Selangor sultan calls for Malays & Muslim unity

PETALING JAYA: Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has called on Malays and Muslims in the country to remain united, while stressing that such unity should not be interpreted as hostility towards non-Malays.
In his Hari Raya Aidiladha message, the ruler urged Malays and Muslims – from political leaders to ordinary citizens – to close ranks and avoid internal divisions.

The ruler also expressed concern over the growing number of disputes and disagreements among politicians, warning that such developments could create unease among the people.

He said history has shown that divisions among the Malays created opportunities for other parties to weaken the position and influence of the community in their own homeland.

“If we continue to be divided and quarrel among ourselves, we ourselves will become weaker and suffer the consequences,” he said.

However, Sultan Sharafuddin also stressed that calls for Malay unity should not be misinterpreted as hostility towards other communities.

The Selangor ruler urged Malaysians of all races and religions to respect each other’s sensitivities and live together in peace.

Citing the history of the Ottoman Empire, he said Islamic civilisation once flourished when people of different ethnic backgrounds coexisted harmoniously under Islamic rule.

“I wish to stress that Malay unity should not be misconstrued as an effort to be hostile towards other races in this country,” he said.

“On the contrary, the strength of a united community will make the country more peaceful, stable, and foster mutual respect among its people.”

Sultan Sharafuddin said the spirit of Aidiladha reflected the values of sacrifice, sincerity, and unity in the Muslim community, as demonstrated by the millions of pilgrims gathering in Mecca regardless of race, rank, or social standing.

Sultan Sharafuddin and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor also expressed hope that Malaysian haj pilgrims would perform their religious obligations in Mecca smoothly, enjoy good health, and return home safely.

PETALING JAYA: The Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, wants PKR vice-president Aminuddin Harun to stay on as menteri besar until the issue of his majority support in the state assembly is “clarified”.
Aminuddin said this was conveyed by Tuanku Muhriz during an audience granted to him earlier today.

At a press conference in Seremban, he said the state government will continue functioning as usual.

Aminuddin added that Umno assemblymen would no longer be a part of the state executive council having retracted support for him.

Earlier today, Negeri Sembilan Umno retracted its support for Aminuddin, declaring that all its 14 assemblymen had lost confidence in him.

The state chapter’s chairman, Jalaluddin Alias, said the decision to retract support for Aminuddin was linked to the ongoing crisis involving four chieftains seeking to remove Tuanku Muhriz from his position.

Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Barisan Nasional (BN) di Negeri Sembilan dilaporkan menyatakan sokongan terhadap kepimpinan Menteri Besar, Aminuddin Harun. Namun begitu, sokongan ini tidak melibatkan penarikan sokongan terhadap Kerajaan Perpaduan BN–PH di peringkat Negeri. Perkara ini menunjukkan bahawa sokongan terhadap kepimpinan negeri tidak semestinya membawa kepada perubahan penjajaran politik di peringkat nasional.

Aminuddin sendiri telah beberapa kali secara terbuka menyatakan pendiriannya yang selari dengan Rafizi Ramli, sekali gus mengukuhkan persepsi mengenai kedudukannya dalam struktur dan dinamik dalaman Pakatan Harapan.

Dalam Pakatan Harapan, pilihan tokoh Melayu/Muslim lelaki yang dilihat berpotensi sebagai Menteri Besar adalah terhad. Pada masa ini, Aminuddin dianggap sebagai figura utama. Seorang lagi wakil PH ialah ADUN Klawang, yang memenangi kerusi tersebut di bawah tiket AMANAH, namun secara umum tidak dilihat sebagai calon yang kuat atau dominan untuk jawatan Menteri Besar.

Sehubungan itu, perhatian mula tertumpu kepada wakil Barisan Nasional sebagai pilihan alternatif sekiranya berlaku peralihan kepimpinan. Salah satu nama yang sering disebut ialah Datuk Jalal, yang oleh sesetengah pihak dilihat sebagai calon berpotensi untuk jawatan Menteri Besar Negeri Sembilan pada masa hadapan.
