS/2 functions:
•Full Anti-Ghosting with PS/2
•ZOWIE RTR™ technology provides 4 levels of repeat-response (normal, 2x, 4x, 8x) - PS/2

Dimensions:
•Width: 44 cm
•Length: 16 cm
•Height: 2.5 cm

Let’s start with the whole packaging. The box looks decent although I expected more. After removing the seal, inside the box are:- 1)Keyboard, 2)USB-to-PS/2 Converter, 3)Zowie Sticker and 4)Packing form WHAT!?? Some may ask that’s it? Where’s the Disk Driver and User-Manual? Apparently Celeritas is a 100% true Plug and Play Keyboard, no huss and fuss about driver, hence Zowie don’t even bother putting in CD-Disk driver and User-manual booklet. Installation was simple, just plug and play. “Cucuk dan Main” in Malay.

First impression of the keyboard was it feels solid and heavy, therefore it will stay put even in the roughest and toughest gaming condition, which reminds me of a certain movie “Wanted” where the protagonist whack his cheating friend with a keyboard, if he does it with Celeritas, his friend will definitely suffer a skull rupture. About the outlook, at first glance, It looks just like an ordinary keyboard with a standard 104-key layout but with a few surplus like Lighted Zowie logo, a few lighted functions key as well as multimedia functions key, nothing that fancy.

Let’s get down to business, the key-press feels smooth and light while typing on the Keyboard was not all that pleasant due to the spacebar key is edgy and is tilted inwards to the front which makes typing feel uncomfortable. Anyhow, this issue can be address with a simple palm rest. I still remember the old days when I was playing Counter Strike and I accidentally press the windows key while in the heat of gun fight (you know the drill)... Therefore, the ability to change the "Windows"-key to "Ctrl"-key function was a plus from me. As for the other functions I find it more like a value added (Good to have) functions as I certainly not planning to play like those Korean in Starcraft of Starcraft 2 which created APM to “RAPE” a keyboard.

After longs hour of playing Battlefield 3 on Celeritas, I can say that this keyboard does perform well and I feel comfortable in my long hour of game time. Here’s my verdict:-

Pros:-
1)	Strong sturdy design.
2)	Smooth and light key-press.
3)	Convert Windows key to Ctrl key.
4)	Comfortable for long hour gaming.
Cons:-
1)	Hefty price tag!!! (RM500)
2)	Looks ordinary which can’t justified the price.
3)	Edgy Spacebar key, not suitable for typing.

If you are simply looking for a keyboard for typing, this is definitely not your cup of tea or you are looking for a sophisticated and fancy outlook keyboard then Zowie Celeritas is definitely not for you, you better off getting Roccat or Razer. I will give Celeritas 8/10, It’s a premium gaming keyboard and I would say a true gaming keyboard.
