[Review] Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut Thermal Compound

Thermal Grizzly is a rather new name in the thermal paste market but it didn't take long for the company to step into the spotlight as both its Kyronaut and Hydronaut thermal paste quickly took the crowd by storm and with all the positive feedbacks and reviews that are flooding in, Thermal Grizzly is now the new king in the thermal paste market.

We ourselves has been curious of the Kyronaut since our visit to the HWBot World Tour 2016 and we were able to secured a Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut 5.5g syringe from Thermal Grizzly Malaysia to finally experience the much endorsed thermal paste ourselves here at Tech Critter's lab.

Packaging

The packaging is rather simple and not as attractive as most of the renown thermal compound that comes in a hard plastic or fancy box, but we find this a more preferred packaging as it's way much easier to unbox when you're in a hurry. Thermal Grizzly offers both of its Kyronaut and Hydronaut in the same type of packaging, except for the label stickers used to differentiate both of the company's thermal compound.

Inside the packaging, you'll find a quick start guide, Thermal Grizzly sticker, a rubber TIM applicator which is to be attached to the syringe and the syringe containing the Kyronaut thermal compound.

Thermal Performance Test
We've conducted the test with an Intel Core i7 4790K running at 4.6GHz using a Raijintek Triton 240 liquid cooler and the grain of rice application method. We've conducted a set of burn-in test to see how well will each of the thermal compound used performs. As curing time is always required for most of the thermal compound, so we divided the burn-in test into few sets and each set of test is to run for days in order to monitor the supposed curing time. Temperature reading is then recorded and presented in the graph as below:

As we ramp up the heat with prime95 for maximum heat output, we can observe temperature spiked up to the range of 76°C ~78°C during the first set of the test. Lower temperature reading can be observed after a few days across all the thermal compound used in the test, displaying different curing time of its own.

The Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut performs a whole lot better than we've expected, beating some of the market-leading thermal compound with the least curing time and best thermal performance displayed.

Verdict
With such excellence displayed throughout the test, we have no reason to doubt the Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut as one of the most popular thermal compound used by PC enthusiasts and overclockers around the globe.

If you find that RM69 for the 5.5g syringe might be an overly expensive amount of money to pay for a thermal compound, here's the deal, it beats pretty much all of the popular high-performance thermal compound available and you can opt for the RM29 1g syringe, which is more than enough for few times of generous amount of pea-size application.

Fancy RGB lightings and endless customization with custom keycaps started as a trend that only the mechanical keyboard users get to enjoy. With the expiry of Cherry MX switch patent (US 4467160A), more and more users get to enjoy cheaper mechanical keyboard alternatives with imitation switches such as Kailh, Gateron, Outemu, etc has sprung up like mushrooms after the rain but not all these lower cost alternative are able to deliver a smooth transition on its LED lighting.

We have the MasterKeys Lite L here at Tech Critter's lab today, Cooler Master's latest keyboard and mouse combo in the MasterKeys lineup. The Keyboard

At first glance, we can see that the MasterKeys Lite L keyboard are kept simple and clean to maintain that minimalism wow factor throughout the MasterKeys lineup - no more exaggerated design for good!

The cable used rather soft compared to all previous MasterKeys keyboard we've come across and the USB connector isn't the gold plated ones that we usually see on a gaming keyboard. However, it's good to see that Cooler Master decided to attach a ferrite core to the cable to eliminate any potential noise and interference that could affect your overall experience with the keyboard.

The favorable ergonomic curve that's been a standard for most gaming keyboard nowadays.

Unlike the edgy graphics we used to have in the early days, games nowadays has evolved to a state where most object you've seen in-game is realistically portrayed according to the actual thing in the real world. As result, the size of the game folder expanded tremendously to a point where each game folder could take up to 30GB or even more. Instead of getting more and more 1.0TB / 2.0TB hard drives for your system, investing in a high capacity hard drive of 4.0TB or more will be a much wiser choice.

The WD Black 6.0TB hard drive arrived at Tech Critter lab just recently, million thanks to Western Digital and ROOTS Asia Pacific for sending over the WD Black 6.0TB for today's review. Among the hard drives lineup that Western Digital has, the WD Black are the hard drive that is specifically designed for users who demands for more performance. While it comes with a jaw dropping price of $349.99 (approximately RM1480), let's put the price aside for now and find out what kind of performance can we expect from the WD Black 6.0TB.

Overview

WD Black drives can be easily distinguished by its black colored label. The size of the WD Black 6.0TB doesn't seems to be much of a difference to any of the lower capacity WD drives we've seen.

The PCB at the back of the WD Black 6.0TB does looks a lot bigger than other drives we've seen in the recent years.

Synthetic Benchmark

ATTO Disk Benchmark
The most frequently used benchmarking utility by many manufacturers for performance specification. As ATTO Disk Benchmark uses compressible data rather than compressible data, it results in higher benchmark scores. We've ran the benchmark with transfer size ranged from 0.5KB to 8192KB and total length of the test to be 256MB.

CrystalDiskMark
Developed by a Japanese coder that goes by the nickname Hiyohiyo, CrystalDiskMark is one of the most frequent used Benchmark utility to measure the read and write performance of the storage drive. There's 2 option for the test data used, compressible (0 fill) and incompressible (1 fill).

Anvil's Storage Utilities
By far the most complete SSD Benchmark utility available. The Anvil's Storage Utilities not only comes with the standard SSD Benchmark function, it also includes other functions such as endurance testing and threaded I/O read, write and mixed tests and option to configure the compressibility of the test data.

Real World Performance
We've ran several test involving launching some of the very recent game titles, various commonly used software to simulate the real world scenario using the WD Black 6.0TB and one of the most commonly used WD Blue 1.0TB among most users.

Verdict
It's no doubt that the WD Black 6.0TB's 240MB/s read and 220MB/s write speed is nothing closer to a blazing fast SSD with 500+MB/s read and write speed. Still, it does makes a lot of difference when it is compared against the conventional WD blue drive, especially for the 5GB file transfer and launching Witcher III: The Wild Hunt test we have conducted.

While its not the drive that everyone would go for, the WD Black 6.0TB would benefit users who seeks for a storage device that falls in the sweet spot between the consideration of capacity, overall performance and price - it's a 6.0TB hard drive, cost just about the same as a 1.0TB SSD and it performs faster than the conventional WD Blue 1.0TB drive.

Playing games on a high end gaming PC is indeed a pleasurable experience, but for those who travels a lot and don't have much time to sit in front of a PC to play games would prefer to go for a gaming notebook to satisfy their gaming needs. That's when a gaming notebook comes to play. While manufacturers boasts on how their gaming notebook is specially tailored solely for gaming purposes, many failed to live up to that title.

Today we'll be examining a gaming notebook from MSI, special thanks to MSI Malaysia in provision of their GT72 2PC Dominator Pro Gaming Notebook. A bulky one it is but we'll ignore its bulkiness for now and examine closely on what kind of performance and feature - will it be a worthy gaming notebook or will it be 'just another expensive notebook'?

Overview

Our first impression of the GT72? Looks just like most high-end gaming notebooks out there - colorful LED, unusual shape, keyboard with a numpad, etc.

Unlike most notebook design with 120° limitation on the hinge, the GT72 hinge design that allows you to lay it completely flat at 180°.

Fully backlit chiclet keyboard with RGB LED specially designed by SteelSeries, fancy.

The touch pad effective area is within the fancy looking glowing box. The touch pad buttons gives a rather heavy and solid click which is pretty satisfying in terms of its tactility.

There's a pair of LED at the front of the chassis for that extra bling.

The type of key switches used on the keyboard is the scissor switch which is commonly used on low profile keyboards.
There's RGB LED located at the bottom of each keys and these LED can be customized to your liking with the SteelSeries Engine software.

The system audio is powered by Dynaudio, the Danish sound experts that are dedicated to the goal of authentic sound reproduction since they where founded 1977 in Danish Skanderborg.

There are a series of shortcut buttons located at the most left of the keyboard with the functions as follows:

Having a gigantic CPU cooler is not always a necessary especially on entry-level or mid-ranged system that uses CPU that doesn't produce the amount of heat that is enough to give you a heat stroke. It'll be wiser if one would invest in a more affordable CPU cooler that gives you a decent cooling performance and reduce the damage done to your wallet.

Thanks to be quiet! for today's provision of the Shadow Rock Slim CPU cooler. The Pure Rock retails for $34.90 USD (roughly around RM125.73) from newegg.com for now as there are no local distributor for be quiet! products in Malaysia at the moment. Let's move on with the review shall we?

be quiet! gone with its usual dark themed box with minimalist appearance, a small image of the Pure Rock in the middle with the bottom part displaying the name, theme and some features. be quiet! has this cooler categorized as a premium product as displayed on the silver-strip at the side.

Cost saving design isn't something you'll see on be quiet!'s product, even if it's the lower end variant. The very same premium finishing touch on the Shadow Rock Slim is seen on the Pure Rock as well, the top of the heat sink is engraved with be quiet! logo and metal caps that covers the end of the heat pipes.

From the font, we can see the arrangement of the quad 6mm heatpipes that takes away the heat from the middle of the contact block to the outermost area of the fins.

Jagged edge increases the surface area to maximizes heat dissipation.

At the bottom of the cooler we find a thin layer of pre-applied thermal compound that covers almost the entire base of the cooler. It's still a good approach by be quiet! to save all the hassle for the less experienced users but unnecessary for the veterans who already know the right amount of thermal compound to apply.

[REVIEW] Cooler Master Nepton 240M

The Cooler Master Nepton 280L has won many awards due to its advanced design, special manufacturing process, and outstanding performance. What's left now is to get rid of the exaggerated noise of the JetFlo 140 as we've seen in our Cooler Master Nepton 140XL review. After the long wait, Cooler Master has announced the new and improved Nepton 120XL and 240M with a new exclusive design that provides higher efficiency and lower noise levels compared to the existing Nepton(s).

We have the Cooler Master Nepton 240M arrived in our lab for today's review, courtesy of Cooler Master Malaysia. It's pretty obvious that the Nepton 240M is made to replace the Seidon 240M, but will it stand up to the fierce competition of self-contained liquid coolers?

Aside of the 5 year warranty badge, the packaging of the Nepton 240M emphasizes on cooling performance with an illustration of the actual 240mm radiator and the newly included Silencio FP 120 PWM fan.

And we're now with the main unit of the Nepton 240M, the powerful pump with it's 240mm radiator.

The radiator has the product name printed on it, a rather premium look we'd say.

Unlike the stiff FEP tubing found on CoolIT made self-contained liquid coolers, Cooler Master went for a pair of FEP tubes with larger diameter that is much easier to bend but kink-free.

The sealed cap, it is possible to replace the coolant but it is not advised to do so.

Unboxing

The Gigabyte AIRE M93 ICE comes in an attractive retail package that greatly resembles the packaging of a gaming mouse. What truly caught our attention is not the fancy front image of the packaging itself, but rather the tagline "Anywhere Wireless Mouse" at the bottom.

Features of the AIRE M93 ICE is highlighted at the back of the packaging explaining the tagline "Anywhere Wireless Mouse" can be found here as well - which claims that the Gigabyte ICE Technology will enable you to use the AIRE M93 ICE on various surfaces such as glass, wood, leather, smooth stone and cloth.

Upon flipping over the cover, we find more description on the technology used (ICE laser tracking technology), ergonomic design and the AIRE M93 ICE itself.

Right out of the box, you'll find a rechargeable AA battery, wireless USB receiver, a USB to Micro USB cable and the Gigabyte AIRE M93 ICE.

The AIRE M93 ICE

The top surface of the AIRE M93 ICE has a stylish matte finish appearance which looks promising at first glance but we'll have to go further to see if it works as good as it looks.

The blue lightning lines and the curves sculpted for right handed users is clearly seen from the back of the AIRE M93 ICE.

While resting your thumb on the sculpted curve, you'll find 2 programmable side buttons at the left side of the AIRE M93 ICE which can be assigned for different purposes other than the default previous page and next page function using the Gigabyte mouse utility.

The AIRE M93 ICE looks pretty awesome from the front as well.
