Melt Marshmallows

Hi!

I don't know why the marshmallows I was trying to melt turned gooey sometimes.

This is not the first time it turned into a sticky blob. I melted it together with butter over a low fire. It plumped up but failed to melt. It separated and just turned into a sticky blob of plastic!

Any ideas? Thank you.

HOMEMADE SOAP FOR ACNE/ECZEMA

I noticed there are many people with skin condition like acne and eczema. While off-the-counter medication may offer some relief, lots of times it is only temporary. Therefore it is most important to get the right cleanser that does not strip your skin of the natural oils; homemade soap is a mild form of cleansing agent!

I created this batch of soap in my kitchen, enriched with high quality ingredients; natural vegetable oils and natural ingredients WITHOUT any artificial fragrances or colour. I don’t squirt alcohol onto the surfaces so inevitably there are some air bubbles trapped there. They are for my own use so they must please me before I will share them with anyone else! I produce small batches and they are immediately snatched up by family members.

Homemade soap will not lather as well as store bought soap, because it's made with natural ingredients, not synthetic ingredients whose sole purpose is to create a foam or lather. Chemicals can strip our skin of its natural oils, making it prone to infection and irritation. The harsh contents in commercial soaps may lead to rashes, allergic reactions and eczema in worse cases. In fact, medical practitioners highly discourage the use of commercial soaps as they can worsen acne/eczema symptoms. Homemade soap is gentler; because of this many individuals who can't use commercial soap, can use homemade soaps. Some of the possible benefits of using old-fashioned homemade soap includes the relief of dry itchy skin, sunburn, insect bites, acne, eczema, psoriasis, rashes, etc. It is the enhancers and additives that are responsible for its anti-acne/eczema property.

All of my soaps give a wonderfully mild lather, exuding its natural fragrance, while being gentle on your skin; but this in no way affects its cleaning power. Homemade soap does not strip your skin of the natural oils. It contains Natural Glycerin and is very mild to the skin.

My soap has a small base to aid in drying, not to mention it's very nice to hold; fits into the palm perfectly. Homemade soaps should not be left in standing water. When it is used down to a small sliver you can't easily hold onto, just wet the sliver and wet a new bar, press them together and when you next get in the shower they will be completely fused together.

I am giving those of you who have a skin condition a chance to try out homemade soap. If it suits you then you could go ahead and make your own.

My family members love these two types of soap:-

Milk and Honey Moisturizing Soap

If you love the scent of honey then this is the soap for you.

Enriched with milk, honey, shea butter and tea tree oil, this is very luxurious and gentle on the skin. I even use it on my face to remove my makeup. It has amazing cleaning power yet does not leave my skin dry and taut. I love the fragrance of honey while it lathers up a smooth and silky foam leaving my skin soft and smooth.

Ingredients (Makes 8 bars of 90gm Soap)

2 cups/600 gm melted Melt and Pour base
4 Tablespoons Olive Oil/Coconut Oil (Either One OR Combination of both)
4 Tablespoons Mineral Water }
8 Tablespoons Milk } OR 12 Tablespoons Milk
4 Tablespoons Honey
2 Teaspoons Shea Butter
2 Teaspoons Castor Oil
4 drops Tea Tree Oil (Optional)

Instructions:

Melt soap base in a double boiler.
Combine all ingredients except the M&P soap in a small bowl and mix well while heating in double boiler.
Add mix to melted soap base and stir gently until thoroughly blended.
Pour into molds when cool.

I do not add any coloring to this soap since it is for healing; it will be naturally brown due to the honey.

I replaced the honey with 2 tablespoons oatmeal (grind finely) for my nephews who had acne (or just maintain the honey).

Gradually add oatmeal powder into warm soap mixture while stirring continually. Continue to stir until mixture is fairly cool and thickens a bit, then pour into molds. It must be thick enough to maintain the oatmeal suspended.

Besides being part of your breakfast, oatmeal has managed to enter our skin care regime as well. A homemade oatmeal soap makes a great, gentle exfoliant for dry skin. It’s gentle enough for sensitive skin and can restore the skin’s natural pH levels. It can also reduce inflammation and even ease sunburn pain; it moisturizes dry skin and reduces eczema and skin acne.

The saponins in oats is a pore cleanser and avenanthramides is responsible for the skin-soothing properties of oats. Beta glucan, a polysaccharide or sugar, helps to keep skin hydrated. It also promotes healing in the top layers of the skin. Oats also contain silicon, which has been shown to reduce the size of keloids on the skin.

This is enriched with milk, shea butter and rolled oats. It has a gentle wholesome smell and a nice scrubby quality.

However, oatmeal might not suit people who have adverse reactions to nuts. This is because it might lead to redness of the skin as well as a feeling of persistent stinging.

An absolutely stunning Genuine Vintage Gucci Leather Clutch Purse with unique pleating design. This lavish accessory is a timeless must-have for any avid vintage collector or fashionista. It has a VERY RARE gold and black lacquered emblem with press button closure. The interior is fully lined with matching Black Leather except for the pockets which are lined with fine fabric. Comes complete with a detachable shoulder strap and original Gucci dust bag.

This gorgeous piece was purchased on 25th December 1985 at Gucci Isetan Havelock Singapore after I saw its advert in the papers. It was used only once and had never seen the light of day since then; nevertheless I have to list it as ‘USED’.

It is in pristine condition with slight fading to gold button closure and exterior emblem (not noticeable) with a few very faint scratches on the leather (but I have to point them out). There is no odour, no loose stitch, no scuffs on corners and no signs of wear except for a small tear at the top corners of the interior slip pocket which was caused by me while giving it a layer of leather restorer. Overall condition excellent for its age.

Oh my! Age is catching up on me. It's been quite a chore lately, sometimes wading in the rain going to the post office not to mention the traffic jam and difficulty in finding a parking space (yes, my car is not small ). So, effective from 01-01-2015 I shall go to the post office only ONCE a week, either on Tuesday or Thursday. Yes, I'll continue to share my babies for a little while.

NB: 1 tablespoon healthy live milk kefir grains is enough to brew 0.25L (1 cup) of fresh milk in 12 to 24 hours depending on weather.
Fresh Milk must be consumed within 3 (THREE) days or as stated on the milk carton.

The Kefir grains I'm sharing are from my own grains that have multiplied. They are very happy and healthy. These are not dehydrated kefir grains but fresh and healthy grains. They have been grown in a smoke-free and pet-free environment. I am happy to share my babies with others, but I do ask for a small donation to cover my costs and handling, etc.

Kefir is a unique fermented milk drink, (healthier than yoghurt), used for generations in Asia and revered for its health promoting properties. Kefir can be easily incorporated into our daily diet either through drinks or food. Real kefir can be produced only by traditional methods at home and only from original grains. These original grains, slightly yellowish "cauliflower" like are over 5000-year old bacterial culture originating either from the Caucasian Mountains or monasteries in Tibet.

These real kefir grains are complex symbiotic colony containing more than 35 probiotic bacteria proven highly beneficial to humans. The organisms present in kefir, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum, have received the most attention by health scientists. These organisms appear to have several effects including: better lactose digestion, control of pathogenic or otherwise undesirable intestinal microorganisms, reduction in blood serum cholesterol, reduction in colon carcinogens, and immune system stimulation to resist infections.

Wherever available in the world, kefir is considered an aid in the therapy of gastrointestinal disorders. It also contains beneficial yeasts, which dominate, control and eliminate destructive pathogenic yeasts in the body. They do so by penetrating the mucosal lining where unhealthy yeast and bacteria reside, forming a virtual SWAT team that housecleans and strengthens the intestines. Hence, the body becomes more efficient in resisting such pathogens as E. coli and intestinal parasites. Evidence of success in such treatment is largely based on centuries of anecdotal observations.

Kefir is very similar to cultured buttermilk, yoghurt or any other fermented milk. Yoghurt contains transient beneficial bacteria that keep the digestive system clean and provide food for the friendly bacteria that reside there. But kefir can actually colonize the intestinal tract, a feat that yoghurt cannot match.

The gross composition and caloric value are very similar to that of milk, except that about one-quarter of the lactose will have been converted to lactic acid. This will be of benefit to lactose-intolerant persons. Furthermore, the bacteria contained in the kefir will provide lactase, the enzyme in short supply in lactose-intolerant individuals.

Homemade kefir is also much healthier than store-bought yoghurt. To quote Heise Health Clinic:-

"You may be as surprised as we were to find that many commercial yogurt producers use pima, an organism which produces slime, to make their yogurt. But why would anyone want to use a slime culture, which has no known health benefits, to make yogurt? The answer is because it’s cheap.

In commercial yogurt production, there is a normal separation process of the yogurt called “watering off.” To avoid this watery separation, the yogurt producers usually add milk solids (from commercial milk) or bean gums to “thicken” their yogurt. But it’s far cheaper to use the slime-producer, pima, to make the yogurt look creamy. In the U.S., this unnatural mixture is allowed to be sold as “yogurt.” No thanks!"

Drug Interactions

Do not use Kefir if you are taking any medications that is known to suppress the immune system. This is due to the fact that Kefir contains live yeast and bacteria. Our bodies' immune systems control bacteria and yeast in our bodies to prevent infection. If you are taking any medication that decreases immune system function (including those with organ transplants), Kefir will increase your chances of getting sick.

List Of Medications

Some medications that may contribute to adverse health effects when combined with Kefir are Zenapax, Deltasone or Orasone and cyclosporin drugs such as Neoral. These are just a few medications, always check with your doctor if you have health issues, before supplementing your diet with Kefir. Kefir should then be introduced into your diet very slowly.
