Please share any blogs that you're running or you might know here.
From PR agency to in-house PR

Currently I'm attached to a PR agency that provides PR service/consultation to clients. Seeing the nature of work here is not really to my liking, I've tried to make other applications and had successfully got an interview chance within this few days. Both have similar job scope but the latter one is of in-house PR.

Moving from client servicing line to in-house PR, I'd like to listen to some wise opinions on how to make some good points to impress the potential employer during the interview. If I were to tell the truth, it will sound like I'm criticizing my current company which I don't think I will or should do that.

Can anyone in the field give some comments?

Update:

I've been granted a second interview chance by the company, where tomorrow I'll meet their CEO and CFO. Has anyone can share the experience meeting with the CEO and CFO during an interview? what do they expect from the interviewee?

Couldn't get a job because of my boyfriend

I was being called to attend an interview few days ago in a company. Everything went well, the interviewer had verbally agreed to grant me the position which I applied for. At the same day I went through the second interview with the Director. And there began my disaster. The next day, I was told by the company that they are unable to appoint me as their employee because there is a conflict against their company's policies.

The reason why I was unacceptable is mainly due to the job of my boyfriend who works in the same field as me. In other words, his company is a direct competitor of the company.

I didn't mean to disclose my boyfriend's occupation in the first place but the Director made an afford to find it out, without I myself realized that I was being "trapped". Out of putting high expectation towards the job, I was pretty disappointed with the reply they gave me.

Does boyfriend considered as immediate family?? I felt pretty innocent to be turned down by such a ridiculous reason IMHO. What do you say?

RM1.5k basic salary for a fresh graduate

I've been interviewed for the position of Advertising Account Executive in an advertising agency. I'm quite interested in the nature of the job itself, plus it really suits my characters, as well as enables me to fully utilize my knowledge and experiences. The interviewer was quite satisfied with the way I carried myself and the knowledge I have (he told me so). Everything seems good except the pay.

I was being told that they pay a standard basic salary of RM1.5k to a freshie. The probation is 2-3 months and there'll be an increment upon confirmation, subject to how well I can contribute and perform. It will be approximately in rm1.7k - 1.9k. I'm not sure about other remunerations but there will be no any during probation.

Some might said as a freshie without much practical experiences, we shouldn't be too demanding. But on the other hand, the standard pay for an honours degree holder in the market should be at least rm1820, according to LAN (Lembaga Akreditasi Negara). This guildeline was given to avoid us from being exploited or get underpaid.

Despite the increment upon confirmation, the basic pay for the first few months is really de-motivating me. I know this shouldn't be an issue for negotiation, but as an only-daughter in family I really need to bear a great amount of living expenses.

The interviewer were telling me that they desperately need 2 candicates to fit in the positions, and they will get back to me next week if I'm shortlisted.

Should I negotiate with them and fight for my benefits if I'm shortlisted? After all I really like the job.

Updated: I've got a same job as descibed above already, with RM1.8k basic + claims.

Updated: I haven't start working due to certain reason. Pls refer to my new post #143.

Do you mind working in residential area?

Currently I went for an interview in a PR company which is located in a semi-D double storey house. The interior setting is not much different from other companies, but you won't know it's a company from outside because there's not even a single piece of sign board indicating its operations.

There's a big chance for me to get the job becoz they have been calling me up to go for a final meet up.

It's not my ideal working environment, anyway. But does this factor really important?

Do you mind working in residential area?
