Recommend me a laptop

Hey all,

My brother is going overseas to further his studies very soon. Kindly recommend me a good laptop (with some good gaming capabilities). Budget is anywhere between RM 2,000 ~ RM 3,000. Would be great if you could point out some good deals whether it's from Lazada or any other sites.

Thanks

Deciding between R9 380, GTX 960 and R9 280

Hello folks, while this sort of question appears every now and then, I'll need some reassurance that I'm not going down the wrong path.

I have an i5 2310 coupled with a solid 750W PSU. I had a HD6850 which died on me a while ago. I was seriously considering between R9 380 and GTX 960, both 4GB, which costs RM 957 and RM 913 respectively, from Lazada. I had myself convinced that the R9 would be a better deal until I walked into a friend's store yesterday. He offered me RM 630 for the R9 280 as clearance deal. That had me drooling.

So I'm in a dilemma. Is R9 380 worth the RM 327 extra? Are the new features worth the extra? How much extra do I get out of R9 380 compared to R9 280? While I understand that it's newer, it is essentially an overclocked R9 285, what would be the reason to justify the RM 327 extra?

You see, my reasoning is this, if that RM 327 only gives me an extra 5 fps, I think that's something I can forgo because I only do casual gaming such as CS:GO, Dota 2 and occasionally, Batman Arkham series and Assassin's Creed series. Of course, I'll fire up GTA 5 once in a while, but I'm willing to sacrifice some details. If there's a really compelling reason to spend the RM 327 extra, I'd be happy to go for it.

Thanks in advance.

GDR2 / Amber bugs

I have come across a very weird issue as of late. When I receive incoming calls from known numbers, instead of showing the caller, it's now showing the caller's number only instead. When I go into call history, I can no longer see their names.

It takes a reboot to resolve the problem. It's happening intermittently, difficult to provide steps to reproduce the problem. Anyone else having similar issue? Put down your phone make and model too.

Hello people,

My mum has been experiencing problems with her Nokia Lumia 710. The phone would sometimes reboot itself or disconnect the call after about 15 minutes on the line.

Is this an isolated issue? Does any other Lumia 710 user have similar experience?

Unifi Custom Router

Dear all,

Few months ago, when I started using Unifi in my office, I followed this guide to establish my Unifi connections (I have 2) using my own load balancing router. It's been fine for 2 months and it started giving me problems this morning.

Checking the log yields no result. Only message I obtained was Received PADT; ISP disconnected. Hence, I started to revert back to using D-Link DI-615 and everything it was successful in establishing a connection to Unifi. Problem is, we need the load balancing and not to mention, the DLink junk always gives problems.

So I'd like to know if anyone out there who can help us out. This is urgent and we desperately require this problem to be resolved, thank you very much.

On my way home via KESAS Highway, I noticed something happening in the opposite lane, past the toll coming from Bukit Jalil at R&R. I saw gangs of motorists, cops and even firefighters surrounding that area. Any updates?

WP7 Bug List

Hello everyone,

I'm in the midst of compiling a list of bugs to be forwarded to MSFT (hope they will accept) for actions to be taken.

Let me start it off:

1. Disappearing Keyboard after Mango. (fixed)
2. Go Settings > date & time > turn off Set Automatically > turn it back on, you will end up in airplane mode.
3. The latest SMS would go to the top of the thread and becomes earliest (fixed)
4. Same for call records, refer to issue 3. (fixed)
5. USSD issue
6. Group Mail issue - grouping of mails are only based on Subject. Different mails with No Subjects will be grouped together. This is clearly wrong as it should be by Subject, Sender and Recipients.
7. Messaging Hub bug. Apparently hard to reproduce, but it exists.

With the latest update, build 8107, some issues have been fixed.
