Recommendation for laptop

I'm looking to buy a new laptop with a budget of 3k-4k

The main usage would be surfing, word processing and games mostly FPS games like CoD, Portal 2. And I'm a heavy multitasker. I dont close tabs or programs...

I've read about some laptops and these 2 seem to be not bad

HP Pavillion Dv6 6001tx and XPS 15. I've also read about Asus N53SN, but not sure bout the price and availability.

QUOTE

Dell XPS15

2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM processor 2.00 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz
McAfee® Security Center - 15 Months Version
15.6" (39.6cm) HD (1366x768) WLED display with TrueLife™
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (1 x 4GB)
750GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
2GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M graphics with Optimus
JBL 2.1 Speakers + Waves MaxxAudio® enhancement 20W peak audio performance: 2 X 4W + 12W sub-woofer
World's first camera with Hi-Definition Video Streaming with Skype (2.0MP, H.264 Camera)
9-in-1 card reader

QUOTE

DV6 6001tx's specs

Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM
Intel HM65
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 (1 x 4 GB)
750 GB SATA (5400 rpm)
LightScribe SuperMulti DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support
15.6" Diagonal High-Definition LED HP Brightview Display (1366 x 768)
AMD Radeon HD 6770M (1 GB DDR5)
HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone (High Definition low-light)
Beats sound system
TouchPad supporting Multi-Touch gestures and On/Off button
2.63 kg
37.8 x 24.68 x 3.11 cm
120W AC Power Adapter
Dark Umber Metal Finish

These two seems to have comparable specs with the major difference being the NVIDIA GT 540M 2GB for XPS 15 and Radeon HD 6770M 1GB DDR5

Do these 2 graphics card differ much? Which one is better 540M 2GB or 6770M 1GB DDR5?
I've read that 6770M performs better but the memory wasn't specified in the article. How much can I expect to pay for DV6 6001TX?

Which laptop do you guys think is better? Or is there any other suggestions?

What other activities would is suitable?

Last year during her birthday, the first time i asked her out, I asked her to go iceskating... But it was under maintenance that time... So we havent tried it yet till now... What do you guys think about taking her for ice skating for valentines? Or should i save the ice skating plan for her birthday, to give it a more special meaning.. something like an anniversary for our first date at the same place....

The other plan i have in mind is sunway lagoon... lol... would that be too childish?

Then at the end of the day...
What phone would u suggest?

I'm thinking of buying a phone with a budget of RM700 and below...
What phone would you suggest?
I'm don't really phone models around this price. The people around me mostly use 1000+ phones.. So, cant really get to try or get review from them...

I wanna get a phone with unlimited SMS storage capacity.
I know there's still a limitation by the memory... But most phones seem to allocate jz a small space for storing sms.. The inbox can get full even when there's still plenty of free space in the phone memory. My friend says all nokia phones give unlimited SMS capacity. Just like to know, is that true? Coz phone reviews don't usually talk about the SMS capacity... What about other brands like Sony Ericson, Samsung, Motorola etc? And if they don't have this unlimited capacity, is there easy way to transfer the message to computer for storing?

And also please let me know if the phone laggy? I have an E398... But due to the unbearable sluggishness, especially when typing SMS, I changed to a super cheap phone with non-coloured screen... Don't wanna end up having a sluggish phone...

While the budget is RM700. It's still better if can get cheaper ones...

And just wondering.. How much would I need at least for a 3g phone? While it's optional whether the phone is 3g, better if it is =)

Router recommendation?

Hi,
My old 802.11b router jz went kaput. I'm gonna buy a new router. So would like some advice and recommendation from you guys.

The laptops and adaptors i have at home are all having 802.11g adaptors only, so i'm comtemplating if i should buy a 802.11n or just 802.11g... Coz 802.11n is not yet finalised, and furthermore, my laptops supports g only, wouldn't be of any use if i get an 802.11n (is there any? range?)

What is the newest development for n? which one is the newest? draft-n or pre-n? and when approximately would the final come into the market? And which 802.11n routers do you think would probably be able to upgrade to the 802.11n final just by firmware in the future?

Which brand and model of router would u recommend? Linksys wrt54g? and as far as i know, there are various versions of wrt54g like wrt54gs, wrt54gl etc etc...
or belkin? or d-link? so many brands and models nowadays....

and what is the approximate price for g and n? if the price difference is big, i'd probably get a g....

[addedon]January 20, 2008, 12:25 pm[/addedon]around how much does a Linksys WRT54G cost? and it's variation WRT54GL GS etc?

It can tell you the distance of a wireless access point from your location. But sadly the software is for pocketpc.
I'm using Time broadband which is using SDSL technology and I am subscribing to the 384kbps package.

After a while of BT, the internet becomes PARTIALLY not working.
What I mean by partially is that the internet appears to be fine in certain applications but not in some others.

Internet explorer and firefox becomes totally unusable (not slow, but it's cant open any page at all).
Windows live messenger also becomes unusable. Messages cannot be delivered, but still i can see people signing in and out.
But BitComet is fine, googletalk too appears to be normal where i can continue with my chatting without any problem and I can ping web sites in command prompt with normal pings ( not full of loss packets etc )

Exiting bitcomet doesn't stop the problem.
Disabling the network or using the Repair function doesn't solve the problem either.
Even restarting the modem wont help.

The problem can only be resolved by restarting the computer.
Everything juz returns to normal after the computer is restarted.
It's very irritating and problematic because every time after some time, i'll have to restart the computer juz to make internet usable again (note: BT is still working, juz cannot browse any web sites and windows live messenger having all delivery failure)

I am using Vista Home Premium and I don't know whether Vista has anything to do with the problem I'm facing now.

Hoping for people with experience or knowledge on this issue can help =)

Thanks in advance.
Broadband availability in IMU?

I'm going to IMU at the end of this month to study. I'd like to find out about the broadband service available there.

I heard from my future housemate that Streamyx is not available in that area and only Jaring wireless is available. And according to him, the speed is only 20++KB/s as the signal there isn't good. So if possible i'd prefer other broadband that offers better speed.

Anyone knows what other broadband service is available there? Is Jaring wired available or maxis wireless etc?

I think Maxis wireless is available but according to one of my friends, Maxis wireless which uses 3.5G cannot be used at tall buildings and i'm staying at the 21st floor. Is that true?

Your information and help is greatly appreciated.
