SSD shipped with no protection

Hi sifus, as per title I've recently purchased an SSD (Kingston NV3) from a reputable shop in Shopee, little did I know that the seller couldn't care more to give the SSD some extra protection for shipping even though I've reminded them to put extra bubble wrap and put in a card box for protection, they took it as a joke and decided to give me something the opposite: no protection at all. As if they are telling me to STFU , don't tell me what to do. (This kind of mentality still exist?)

Given how reputable the shop is , I gave it a shot. but when I receive the parcel yesterday , I was shocked that the SSD was shipped with little to no protection at all. Now I know that SSDs are prone to bending, god knows what happened during the shipping, it could've been on a heavy object or some sort.

The problem now with myself is , given how much cheaper online prices are vs local prices, I'm having a huge dilemma whether to keep it or not as I'm afraid that the slightest bend to the PCB would cause damage to the SSD, but the shopee return policy is that it's easier to return if it's in unopened state. If you open it and test you will have to show them unboxing video (funny right?) and prove to them that the SSD is not working. Which can take weeks to get back your money.

Another thing is the SSD is at least rm30 cheaper vs local prices per unit, I bought 2 units, that's rm60-70 cheaper than local price, but at a risk of the SSD not working after who knows how long after it was mishandled during the shipping process.

My question is, has anyone purchased SSD online before with little to no protection and the SSD still running fine? Should I bite the bullet and use it and throw few years later? (Lazy to go through RMA process also TBH although it's covered with 3 years warranty by Kingston)

Hi sifus, I have an old laptop that I got from a friend but hasn't been turned on for several years.

It's an Asus A55V with the following specs:

➡Spec:
*Intel Core i5-3210M Processor
*Nvidia GeForce GT630M
*4GB DDR3 RAM
*750GB Seagate Momentus SATA HDD
*15.6” HD LED screen
*DVD-RW Drive

It was working before I upgraded the RAM to 16GB DDR3L which suppose to also work on a DDR3 1.5v slot, and upgraded the HDD to SSD.

It was booting up fine, until the last step of the Windows restoration process. It suddenly shut down and couldn't be turned on again.

I tried opening it up and swapping the CMOS battery but to no avail. Also i tried putting back the RAM and HDD, also blank screen.

But I turn the laptop on , the fans are spinning and there's heat from the exhaust cut out.

I also tried plugging the laptop to a external monitor, also nothing.

Tried swapping with different stick of RAMs also nothing.

Could this be a motherboard or gpu issue?

Laptop with nVidia Optimus

Dear sifus,

My friend recently downgraded his Dell G16 laptop to windows 10 that came with windows 11 pre installed, but somehow the nvidia optimus wouldn't work in windows 10.

What optimus does is "finding the balance between the integrated and dedicated gpu to preserve battery" by switching automatically in between intel hd and the rtx4060 dedicated gpu.

The problem is when the rtx4060 is enabled, and intel hd display manually disabled in device manager; it felt very sluggish, but when i turn the rtx4060 off, and intel hd on, everything was smooth again.

I managed to set the display adapter to default to the rtx4060 only in the nvidia control panel, but now windows settings shows that the rtx4060 is connected to a wired display (Display 2) while intel hd is the internal display (Display 1) with no external monitor or display whatsoever connected.

Anyone with a laptop that came with win11 and downgrade to win10 has similar issues?

Newbie buying cars

Hi sifus, I booked a Myvi H last year right before the SST holiday ends, and it was priced at RM55k without insurance at the time I placed my booking fee , but after months of waiting due to stock shortages, I was then told I will be paying the new price of RM56K without insurance instead of RM55K, but I still get to enjoy to buy the car without SST.

Is it the norm for us to buy the car at the latest price instead of the price we made for the booking? (Not ranting , just want to know the truth.)

Also, the SA didn't consult me how much I want to loan, and my DP is less than 10% of the car price. I trusted her blindly.

PC Shutdown Suddenly and Couldn't Turn Back On

Dear Sifus, I currently don't have anything to test or troubleshoot the PC.

It happened when i left the computer unattended, but there's only me in the house , so no one was touching or using it.

The desktop shut down by itself and it couldn't turn back on again.. when i push the on button again , it flashes for like 1 sec and the fans can see still working / spinning but it just wouldn't start up.

I am using some old parts that was given to me. He was using it for some light mining before.

The specs are

Hi guys, I've been working on an eCommerce website during the MCO, and to my surprise, there weren't any real checkouts on my site though there are over 10K impressions every month. Whereas my shopee store has gained more sales than the eCommerce website.

I truly understand that Shopee has more benefits, but having an individual eCommerce website is also a must due to not relying on single platform.

It makes me kind of want to give up the costly eCommerce website running cost such as hosting and domain renewal, gateway fees etc. and focus solely on Shopee store alone.

Anyone else experiencing the same thing or is it just me? I'm super curious and wonder if I should continue doing my eCommerce website.

Advantages of having own eCommerce website:
No extra fees besides payment transactions fees
Have control over the major UI.
Have control over shipment options
Have control over payment options
Create own affliate program
Care free maintenance, just upload products and sell.
Create own rules

Disadvantages of having own eCommerce website:
High running cost
Less payment options
Need to update plugins and stuff constantly
Taking care of the website
Can be a hassle to upload products
Limited functionality

Should I give up maintaining my eCommerce site and focus selling on shopee / lazada?

LG 60UP7750 vs Samsung AU8000

Hi guys, it's been a while since the last time I bought a TV, with all new technologies and all, bikin me bingung already.

There's so many questions inside my head now as there's no reviews on the LG UP7750, the official website isn't very informative as well, they list out the refresh rate as 50Hz(60Hz), what's that suppose to mean? Native 50Hz?

I'm actually on a tight budget right now, looking for something around RM3000 range.

After a few researches I've decided stretch my budget and go with the AU8000 (+rm749), but the problem is, 65in seems a bit too large for my space, my sofa is about 8ft-9ft away from the wall.

My second choice would be the 60up7750 with a IPS panel. Nice size, at 60in for my space, and well within my budget. (RM3,150)

The AU8000 has a pretty good review on rtings.com, whereas the youtube videos on the internet regarding the up7750 isn't very helpful in helping me making the decision.

I would love to visit the store and check the tv out, but due to the pandemic, I've decided to trust the internet, pay and get it delivered to my place in no time.

Things i like about the 65au8000:
Good reviews on rtings.com
Slim profile is perfect for wall mounting
HDR 10+

Things I like the 60up7750:
My affordable price range
IPS panel

Things i don't like about the 65au8000:
size seems to be too big at 65in
a bit out of my budget right now
va panel
sound

Things i don't like about the up7750:
bulky for today's standards
lower end model compared to the au8000

I'm really not sure if I should stretch my budget and get the AU8000 instead, about RM749 over my budget. I'm getting a slimmer TV, bigger size and future proof for the next 6-10 years, better HDR support.

Hi guys, has anyone faced this issue before? I'm unable to issue the Free SSL for my client's website as there's this Rate Limit error.

My hosting company is suggesting me to change the nameserver to cloudflare? How would that affect my website as a whole? Any other solutions besides changing the nameserver?

Hi sifus, i built a rig for a friend of mine but he's suffering from the symptom mentioned above, whenever his pc auto sleeps, he can't turn it back on, it will shut down itself instead, after a period of time.

Website suddenly removed from google search

Hi guys, I have an eCommerce that is removed from Google search. Anyone experienced this before?

I don't know what went wrong bt i did some on page SEO optimization, and changed the keyword phrase, how much is too much optimization? I read a bit online it says i might get penalized for over optimizing the SEO of the pages on my site, like i did on page optimization with all the pages on my site.

Agent fees

Hi guys, I have unit that is rented out for almost 1 year, the contact is almost ending, but the tenant is leaving before the end of the contract because of job transfer, by right i can forfeit the security deposit right? but the second tenant decided to continue to rent my place. so i can give her back the security deposit since she kind of got me someone to continue to rent the place.

but the thing is, the agent wants to charge me half a month fee for the contract renewal, i asked him if it can be waived since i have been using them for quite some time now, but they replied me back yes i can don't pay the agent fee, but they won't help me to do anything also lah (meaning i'm no longer qualify for the services)

should i handle the tenancy myself from now on? their services is ok if u know the how-tos but for beginners, they kind of just want the money.

RAM Hardware Detected

Hi guys, just a quick question, can I run my PC which has a RAM error? What would happen? Everything seems fine at the moment, I can boot up normally and run programs etc. but when I run the built in windows 10 RAM tester, it shows that my RAM has hardware problems.

PSU causing RAM failure?

Hi sifus, my 9yo PC is starting to die on me, not that it's slow or anything, but recently, windows memory test utilty found out there's a hardware problem in one of the RAM sticks, I ran more tests and pinpointed the faulty one, so I removed it from my system. The system was ok until today.

It happened again today, with the same process, where i get a BSOD out of a sudden, this time while booting windows. I ran another memory test, and found out there's hardware problem in one of my RAM sticks again. I've pinpointed which stick and removed that stick as well, I have 2 more RAM sticks left in my system. 8GB > 4GB

Anyone of you experienced the same thing before? If yes am i eligible for the lifetime warranty claim? i don't have the original receipts with me already. Could it be the PSU that's causing this problem? Because I do have a cap ayam PSU.

Windows Logon Password

Hi guys, I'm trying to recover password for my friend's desktop.

Okay here's the scenario:

My friend told me that he never set any password but it suddenly appeared asking for password.

He never created other User accounts with administrator rights, so there's no option to logon to another administrator account to remove the password etc.

I tried rebooting into safe mode with command prompt but it wouldn't start in command prompt, it just goes back to the logon screen and wouldn't automatically boot into the default admin account.

The only solution I can think of is to format his harddisk but he got very important data inside..

I guess I'll have to try third party password recovery software?

Any other suggestions? By the way forgot to mention it's Windows Vista.

Any other methods?

GT1030 not working in PCIe 16x

Hi guys, recently bought a GT1030 for some casual gaming, but to my surprise the PC couldn't start up if I install it on the PCIe 16x slot, instead it works on the slower PCIe 16x (4x) slot.

All I can think of is that is either I have a faulty PCIe 16x slot or that my PSU (cap ayam brand) only allow it to run at 4x speed?

Anyone encountered the same problem before? I don't have another PC to test out my components, so I need a little help here before splashing out money to get a new PSU or motherboard.

BTW the specs are:
