*Anwar’s Dilemma Surrounded By Enemies?*

Murray Hunter - Nov 30 2022

As an indication of just how Precarious his ‘Unity’ Government is, Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia’s New Prime Minister, is Being Forced By Circumstances to take on as his Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the President of the United Malays National Organization and a man who faces 47 Counts Of Criminal Breach Of Trust, Corrupting and Money Laundering Chargers involving funds allegedly looted from a charity he started. Keeping him out of prison in a newly independent criminal justice system will be a challenge.

The decision to take on Zahid has shocked and dismayed Anwar’s followers, who for years have been waiting for him to take office to head a Reformist Government, But as a longtime political observer told Asia Sentinel, “Anwar needs Zahid’s numbers. Zahid needs their endorsement.”

Anwar’s staunchest and most trustworthy new ally is totally counter intuitive. Zahid will be the one who stands by him, which could be to his detriment. But only Zahid can keep the restive Barisan Components together, both among the MPs and the parties. This will bring great friction between Anwar’s current people in the not-too-distant future.

Anwar must survey a landscape in which his potential enemies are camouflaged against the scenery. His Government is not a Pakatan Harapan one. It is not quite a Unity Government. It’s a Government founded on the best compromise that could have been made at the completion of GE15.

*The Monarchy Saw Anwar As A Moderate Center-Right Figure In Contrast To The Far-Right Ethno Centric Ultra-Nationalist-Islamic Opposition.*

Anwar’s Government was a bet made on steering some form of middle path, which the Royalty and the establishment saw as in the best interests of the nation.

However, he faces challenges that will aim to destabilize him, if not even make him fall from the Government. These can be summarized as follows.

*A New Parliamentarian Opposition*

For the first time in decades, the Parliamentary Opposition will be Malay-Centric, with Muhyiddin Yassin’s Perikatan Nasional, whose Senior Partner is the Rural Islamist Parti Islam Se-Malaysia playing directly to the Malay heartlands, their only constituency.

This is where the attacks painting Jewish, Communist, and Anti-Islamic labels on the New Government are coming from. They won’t go away anytime soon.

With corruption issues and upcoming court cases due against members of the New Government, with Zahid as their poster boy, expect Perikatan Nasional to suddenly become the Anti-Corruption Coalition. This is potentially Anwar’s weak spot, depending on the Composition of His Cabinet, which PN will seek to exploit. Anwar may have to take the back foot over corruption issues among his coalition parties to keep it intact.

The Opposition is supported by a massive social media apparatus. The last weeks of the election campaign saw Hostile Racial Posts on social media and continued attacks on the Ethnic Chinese-Dominated Democratic Action Party. PAS is well-resourced with Trolls, Bots, Cyber-Troopers, and Bloggers who will take the battle to the New Government.

*Taking These Groups Down By Legal Means, Using The Conveniently Passed Anti-Fake New Law Passed By The Previous Government, Could Be Counter Productive, While Leaving Them Intact Could Be Destructive.*

Anwar And His Future Homeless Minister need to be particularly sensitive so as not to create new heroes for the opposition.

*The Civil Service*

Anwar has the Civil Service to contend with. The Civil Service has over decades built up a Very Powerful Malay Agenda. Any reforms that appear to compromise this can be very easily dismembered, as the Civil Service is the primary extension of Government.

In addition, as a Former Home and Prime Minister, Muhyiddin and his PN allies will have strong and Cordial Relationships with key Civil Servants. How much influence is held over the bureaucracy is a big unknown.

To safeguard his Government, Anwar may best purge the civil service of those potentially dangerous officers. They can’t be sacked but they can be Mothballed into Ineffective Positions, out of harm’s way although that dares a rebellion within the civil service.

*Fifth Column In His Government*

It's Public Knowledge that at least 10 Barisan Nasional MPs were strongly against the coalition with Pakatan Harapan. Zahid – and this is where his value lies -- had to use the threat of the Anti-Hopping Laws to keep them in line. Now they are part of the Government. Anwar must be continually aware of these enemies within his own ranks and any potential moves they may make to Destabilise His Government.

Within Anwar’s own coalition are those who fundamentally disapprove of Pakatan Harapan. They were forced into the coalition against their will, and will do almost anything to undermine this Government, if the opportunities arise. With insiders willing to make public any embarrassing information to undermine it, any breaking corruption issues will surely very quickly become public.

While the Former Prime Minister Najib Razak is serving a 12-Year Jail Term for his role in Looting The Sovereigns Fund 1MDB, *There Will Always Be Question Marks About Whether Any Deals Were Done With Zahid.* Embarrassing documents, true or fake, will make light of day over the next year.

*Anwar’s Dilemma*

Not only must Anwar placate his own loyal Pakatan supporters, but he must also satisfy the supporters of deeply disparate if not outright hostile parties within his coalition. *If He Is Going To Even Dream Of There Being A Second Term, The Voters Of The Malay Heartlands Must Be Constructively Engaged As Well.*

Anwar was well aware of this in his First Press Conference, in which he said Malay Rights and Islam Would Be Upheld According To The Constitution. This is going to stifle the development of any new national narratives.

*Islam Hadhari, 1Malaysia, And Keluarga Malaysia All Fell Into The Rubbish Heap Of History Anyway.*

The Essence Of Anwar’s Focus Must Be On Doing - *Become The Quiet Achiever, And Let Others Paint Any New Narratives.* Coming Up With New Ones Paints A Target On His Back.

Anwar’s efforts must be a continuation of entitlement programs, which can be expanded to include other marginalized groups.

*Anwar Himself*

Keeping his Government Together *Will Be The Best Of Anwar’s Own Shrewdness.* Deep Within His Psyche Is A True Malay Machiavellian View Of The World. He Will Weigh Up Every Decision He Makes According To This Construct. *However, His Biggest Weakness Is Trusting The Wrong People.* All Of His Loyal Old Guard ‘Reformasi’ Era Comrades Have Long Been Cast Aside.

This Government should stand over the next couple of years. It Has Tacit Royal Support, which is extremely powerful in Malaysian Politics.

Anwar will have to be aware of the Islamic Institutions within his own Government and make a Good Selection of his next Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Anwar must create satisfaction among all voters. He knows what can and what can't be done. There will be no point trying to bring in reforms that lead to the end of his Government. We saw the danger of ICERD.

*At Best, Anwar Will Create A New Political Space Within Malaysian Politics. At Worst, His Government Will Become Just Another Victim Of Political Treachery.*
Berhati hati dlm kegembiraan..
BAGAIMANA KERAJAAN INI BOLEH DIJATUHKAN

Saya ditanya bagaimana ‘mereka’ boleh jatuhkan Anwar. Mengapa saya terpaksa ingatkan berkali kali mengenainya?

Saya masih ingat apa yg terjadi di Perak 14 tahun dahulu. Oleh kerana keluarga saya dari kalangan UMNO , saya telah mendengar 3 bulan sebelum kerajaan Perak dijatuhkan.

Saya cuba bertemu Ds Nizar tetapi org dikeliling menganggap saya mahu ‘projek’.

Jadi sebab itulah seperti saya katakan semalam kes LCS, pembelian vaksin, salah guna dana rakyat bernilai RM 580 billion mesti disegerakan.

Saya bukan niat utk menakut nakutkan di kala kita dlm kegembiraan. Tapi saya lebih takut jika ia jatuh sekali lagi. Kita baru menangis kegembiraan jgn beberapa bulan lagi kita menangis kerana kesedihan.

Sanggup bekerja hari Ahad utk membincangkan kos sara hidup. Tapi rakyat yg sudah termakan dakyah perkauman ini tidak akn melihat seribu kebaikkan itu….

Sekali lagi saya ingatkan berhati hatilah… mereka tidak pernah diam walaupun sehari.

FB Translation:

Be careful in happiness..
HOW CAN THIS GOVERNMENT FALL

I was asked how 'they' were able to take down Anwar. Why do I have to keep reminding myself of this?

I still remember what happened in Perak 14 years ago. Since my family is from UMNO, I have heard 3 months before the Perak government was toppled.

I tried to meet Ds Nizar but the people around thought I wanted a 'project'. I won't pass on information through a third person but I say this information needs to be four points with him.

I'm very disappointed with the behavior of the people around Nizar at that time. Finally it came true when Nizar became the shortest MB in Perak.

The question is how can this unity government be overthrown?

First they will drop Zahid in 5 months from now which is the last date of UMNO elections. Only by bringing down Zahid is the only way to bring down this Unity government.

Just a prediction, if Zahid fails to defend the presidential seat they will lift Hisham or Ismail as President. Passing by BN official en block will draw support for this mixed government.

Anwar has the advantage as PM. Even Anwar is liked by all races because of his moderate approach to politics. Anwar's advantage is that he is very much liked by the people of Sarawak and Sabah.

Even so it is not enough for the number of seats if GPS, Warisan and Bebas are loyal with Anwar. Don't expect anything from GRS because they are actually a component of PN.

So that's why like I said yesterday the LCS case, vaccine purchase, misuse of the people's funds worth RM 580 billion must be rushed.

I didn't intend to frighten when we were happy. But I'm more afraid if he falls again. We just cried because of happiness, don't cry because of sadness in a few months.

Anwar was just announced as PM stocks and ringgit increased. Congratulations from leaders all over the world. Anwar shows an example of how he is willing to be without salary and does not want the PM office to be renovated to save spending costs.

Willing to work on Sunday to discuss cost of living. But the people who have been eaten by this racism will not see that thousand goodness....

Once again I thought be careful... they never shut up for a day.

Truth or Propaganda?

I dun simply belip what i read

can /ktard from penang comment if this is true or not?

Sos Penang Rojak

One would need courage and humility to recognize the transformation taking place over these past several years in Penang since 2008. Indeed, a visit to Penang is the best way to learn, witness and partake in the beauty that is becoming of the once raped island.

Notice the ample thought given in creating bicycle lanes. Note too how motorists keep to the law even when out of sight of the law keepers.

Notice how the ferry is kept refreshingly clean. And sense the improved work attitudes of its employees – including clean uniforms and engaging charm.

Notice that the rotting stench of uncollected garbage and choking debris along the island’s shores have all gone missing. Improved too is the absence of stench from covered drains. And see how the shops and stall operators appear cleaner and more ‘schooled’ in mannerisms and hygiene.

Most noticeable is the re-appearance of retired senior citizens back on the circuit of being gainfully employed. From hotels to restaurants, you notice more grey hairs and weather beaten brows easily warming you with caring aged eyes and toothless grins.

Noticeable too is the almost near absence of imported legal (together with Malaysia’s paradoxical illegal labour) workers. It appears that now every Penangite has equal opportunity to work.

Chocking, honking traffic has almost vanished. In place, you sense that people are more in less a hurry.

Trishaw riders are miraculously back with a vibrancy in their characteristic all yellow trappings. And what a joy to see these peddlers have nice park benches to rest, chat and even play a round of checkers in between trips.

What seemed impossible not so long ago and for a long time but now so naturally possible is also significant. There is ample space created for taxis to park in an orderly un-obstructive manner while waiting to get customers.

More cheerful Penangites

No wonder the people of Penang now seem more cheerful as they go about their business of the day. Listening to their relaxed and open conversation makes you wonder too ‘how come’? Where did they get this sudden courage to speak their mind so candidly and without fear or cover?

The taxi drivers are making a joke of the hand-out for tyres, saying, “bagi tangan kanan, ambil balik tangan kiri biasa loh.” And the retirees back on the job market are saying, “sekarang senang mah, boleh cari makan loh.”

Food prices are far more cheaper than Kuala Lumpur – never mind the fact that Penang is only four hours driving distance. You can have a decent nasi kandar of choice for below ten ringgit. And serving you is no ‘pendatang haram’ but family and kin of Malaysian citizenry.

It appears that it does makes economic sense to do away with import labour and give citizens a chance to make a living.

Syabas Penangites. And a feather for your able island’s leadership.

Indeed the Pearl of the Orient is back and the people have proven that when you give back to society what rightly belongs to humanity, people take personal responsibility more seriously and they need little prodding with slogans and reprimands through long preaching down.

But you will need courage and humility to witness and acknowledge the glow that is being put back on that island beauty Penang.

KOTOR attempts to discredit BERSIH

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 — Bersih has denied any links to “fake” Bersih stickers which rally the public to overthrow Barisan Nasional (BN) via street protests like in Libya.

Bersih chairman Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan said the coalition to demand free and fair elections was peaceful and would never incite Malaysians to commit unlawful acts against the government.

“We have nothing to do with that. These are very, very mischievous attempts by people to discredit Bersih.

“That is not our intention. It is very naughty of them,” she told reporters outside Bukit Aman police headquarters here.

PAS revealed the existence of stickers bearing the message, “Bersama kita tumbangkan kerajaan sekarang. Buktikan kita mampu seperti Libya” (Let’s overthrow the government now. Show we can do what Libya has done) yesterday.

Party vice president Salahuddin Ayub said PAS had received information that the stickers, printed in Johor, could now be found all over the country.

He added that he would lodge a police report on the matter soon.

Bersih and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) parties are gearing up for the Bersih 2.0 rally this July 9, the second such gathering calling for electoral reform.

The first rally, also organised by Bersih, was held in 2007 and saw some 50,000 people take to the capital’s streets.

The gathering eventually descended into chaos when the police fired tear gas and water cannon at demonstrators.

The event has been partly credited for PR’s record gains in Election 2008, which saw the opposition pact swept to power in five states and win 82 parliamentary seats.

Sos 1 Malaysia

IQ Malaysian Style

A man walked into a very high-tech restaurant in a fancy hotel. He noticed that the Maitre D' was a robot.

The robot said, "Sir, there is a one hour wait. I am programmed to converse with you until a table is ready, if you please."

The robot then asked, "Sir, what is your IQ?"

The man answered, "Oh, about 164."
The robot then proceeded to discuss the theory of relativity, Interstellar space travel, the latest medical breakthroughs, etc.

The man was most impressed. He decided to come back the next day and try a different tack.

The robot again asked, "What is your IQ, sir?"

This time the man answered, "Oh, about 100".

So the robot started discussing F1 racing, and what to expect Chong Wei to do this weekend.

The guy had to try it one more time. So the next day he returned.

Again the robot asked, "What is your IQ?"

This time the man drawled out, " Uh..... about 50."

The robot leaned close and very slowly asked,

"A-r-e

y-o-u

g-o-i-n-g

t-o

v-o-t-e

f-o-r

U-M-N-O

a-g-a-i-n??"

Al Fathiah Ahmad Sarbani

My deepest condolences to En Ahmad Sarbani's family on their tragic loss.

My sources say he was a deeply religious man who prayed five times a day.

It is unbelievable that he would have jumped because as a pious Muslim he knows the consequences of such an action before God.

My theory is that the Malaysian Aggressive Canines Club were baring their teeth selectively.
Ahmad went to deliver a document detailing who the real culprits were.
He was eliminated for his efforts to expose corruption at the highest levels of the Kastam Department.

He is a true Martyr
