Missing a big chunk of file in my ext. HD

Hi guys.I know it's weird but I like to tell you my trouble with my Ext. 1tb HD.
Just now I notice a large file is missing from my harddrive.The original capacity is 930GB and the unfilled space is 394GB.How I know this?I did a right click on my HD icon and select properties.
but when I double click my HD icon and explore the icon.The file in it is less than 2GB.
isn't it mind boogling?I don't remember ever hidden my file.
What do I do now?
