Laptop USB port malfunction

I was browsing files on my external HDD and explorer froze so I forced it to close by right click>close>end now. After that I got a message saying something like 'delayed write failed' and I could browse the folders in the external drive but the data were all gone. So I unplugged it and plugged in again and then windows couldn't recognize the usb device. I plugged it into another port and I got the same thing. I plugged in my thumbdrive and it couldn't recgonize it as well. But my mouse and my laptop cooler could still work. What should I do?

Mobile Pentium Dual Core Battery Life

I know battery life also depends on the chipset, the graphics etc but let's just look at the CPU in this discussion.

I'd like to ask any of you who are using laptops based on Pentium Dual Core CPUs... how's the battery life like? If compared to the 65nm C2Ds, are the PDCs about the same in terms of power consumption? Or are they evern better, or worse?

I may be considering a budget laptop but I need something more than Atom, so I'm looking at PDC. Hope you can help!
HELP! Major Windows XP Startup Problem

Dear forumers,

The last time I tried to start my computer (a Compaq Presario laptop, bought in September 2005), windows couldn't load and I got a message like "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM". This scares the shiat out of me. First, let's look at the history of my pc problems:

First of all, it was a hardware problem. I noticed unusally loud noise coming out from the laptop after about 2-3 months using it. It was still under warranty (1year) so I sent it to HP's service centre for repair. They replaced a heat sink I think. Noise problem solved.

Then, after about 1 year (warranty expired) since I bought the laptop, I started to encounter: i) frequent BSODs; ii) sudden blur/double-triple vision kind of effect on my display. I updated all my drivers but the problems still went on. I sent the minidump files to a friend who has the assessment tools and he said that the different files indicated different problems, and advised me to check on the RAM. I ran memtest86 and it detected several errors but it was like running forever so I quit the process prematurely, and removed a piece of my RAM (a 256MB module, the other is a 512MB one). I also reinstalled windows and formatted the hard disk. I can remember a BSOD appeared during my reinstallation of windows as well! Wicked.

After removing that 256MB piece of RAM and reinstalling windows, the system seemed to run well. I did encounter BSODs like about 2 times right after I reinstalled and formatted, but after that everything went on fine. After a while, I borrowed a 256MB RAM from a friend (assuming that my old 256 module was damaged) and used it alongside the 512. Cause I thought that 512 itself wasn't enough as the graphics used system memory.

And now, after about 7/8 months (can't quite remember) since i reinstalled windows, the BSODs appeared again, very frequently (at least once a day). So did the screen blurouts (very frequently too).

Just moments ago. When I turned the computer, windows couldn't start and I got that error message. That was the first time such an error occured (after my encounter with similar problems over and over again).

So I'm asking all you experts out there: What should I do now? And what is the problem with the pc? I can provide the minidump files if you're willing to diagnose it (if I could get windows to start again)

I hope I can find an answer to all these shiat i'm facing, thanks.
