"Mau lawan kami, Bersatu? SILA BLAH DARI PN" - PAS

PETALING JAYA: Bersatu must exit Perikatan Nasional (PN) if it intends to contest against PAS in the upcoming state polls, says PAS vice-president Amar Abdullah.
He said Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin’s statement on the matter last night was “odd”.

“If they really want to go against us, they cannot remain in PN. Bersatu must exit,” Berita Harian reported him as saying in Kota Bharu today.

Last night, Muhyiddin said Bersatu was prepared to fight PAS “on all fronts” following PAS’s decision to cut ties with Bersatu.

He also said Bersatu would contest under the PN banner in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan polls, as the party had helped found the coalition.

He said earlier that Bersatu would remain in PN, citing the coalition’s “strong brand”.

However, Amar said Muhyiddin’s plan for Bersatu to use the PN logo in the polls was premature and hasty.

“He thinks it is easy to use the logo, but there are rules. The letter (authorising the logo’s use) must be signed by the PN chairman, not the party president.

“Bersatu’s intention to contest under the PN banner should have been discussed within the coalition. I think Muhyiddin’s statement was hasty because this is a technical matter that requires discussion,” he said.

Amar said PAS would hold a meeting to discuss several other technical issues as well, including the status of Bersatu excos in PN-held states and PAS’s relations with other parties in PN.

Muhyiddin earlier claimed that PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar had yet to call for a meeting to discuss the coalition’s preparations for the state elections.

He said PN previously met to discuss preparations for by-elections, but that seat negotiations had become a “free for all” since PAS’s decision to cut ties with Bersatu.

The Johor election will be held on July 11, while the Negeri Sembilan election is scheduled for Aug 1.

NICK PISA IN LOS ANGELES:

There were loud cheers as Iran pulled a goal back through Ramin Rezaeian and even those with pre revolution flags were waving them in delight.

Before the match there had been talk of the Iran coach leading his team off if there was any booing or jeering of the anthem or waving of anti-regime flags but that didn't transpire.

In fact the majority of the crowd appeared to be firmly backing the Iranian team.

J-Kom chief calls Albert & Eric as "Cina Sesat"

PETALING JAYA: Hisyamuddin Ghazali, the new head of the community communications department (J-Kom), has come under fire for allegedly using a racial slur against two government critics, businessman Albert Tei and social media influencer Eric See-To in a social media post.

Hisyamuddin was alleged to have described them as “Cina sesat” (misguided Chinese) in a Facebook post that was later amended. He is also alleged to have described Tei and See-To as “opposition lackeys”, claiming they had continuously attacked Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Tei came into prominence in recent months as an alleged whistleblower over a Sabah mining deal, while See-To, a former Barisan Nasional communications deputy director, was the person behind the Lim Sian See social media account that backed former prime minister Najib Razak.

Hisyamuddin was criticised by Perikatan Nasional information chief Annuar Musa for making remarks that were unnecessarily racially charged.

“The J-Kom director-general must set a good example as a civil servant. He should not insult others based on their race,” said Annuar, a former communications and multimedia minister.

As J-Kom is a government department responsible for explaining government policies, it should not be “acting emotionally on social media”, he said in a Facebook post. “We do not need extreme hatred, especially in the name of race or ethnicity in this country. Islam rejects racism and tribalism”.

See-To also responded in a Facebook post and tagged DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook, asking whether Hisyamuddin’s label also applied to Loke. “This is from your new J-Kom chief. Paid using public funds, rakyat’s money – including from Chinese taxpayers. What do DAP and PKR have to say?” he said.

Iran-USA deal inkambing in next 24 hours?

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose government has mediated between Iran and the US to end their war, said on Saturday a peace deal would “likely” be finalised within 24 hours.

“We are closer to a peace deal than ever before. With finalisation likely expected in the next 24 hours, Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the peace deal immediately after, followed by technical level talks next week,” he said in a post on social media platform X.

After weeks of stalled negotiations on the terms for an initial memorandum of understanding, both Washington and Tehran have signalled in recent days they were nearing an agreement.

Tensions, however, persisted as the US said it downed multiple Iranian drones targeting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz early Saturday.

Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB also quoted foreign minister Abbas Araghchi as saying that until a complete agreement was reached on all issues, “it cannot be said with certainty that an understanding has been achieved with the United States”.

Pakistan has been pushing both nations to come to an agreement after a fragile ceasefire was struck in April and Islamabad hosted talks between the warring sides which ended with no deal to resolve the conflict that erupted in late February with US-Israeli strikes on Iran.

Sharif said in his post on Saturday that he was “confident that this historic peace deal will form a strong foundation for lasting peace”, thanking both Washington and Tehran “for their ongoing commitment”.

IF NOT, HE POTONG GUGU OR RUN NEKKID?

PMX: "Susah tau tendang Rohingya keluar Malaysia"

PETALING JAYA: Efforts to repatriate Rohingya refugees to Myanmar or resettle them in a third country have so far met a dead end, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar said it was a complex humanitarian matter.

“We can talk about sending them back, but to where? We have problems with the Myanmar government, which is obstructing the (repatriation) process,” he told reporters in Sentul after Friday prayers, Bernama reported.

Anwar said he raised two requests in his talks with Myanmar’s leaders, the first being that the aid Malaysia provides to Myanmar must be guaranteed to benefit everyone, which was agreed to.

“Secondly, stop the oppression and crimes against the people in Rakhine State and across Myanmar, whether Muslim or non-Muslim,” he said.

He also reminded Malaysians to uphold humanitarian values and not to take action against the Rohingya people on their own, but to leave matters to the authorities.

However, he said, the Rohingya refugees in Malaysia must comply with local laws or face enforcement action.

He said although Malaysia takes a humanitarian view of matters, the refugees remain subject to the country’s laws, including rules on premises and business operations.

“My advice to Myanmar nationals, particularly the Rohingya, is that they must also comply with our regulations. Their buildings and businesses must adhere to the rules. If they do not, we will have no choice but to take action,” he said.

Anwar said the Cabinet had discussed how to enforce the law on the Rohingya refugees, and that home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail would ensure that all actions taken are consistent with the law.

Separately, Perak police chief Alwi Zainal Abidin also advised the public not to take action against the Rohingya themselves, in response to calls on social media to capture Rohingya people in the state.

He said the public should report all misconduct to the authorities, who would take action based on the law.

Asked to comment on news that the Manjung district has the largest Rohingya settlement in Perak, Alwi said police would discuss the matter with the state government and regularly monitor the refugees, most of whom have United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cards.

PETALING JAYA: PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang will officiate tomorrow’s Reset convention in Tanah Merah, Kelantan, where former Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin and his supporters are expected to announce the movement’s political direction.
Hamzah, the former opposition leader, launched his Reset movement on Feb 14, a day after Bersatu sacked him amid a leadership tussle with party president Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Larut MP has since been linked to plans to take over a new party along with several other sacked Bersatu leaders, including Saifuddin Abdullah (Indera Mahkota), Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (Machang), and Wan Saiful Wan Jan (Tasek Gelugor).

Wan Saiful told Malaysiakini he estimated a turnout of some 10,000 people at the convention at the Kota Harmoni Expo Site.

On Monday, Hadi announced that PAS was ending its political cooperation with Bersatu and would explore forming a new political pact to unite the ummah in preparation for upcoming elections.

The split led to concerns about Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) direction as PAS and Bersatu remain in the opposition coalition alongside Gerakan and the Malaysian Indian People’s Party.

Hadi said yesterday that PAS was obligated to cut ties with Bersatu as the latter had become power-hungry and was acting without regard for the position of Islam or the Malays.

In his Minda Presiden PAS column, Hadi also said that Bersatu’s “immoral” sacking of leaders, including Hamzah, had jeopardised PN’s strength and damaged its dignity.

PETALING JAYA: Selangor PAS Youth suggested that Bersatu leave Perikatan Nasional (PN) if the party is uneasy about its position in the coalition after PAS decided to sever political ties with it on Monday.

Bersatu Supreme Council member Dr Afif Bahardin yesterday said it would be “awkward and embarrassing” for PAS to remain a PN component as it seemed the party no longer trusted Bersatu.

In response, Selangor PAS Youth chief Sukri Omar said PAS was among the founders of PN, and its position within the coalition did not depend on any leader or party.

He said PAS is the largest party within PN in terms of membership, elected assemblymen, organisational strength and grassroots support – and it would be “unreasonable” to question the Islamic party’s place in the coalition.

“Afif’s view does not align with reality. It would be better to ask why Bersatu still wishes to remain in PN if it continues to challenge the coalition’s decisions, leadership, and agreed direction,” he said in a Facebook post.

“If there are elements within Bersatu who no longer respect collective decisions, openly challenge the coalition’s leadership, or place personal interests above the interests of PN, then logically … they are the ones who should reassess their position within the coalition.

“PN cannot be built on the assumption that Bersatu’s political survival is a prerequisite for the coalition’s survival.”

PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar faced criticism from Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz on Tuesday. Tun Faisal said Samsuri appeared constrained and ineffective in managing the coalition’s internal disputes and should be replaced by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.

Tun Faisal claimed that PAS vice-president Samsuri was required to defer major decisions to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and the party’s syura council, which he argued limited his ability to act independently as PN chairman.

He also alleged that the PN Supreme Council had yet to convene a meeting to discuss preparations for the state elections in Johor and Negeri Sembilan or finalise seat allocation talks among the coalition’s component parties.

Tun Faisal also claimed that the heads of PN coalition partners Bersatu, Gerakan and the Malaysian Indian People’s Party did not receive any response after seeking meetings with Samsuri to obtain clarification on Hadi’s recent statements about PAS-Bersatu relations.

His remarks came a day after Hadi announced that his party had decided to cut ties with Bersatu. It also came nearly three weeks after Hadi said PAS was reassessing its ties with Bersatu and might contest GE16 without Muhyiddin’s party.

In a May 22 press conference, Hadi said several issues had strained ties between the parties, including the move to unseat the Perlis menteri besar, alleged interference in appointments involving Kedah and Kelantan, and Bersatu’s opposition to admitting new Malay-Muslim parties into PN.

KUALA PILAH: Tunku Zain Al-’Abidin Tuanku Muhriz has been proclaimed the new Tunku Panglima Besar of Negeri Sembilan, replacing Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar with immediate effect.

The proclamation was made by Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, during an official ceremony at Istana Besar Seri Menanti here today.

The ceremony followed traditional Negeri Sembilan royal customs, beginning with the arrival of Tuanku Muhriz and the Tunku Ampuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud, at Balairong Seri.

They were accompanied by Tunku Besar Seri Menanti, Tunku Ali Redhauddin Tuanku Muhriz.

The Negeri Sembilan anthem was played and the “Orang Empat Istana” then sought royal consent to begin the ceremony. Tunku Zain was then invited to present himself to receive his letter of appointment as Tunku Panglima Besar.

Also present were menteri besar Aminuddin Harun and his wife, members of the state executive council, adat (customary) leaders, and community representatives.

Azizi Ali, keeper of the Negeri Sembilan ruler’s seal, said in a statement that Tuanku Muhriz expressed confidence that Tunku Zain, 44, would continue to play an important role in upholding the sovereignty of the Negeri Sembilan royal institution and safeguarding the interests of the people and the state.

On June 9, Azizi said that a proclamation declaring Tunku Nadzaruddin as the 12th Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan meant that the Tunku Panglima Besar hereditary title had fallen vacant.

Azizi said the proclamation was invalid and not recognised under the state constitution, laws, and customs of Negeri Sembilan.

“By attempting to accept the title, Tunku Nadzaruddin has, by his own actions, relinquished the hereditary title of Tunku Panglima Besar of Negeri Sembilan, which he previously held,” said Azizi.

CD Chua: "You dont vote, prepare for PAS govt"

PETALING JAYA: Former MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek has warned that PAS could come to power “by default” in the next general election (GE 16) if Chinese voters boycott the polls or deliberately spoil their ballots.
He said PAS was unlikely to secure federal power outright if Chinese voters turned out in full force, but voter apathy — particularly in Chinese-majority or marginal constituencies — could shift the seat arithmetic.

“I say PAS can come into power by default,” Chua told FMT in an exclusive interview. “What does ‘by default’ mean? When the Chinese boycott elections or cast spoiled votes.”

Chua said the issue was already being “debated quietly” among Chinese voters, with some Pakatan Harapan leaders insisting that PAS could take Putrajaya if voters do not back the coalition.

Play
He said many Chinese voters were frustrated with PH and DAP, although DAP was still expected to retain its strongholds.

“You know, Chinese are disillusioned with PH (and) DAP, although they will still continue to (vote) for DAP by default,” he said.

Seat arithmetic

Chua said any discussion on PAS’s route to Putrajaya must start with the numbers.

“We have 222 parliamentary seats. In order to control the central government, either you join the others or you must have 113 — that magic number,” he said.

He said PAS was unlikely to make serious inroads into Sabah and Sarawak — which together account for 56 parliamentary seats — because its “religious and sometimes racial rhetoric” puts off many East Malaysian voters.

“So for PAS to penetrate (those seats), to me, is unlikely,” he said.

Chua said Malaysia still has 32 Chinese-majority parliamentary seats, where DAP is expected to remain strong.

“So 56 plus 32 is 88. In other words, PAS starts off with a handicap of 88 seats they are unable to get votes (for).”

That leaves them 134 seats in the 222-seat Dewan Rakyat that they can realistically vie for, he said. To win Putrajaya outright, PAS would need an 84% success rate.

“To me, unlikely — provided the Chinese come out to vote.”

He said voters should also understand that governments in Malaysia are formed based on the number of parliamentary seats won, not popular vote.

‘Low turnout’ risk

Chua said the real danger lay not in PAS suddenly commanding broad national support, but in the prospect of low Chinese voter turnout tipping the balance in mixed and marginal constituencies to its benefit and that of its allies.

“In a Chinese majority seat or even a marginal seat with a significant number of Chinese, (if) the Chinese boycott, and the Malays come out to vote, and they all vote PAS, they will come into power,” he said.

“So PAS can come into power by default.”

He said Chinese voters should not allow their frustration with PH or DAP to turn into abstention, adding that by rejecting all parties as corrupt or ineffective they could end up inadvertently helping PAS.

The Samsuri effect?

Chua also said Perikatan Nasional’s attempt to project Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, popularly known as Dr Sam, as a more acceptable national figure remains untested among non-Muslim voters.

Samsuri replaced Muhyiddin Yassin as PN chairman earlier this year after the former prime minister relinquished the post.

“Dr Sam is an unknown factor.

“He is an unknown man. For somebody like me in politics for so long, I would say I don’t know him. What about the man on the street?”

His remarks come with Malay-party realignment talks resurfacing ahead of the Johor polls, with FMT reporting that an MP had suggested a collaboration between Umno, PAS and Hamzah Zainudin’s new faction.

Although presently centred on Johor, the proposal suggests a wider collaboration of Malay-based parties that could reshape the political landscape at GE16.

Chua said such manoeuvres make the Chinese turnout at elections even more important, as a more coordinated Malay vote, combined with lower Chinese participation in marginal seats, could see PAS in the driver’s seat even without broad national support.

“This is the warning that I have to give,” he said.

"Muafakat Nasional? Apa benda itu?" - Komedi

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has ruled out any revival of the now-defunct Muafakat Nasional (MN) alliance between Umno and PAS.

Asked whether there was any possibility of the alliance making a comeback, Zahid said Umno had no intention of resurrecting MN in any form.

“Muafakat Nasional has been registered as an NGO by someone. Therefore, we have absolutely no intention and no plans to revive MN.

“Whether it is MN 1.0 or 2.0, the matter is final and we have closed the book on it,” he told reporters after attending InvestMalaysia here today.
The MN alliance between Umno and PAS was formalised in 2019 when Pakatan Harapan led the federal government. The pact collapsed after PAS formed Perikatan Nasional with Bersatu the following year.

Speculation over a possible revival of the pact has surfaced periodically, particularly now that PAS has severed political ties with Bersatu.

MORE TO COME

"Either you leave PN, Bersatu... or we will" - PAS

PETALING JAYA: PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has signalled that his party and Bersatu can no longer share the same platform in Perikatan Nasional (PN).
The Islamic party decided to sever ties with Bersatu yesterday, nearly three weeks after the party’s president, Abdul Hadi Awang, accused Bersatu of straining ties.

In a Facebook post, Fadhli said the positions of PAS and Bersatu in PN would be managed in accordance with the coalition’s constitution and through the appropriate channels.

“Following yesterday’s decision, it is clear that PAS and Bersatu can no longer remain under the same umbrella,” he said.

Besides PAS and Bersatu, PN also comprises Gerakan and the Malaysian Indian People’s Party.

Fadhli, the Pasir Mas MP, said PAS did not decide to halt cooperation with Bersatu based merely on sentiment or short-term interests.

“Rather, it was the result of a careful assessment of whether the cooperation was capable of achieving broader objectives, namely the unity of the ummah and the country’s political stability.

“This is not a cause for celebration; it is a bitter pill that must be swallowed for the greater good,” he added.

PAS central committee member Shahidan Kassim yesterday said the Islamic party would remain a component of PN for now despite its decision to end its political alliance with Bersatu.

He said Hadi’s statement when announcing the decision had not touched on PN at all.

Hadi said PAS would instead form a new political pact to face the upcoming state elections and the next general election, with the goal of “uniting the ummah”.

PN, the coalition jointly formed by Bersatu and PAS in 2020, is currently led by the Islamic party’s vice-president, Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.
