WD Ext. HDD Problem

I have a 2TB WD MyBook Essential USB3.0, so a few days ago during a thunderstorm, my computer suddenly notified me that my external drive is drawing too much power and has been disabled. Later I checked all my other devices (which are still working fine), but when I tried to turn on the external drive, the LED lit up and I can hear the hard disk spinning inside, but it can't be detected by my computer anymore.

I tried
- Restarting my computer,
- Connecting spare USB cables and spare power adapters to see whether is it cable/power adapter problem,
- Connecting it to another computer to see whether is it my comp or my USB port's problem,
- WD's diagnostic software cannot detect the drive connected through USB,
- Device manager, Disk management and OSX's Disk utility shows nothing

My friend says that most probably the HDD is fried, or the logic board circuitry inside is short circuited.

So sifus any advice here? Should I just send it for RMA, or is there any solution that I have overlooked? Also, will WD's warranty policy cover devices struck by lightning?

Thanks!
