I'm not sure where to post this but appreciate if you guys can tell me will this board work with this sort of capacitor leak?

I've removed the bad capacitor but realised the leakage was quite bad -- see circled area in pic. I would not want to waste my time if this fubar already.

Leak was from spot marked X.

2. Black insulation tape

I haven't tried:
1. Heat shrinks because not sure if it'll stick if I cut the shrinks. Not de-cabling my headphone to do this.
2. Buy new headphones

Home theatre set up via PC

Hi,

I'll be getting a set of hand-me-down home theater set from the 1990s soon and I'm trying to get an idea of how it would work with my pc. I'm currently watching movies off my LCD TV via HDMI. I'm completely green to these stuff so please bear with me.

I'm hoping to connect my TV output to the decoder. TV has two audio outputs - 1. Optical/toslink and 2. Monitor out (composite - red/white). The decoder is from the 1990s and I think it's a entry level Mordaunt-Short. From there outputs are centre speaker, surround speakers and two front speakers via a stereo amp.

My questions are:

1. Which is the better option to send signal to the decoder? - Optical or monitor (not sure if this is really audio out). The TV manual says optical will transmit the same signal that comes from the hdmi cable.

2. Not sure if decoder has a toslink input. If it doesn't, what should i do?

3. How will the sound be affected coming from a 7.1 signal to the decoder? Well, it's quite old and i think it's dolby compliant - the old dolby. Heh

4. If I have a soundcard on my PC, do I have to run a separate cable just for the audio to benefit from it?

As i've said, I'm still new and have not seen the stuffs in detail. Will update this thread when I get them. Looking forward to your replies.

NVIDIA GT540M Problem - artifacts?

Hey guys,

Need your feedback on this. As you can see from the screenshot, there's something wrong with the rendering. I also got the same "effect" when playing game. Well, I only tried Mass Effect 3, which is not that intensive and got that "effect". It did not crash though.

This is a few months old ASUS laptop with Intel HD Graphics 3000 (integrated) and Nvidia GT540M 1gb (standalone).

Solutions tried:

1. Ran the latest driver from nvidia
2. Ran 4-5 older versions drivers.
3. Ran the driver ASUS provided which didnt come with the nvidia app

My questions are:
1. Can someone confirm that it's physx rendering problem?
2. Could it be a hardware problem?
[Edit] 3. Artifacts??
