I had many years ago was the tea ceremony my host arranged. Experience. Memories. Experience. That’s what tourism is all about. That’s what the great campaigns of India, Malaysia and Thailand are offering and what our budding campaign forgot.

I hope Tourism Secretary Bertie Lim isn’t too proud to consider going back to the drawing board. The bureaucrats cannot just talk to each other and unfurl a campaign on us and expect us to like it. They need to consult as widely as possible. I realize this is time consuming and you can not really get everyone happy, but at least the effort must be there.

Consulting widely will at the very least, give them the benefit of Pinoy creativity. Veteran PR consultant Danny Gozo told me that the concept of Malaysia Truly Asia campaign was the brainchild of a Filipina, Julie Lingan, who formerly worked with him at Ace-Saatchi here in Manila. She and a group of Pinoy advertising creative people were tasked by Adrian Zecha of the group that created Amanpulo, to produce a campaign for Malaysia.

The beauty of that campaign is that it made a problem (Malaysia’s racial tensions) into an advantage… Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures in a country that has the best of Asian cultures… visit one country, experience all… truly Asia. The key message here is still EXPERIENCE.

Expect nothing exciting for our tourism industry
if even the locals are bored stiff.

'Pilipinas Kay Ganda' logo lifted from Poland logo?

A check with the official travel website of Poland showed that indeed, their logo has a striking similarity to "Pilipinas Kay Ganda," from the font, the colors, and even the use of a tree (well, granted, that of the Philippines is a coconut tree, while that of Poland is, well, a generic tree).

Blogger Spanky Hizon in his blog "Manila Boy", has put the two logos side by side and called on someone from the Department of Tourism to resign over the alleged plagiarism committed.

In true Pinoy fashion, Hizon called on Pinoys to go the humorous route in this situation.

It goes without saying that promoting the Philippines online would keep Romano and his gang very busy. That’s precisely why, I think, he was chosen for the job because as undersecretary for planning and promotion of the DOT, a key part of his responsibilities is online and social media promotion. This is important given that those who would want to visit the Philippines would naturally check out first whatever material on the country is available online.

Up until recently the address to go to was www.beautifulpilipinas.com (which has now been taken down). But guess what happens when you visit www.beautifulfilipinas.com?

You will be redirected to another website showing Filipinas having sexual intercourse and performing fellatio on men. As they say on Twitter, WTF???

You see, Romano and his gang launched a new promotional campaign for the Philippines worth P100 million pesos. They changed the Philippines’s tagline from “Wow Philippines,” which the previous Arroyo administration used, to “Pilipinas Kay Ganda.” No, I won’t provide translation – you go figure that out.

They also launched a new website called www.beautifulpilipinas.com.

Here’s why I’m convinced that Romano, despite all his supposed tech-savvy credential, is an amateur. (That or he allowed amateurs to develop this campaign.) Because, to be honest, I can’t fathom how they could have violated a cardinal rule in creating websites – never use a domain name that is identical in sound, or have a spelling that is almost similar, with another existing domain name. (Unless you intend to steal traffic from that other website.) The fact that the only difference between beautifulpilipinas.com and the porn site is the first 'P' in “Pilipinas” makes this mistake even more mind-boggling.

Does the DOT want to promote sex tourism in the Philippines, as many have pointed out? Which brings me to the “Pilipinas Kay Ganda” tagline.

This has been the butt of jokes, not to mention outrage, on Facebook and Twitter, and it’s not difficult to see why.

Firstly, it is in Tagalog. If you’re a European, American, Chinese or even Thai who wants to visit the Philipinas, would you be able to remember this tagline, as you would, for example, “Incredible India” or “Malaysia Truly Asia” or even the deceased “Wow Philippines”? If the government is targeting foreign tourists for this new campaign, why on earth would it use Tagalog? And if they say that the target market is domestic -- Why, Filipinos can’t understand English?

Officials have said that they want to promote the national language. That’s cool, but not in a campaign like this. You don’t want foreigners to learn Tagalog – you want them to visit our shores, spend their money here, and #$%@ our women!

That last bit in the preceding paragraph – let’s not kid ourselves. Tourists do come here to #$%@ our women. I supposed that brings in money. But must the government promote it? Because that’s what “Pilipinas Kay Ganda,” coupled with that egregious website name, sounds like -- a promotion for sex tourism, as has been pointed out on Twitter. Maybe we are in denial here or perhaps the DOT people know something that we don’t. Such as, perhaps more money is being made in sex tourism than tours in Boracay or Sagada?

I understand that the DOT has taken down its porn site and that it’s going to make changes in the new tagline. Fine, although I think that does not erase the fact that Romano and his gang committed a crime here. Romano and his supposedly techie gang cannot use an important industry like tourism as their sandbox for stupid ideas.

I think Romano ought to be punished for this. He should be fired or he should resign and Secretary Alberto Lim should give the job of planning and promotion to someone who is actually good at it, not someone who pretends to be good at it.

I think the DOT should rescind or at least rethink its contract with the advertising agency, reportedly Campaigns & Grey, for the amateurish campaign. I’m pretty sure other agencies can do a better job with a 100-million-peso budget.

Sheesh. How many more faux pas would these amateurs commit before the president realizes how dumb the idea was to appoint people to key government positions just because they joined in the campaign against Arroyo? There’s Ricky Carandang and Edwin Lacierda. Then there’s Mai Mislang. Now this.

Then again, what does this president know, right?

He said he gave the British tycoon a red stewardess outfit when the duo met at the celebrations on track Sunday night and they agreed on how the bet would be settled.

They will run an online charity auction for the seats on a Kuala Lumpur-London flight, according to the AirAsia boss.

"The date of the flight will be announced very soon and the aim is to raise as much money as we can for a good cause so the discomfort Richard will go through is worth as much as it possibly can be," said Fernandes.

Lotus and Virgin Racing were among four teams making their Formula One debuts this season.

The report quoted one Shanghai dog-lover as saying officials should focus on educating citizens on how to raise pets responsibly – such as having them neutered – instead of developing draconian measures.

"The government should improve public knowledge about how to raise a dog and how to prevent them from attacking people ... instead of forcing us to raise one dog only," a resident surnamed Wang said.

Cohen appealed the judgment and refused to allow assessment of his business: He provided false information and declared most of his companies bankrupt while illegally moving assets out of US jurisdiction. When an arrest warrant was issued, Cohen fled to Mexico. Kremen offered a $50,000 reward for information,[3] but Cohen remained at large while continuing to file appeals that were rejected. In October 2005, Cohen was arrested in Tijuana, Mexico for immigration violations, and was handed over to US authorities.[4]

Cohen was released from custody on December 5, 2006, when Judge Ware determined that "the Court is satisfied that Cohen has provided an accounting of assets to the extent that he is able from jail." Cohen currently is representing himself and provided the Court with an address in Mazatlan, Mexico.

Sebelumnya, anggota Tim SAR, Subur Mulyono juga memastikan bahwa Mbah Maridjan sudah tewas. Jenazah Mbah Maridjan ditemukan pukul 05.00 Waktu Indonesia Barat tadi pagi.

"Mbah Maridjan ditemukan dalam posisi sedang sujud di dekat rumahnya," kata Subur di RS Sardjito, Yogyakarta, Rabu 27 Oktober 2010, sebelumnya.

Saat dievakuasi, posisi Mbah Maridjan masih sujud dengan luka bakar di tubuhnya. Subur mengaku mengenali jenazah tersebut dari batik yang dikenakan jenazah.

Physical fitness

Yes, it’s a bit of a stereotype, but you’ll probably concede that many of the gay men you know are serious about physical fitness, and that’s another reason why women love gay men. Of course, heterosexual women are big fans of the carefully sculpted male form. Gay or straight, women enjoy being in the presence of a well-built man.

In many instances, gay men simply take better care of themselves than we do, and our female companions would appreciate it if we followed suit. So take a cue from your athletically inclined gay friends, and hit the gym with your significant other, or join her when she goes for a run.

A 2008 study published by the National Academy of Sciences revealed that gay men and straight women have similarly shaped brains: Both are symmetrical, whereas the straight male brain is asymmetrical; it is slightly larger on the right side (the same shape as the gay female brain). So, it’s possible that gay men think and see the world in a way that women can relate to; that might be another reason why women love gay men.

The bottom line is that your girlfriend’s friends communicate with her, and her gay male friend is no exception. His willingness to sympathize and try to understand her is surely one of the reasons your girlfriend loves her gay friend. And it wouldn’t kill you to take a cue from that guy and think about her feelings a bit more often. Just because our brains are shaped differently doesn’t mean we can’t be a little more sensitive.

Faithfulness

Because women don’t have to worry about their gay male friends leaving them for other women. Surely one of the things that women get out of a friendship with a gay man is male companionship without the fear of betrayal or abandonment.

So what can you do to demonstrate your faithfulness to a woman (besides, you know, not cheating on her)? Try keeping your wandering eye in check. For instance, when you’re out with your girlfriend and a pair of insanely hot twins walks by, don’t let your head spin around like a top

Fun

We’re generalizing again here, but let it be said: Gay guys are just a good time. They’re funny, refreshingly frank about sex and they can dance. We recognize there must be some dull, socially awkward gay guys out there, but most of the gay guys we know are fun to hang out with, and that’s another reason why women love gay men.

The lesson for straight guys:

Try to be less inhibited. Talk louder. Be bolder. Maybe even strut your stuff on the dance floor every now and then

LEARN FROM THE GAYS

"Pelan transformasi pun dah kita rumuskan dengan begitu teliti.

"Insya-Allah hari Isnin ini akan ada pengumuman yang besar berhubung GTP (Pelan Transformasi Kerajaan) dan bererti segala perancangan kita dah sedia untuk dimulakan," katanya lagi.

Tambahnya, beliau dan timbalannya Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin juga akan mengikuti program untuk bertemu dengan rakyat di seluruh negara.

Ditanya sekiranya program itu merupakan petanda bahawa pilihan raya akan berlangsung tidak lama lagi, Najib berkata langkah itu boleh diinterpretasikan dalam banyak cara.

"Saya ada susunan dalam menjalankan sesuatu," katanya lagi.

ASX, Singapore Exchange in merger

THE Singapore Stock Exchange is expected to make a full takeover bid for ASX Ltd on Monday after both stocks went into a trading halt.

Singapore is bigger than the Australian Stock Exchange, with a market value of around $S10 billion ($7.8bn) against $6.2bn for the ASX, and is also trading on a multiple of 71 times against 17 times for the ASX.

Final details are still being worked out but it is likely the Singapore exchange will provide the chairman and chief executive, with ASX chair David Gonski to be deputy chair, The Australian reports.

The deal will need to be cleared by the Australian government.

The ASX Ltd entered into a trading halt after its share price rose on speculation of a possible merger.

Darth Lucas to build studio in Singapore !

THE father of the highly successful Star Wars movie franchise will set the Singapore arm of his film production company to work on his new animation movie.

The film by George Lucas, possibly in 3-D, is slated for global release in 2013.

For this and other undertakings in visual effects and games creation, Lucasfilm Singapore is looking to hire at least 50 artists here by March. Together with the artists among the company's 400 employees here, they will see to aspects of the film like texturing, compositing, lighting and modelling for the characters and its sequences.

Before this, the only experience the artists here have had in producing something by Lucas was for the animated television series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, for which they did only 40 per cent of the production work.

Details of the full-length animation film are still under wraps. It is understood that the key creative work in scripting and design will still be done at Lucasfilm's San Francisco headquarters.

Ms Micheline Chau, the president and chief operating officer of Lucasfilm, told The Straits Times that a feature animation unit will be set up within Lucasfilm Singapore.
