Video editing, quick renders

I do motorsports video coverage & currently my 4yr old Acer i5 gets the job done but it takes quite sometime to render short FHD clips in premiere pro. Laptop solution is used to do onsite editing, other heavy editing is done at home on PC. I really think its time to get a replacement, been eyeing on some i7 GTX1050ti / GTX1060 solutions under 5k mark. Need one with medium to high color accuracy. Bulkiness is not an issue. Minimum 2x USB 3.0 ports need for media transfer, TB3 a bonus for future lah.

1. Dell G7 15 - with TB3?
2. Legion Y530 - portablility
3. Helios 300 - only one USB 3.0 port

I appreciate any editors that are using any of the above to give some feedback or even recommend me one..

Will be doing mobile livestreaming with my video equipment, facebook requires flash enabled device for accessing livestream panel. Hate to lug around my laptop, since IOS & androids have no native flash support, i would like to find a windows device suited to my need.. Read about Wise Pad W7 just now but there is near to nothing on details other than a lazada page.. Sigh

Again, the HTPC or HD Mediaplayer Question

Im quite confused and need some pointers from mp users. Sorry if this seem to be an age old question, i need some comments and suggestions..

I collect movies and tv series, most of them are sd and 720p a few are 1080p. Im also a indie music video producer, most of my raw files are from a canon eos 7d / 5d 1080p or 720p (MOV h.264). my raw shots and final work is fed from my acer laptop (hdmi) to a viewsonic 24" lcd monitor.

my other job believe it or not, is farming of broiler chickens, so half of my month is spent on site with an old school 21" crt tv.

i've been contemplating between HTPCs and HD Media players.
i like mede8er because of the front panel buttons and int hdd.
i like asus hr3 because of the cf reader built in (eos cameras use cf cards).
wdtv2 looks lovely but almost 20% of my library is rmvb files.
i also love XBMC front end and currently all my movies are managed by ember manager and played on my lappie fed to the 24" lcd.

at home, when i want to watch a movie, i just hook up my lappie to the 24" lcd, will be getting a full hd 32" lcd soon. problem is when i'm at the farm i end up watching my movies on my puny 14" lappie screen.

my library is complete with fanarts and poster jpegs, reading realtek players specs crushes my dream knowing all those jpegs are useless.

to cut it short..

i am looking for a solution that:
1) is light and portable
2) can play all known formats, mkv, mov, rmvb
3) displays fanart / poster / movie info from nfo files
4) remote controllable navigation, power on/off
5) future proof as possible

our yangxi brings in the hdpro (1073dd) player for a cheap RM400 including a wireless n dongle whereas a mede8er on ac ryan pohd will set me back to rm550 - 600. wdtv live costs around rm450+ and the sleek hdx bd1 is around rm 1099.

to build an itx based htpc (nettop size) would cost me around rm 1200 - 1500. i'm quite ready to take that plunge but having to physically switch on the power button the htpc and wait for the long OS loading times is not that fun. most itx motherboards also don't provide analog connections (composite RCA) to connect to old crt tvs

i saw some people using xbmc live with their acer revos. the startup time is not that long, but are there hassles in linux driver support for the onboard hardware? this maybe the wrong forum to ask, but i know there is someone who could show me the light!

thanks!!

Guys..

Need to know if this monitor can pass audio signal from incoming HDMI audio to the 3.5mm audio out. I will be having multiple HDMI devices and having only 1 HDMI cable between makes life a bit easier..

The monitor specs confuse me coz it has both 3.5mm ins & outs.. im afraid the 3.5mm out is solely for 3.5mm input.. help me out yeah?

Thankss!!

[addedon]January 25, 2010, 8:25 am[/addedon]anyone?

for those especially connecting consoles thru hdmi.. can the monitor's audio out transmit hdmi audio to external speakers?

[addedon]January 26, 2010, 5:36 pm[/addedon]self answer:

I went to viewnet 3rd floor today and tested out myself... I discovered that the 3.5mm AUDIO OUT DOES transmits HDMI audio.. it will automatically mute internal speakers (Goooood!!).. Volume can still be control by monitor tho...

Myth Busted!! (For me.. I am one happy guy today!)

DSLR Videography Thread!

Current Video DSLRs:

Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Canon EOS 500D
Nikon D90
Nikon D5000
Lumix GH1 (non-DSLR)
Olympus EP-1 (non-DSLR)

So lets share what we know hence the purpose of this thread.

I'm running a music studio and have many ideas in music video production. So i got myself a humble EOS 500D with some third party fast lenses. I find the auto exposure benefits fast lenses. So i got a tokina 11-16 f2.8 and a sigma 30 f1.4 for a start. My close photography buddies expands my lens options with tele and fisheyes. Recently, out of the box (Literally!) i shot a live (8 takes) video clip. Its on youtube not much post processing done, cause i wanna learn ho to manipulate WB first..

I'm running Vegas Pro 9 on an ancient Quad 6600. I'm still very new to this but i see lots of potential for great vids..

I'm also looking into Follow Focus & Flycam equipment for an upcoming production. Quite rare here in Bolehland.. But i do see guys with Pana HDVs using a flycam before. Any ideas?

As the title says, i might be going there since Alesis Multimix mixers are so expensive here. But i need to find out the real street price in SG for Alesis Multimix 16 USB 2.0.

From what i know if throw away the box, less chances of kastam tax. Its for personal use, should i travel by air or land?

I appreciate replies from people who frequently buy audio stuff from SG..

Upgrading A Recording Studio PC

Its been ages since i posted here. I'm in the blue of upgrading my current system which is starting to show its ugly side. A fresh XP install can be quick but the mobo is starting to fail after daily abuse and a year without a northbridge cooler (I dont worry much coz right on top i have a thermalright XP120). I am quite happy with this spec and i would like to maintain windows XP sp2 for now.

My current setup:

Intel P4 2.8GHz HT Northwood
Abit IC7 (Basic) w/IEEE1394
2 x 512MB DDR400
1 x 120GB SATA
1 x 80GB SATA
Nvidia 5600Ultra
ESI Maya44 PCI Soundcard
DVD RW

I also have to maintain my ESI Maya 44 PCI soundcard as it is my main audio interface. I also capture DV using firewire for small video projects. Close friend of mine recommend going for XEON x3220 quad. My old system will be used for non critical work / light loads.

What i intend to upgrade to (limit budget rm1.8k only)

Intel quad core proc with large L2 cache
2 x 2GB DDR2 dual channel
Durable mobo with a good chipset
True power PSU + Case
Mid range graphics < RM300

Anyone here can give user experience with XEON quad or C2Q series? I need stability + durability at a reasonable cost. I record 4 tracks of 24bit wave simultaneously. That uses lots of RAM and memory bandwidth IMHO.
