Is attending a good school really important?

I got 3As+1B in my a level exam and aim to pursue law degree.

What I intend to do is 2+1 transfer program in Taylors University. My dad wants me to go to UK straight which I am not really interested, partially to save money for my dad.

I am in a big dilemma, does school matter? At the end, you get both certificates from Uk unis and you could be a lawyer as well.

Buy 2nd hand car using cash

I am an outstation Malaysian student in KL and plans to get a car here. Of course I am still a student and cannot afford buying a car. So my parents in Sarawak will pay for me. I am trying to get a second hand Toyota Harrier or Camry which costs around RM30k- RM45k.

If my parents buy the car by paying cash and declare me as the driver, would they got in trouble by the Hasil? My father works as a professional(lawyer) and I assume his money is clean and doesn't skip income tax.

50K budget. Camry or Harrier?

I am an outstation student and decide to get a car in KL with budget around RM50k.

I don't like small cars or national cars as I've been get used to drive D-segment cars and SUVs in my hometown.

Therefore, I've narrowed down the choices to the first gen. Toyota Harrier 2.4/3.0 and Toyota Camry 2.4 （xv30）. I don't mind big engine capacity as I could register the car in my hometown which gives me a cheaper road tax. Harrier is definitely older than the Camry , but I've driven it and it has virtually the same comfort, performance and etc with Camry.

I was recommended by my friend too to get the Toyota Camry XV20 which is selling at around Rm20k and keep the extra money for maintenance. But that falls at my third choice, unless getting the Harrier or Camry XV30 is beyond my budget.

Between these three cars, which should I pick? The main concern for me is their maintenance. How much money should I prepare in advance for the maintenance? Toyota's maintenance should be low, but be mind they are old cars, I am not sure if they have a lot problems as time passes.

Thank you.

Bad landlord intent to con my deposit

I had rented a room in Bandar Sunway. I had an agreement with the landlord and the landlord owns a company which seems to be very reliable. My contract had ended since starting of January. But until now, I haven't gotten my deposit even with 10+ emails I had sent to him. From the agreement, it do have some clauses which the deposit will be deducted (eg, air-cond service, painting fee,...). But the landlord failed to do the above (servicing the air-cond, repaint the room, etc). He claimed I had not settled the utility bills which I did. For the whole RM1600 deposit, I don't understand how he is trying to con up.

Please advise me what to do in terms of legal opinion. The bad thing is I am only a student, cannot afford a lawyer...

Trespassing my land?

My neighbour is a metal recycling factory owner, recently he had piled up tons of metal crude beside my own land.

Everytime I need to get into my own land, I have to pass through those high metal crude which height about 1 storey high. It is absolutely dangerous especially when the wind blows, they may fall down and might kill somebody if someone is down there.

The land that he piled his metal crude belongs to the town council, therefore it is a public land.

In this situation, the only party that is getting disadvantage from this matter is me because there is only me and my family living in the corner. Besides reporting this to the police, what can I do? Is there any law that my neighbour is violating?

Asking UMW to change a new car

Last year my father bought a Camry 2.5 even though I tried my best introducing him other cars like Mazda 6, Nissan Teana (because of lacking of VSC in the Camry). He received the car this year's March and had locked 2000+ mileage by now.

Till yesterday I came across with a post saying a company changed their 2 Camry for facelift model which includes VSC and enhanced leather seat without any cost. I wonder if I can appeal to UMW and ask them change a new unit for my father?

Taking out VSC is too unjustified and this is the way they treated pioneer buyers like us. The removal of this feature in all variants of the Camry for whatever reasons) shows how alarmingly uneducated Malaysian buyers are about safety features.

oh yea, This car was bought using my MM2H program, it was bought without tax (Rm120k++).

Divorcing! Custody of children?

About divorcing, Please help me! My girlfriend's mother decides to divorce with her husband. But I am not sure about father's side decision. They have married for 20+ years.

In my point of view, my gf's mother is right. The story goes like this: My gf's father is a drunkard, every quarrel starts by him. And he makes promises to be a better husband after each quarrel ends. But he never fulfill his promises. After drinking alcoholic drinks, he will take knife (not the small one) and point at his family member and ask them to admit they are wrong. LOL. And the list goes on...

With this, my gf and her mother had lodged a police report with pictures. And they are preparing steps to getting divorce.

But what they concern are, the mother doesn't work nor having a stable income. But all of her children want to follow her, not the father. There are 4 children, two are currently working. So who hold the higher chances of getting fostering right?

Toyota Vellfire selling for RM30K ?

Since I am looking for a car with budget around RM50K, my friend introduced me a recon 2009 Toyota Vellfire with the selling price of only RM30k. But the car was without green card. I don't know what a "green card" is but I know there must be problems with the car. So, I rejected my friend.

Soon, my friend asked me why not getting a "kereta potong". He said a car with normal price of RM300k could become Rm150K with that. He explained one person could only get one "kereta potong" in a lifetime but you can upgrade the car under the same model. I didn't ask much as I am not much interested.

So what is a 'green card" and "kereta potong"? Is it safe? Anyone heard this before?

Used Rav4. Good buy?

I am finding a cheap used car and I am looking good at Toyota Rav4 2.0 (second generation). Currently the price goes between RM38k to RM55k. I spotted one Rav4 which was made in 2002 with mileage about 120k km and costs about RM40k.

The car still looks good and should need to wait some period for the design to be outdated, I think. Since it is Toyota, reliability should not be a major concern too. The engine is 1AZ-FE...which is the same series as Camry. I own a Toyota Wish which is made in 2003 and had never faced major problem too.

Please give me opinions.

The car does not look bad at all.

Cannot type Chinese!

I accidentally removed the Chinese language from the install service. I went adding it back from the input language. Surprisingly, there is no Chinese language in the list! But, I still can use the Chinese typing software! Just that, the Chinese fonts shown were all in square.

So, I pressed "Install files for East Asian languages" hoping to install back the Chinese input language. During the installation, the system asked me to insert a CD which contains the files to be installed. Unfortunately, I have lost all the CDs. I went checking through googles, no suitable answers could be found.

Please help out! I need to type Chinese for my company's book publication.
