With GST, SST will be abolished.

16:27

Deficit fiscal trimmed from 6.7% (2009) to 3.9% (2013), and 3.5% by end of 2014.

16:24

We are now ranked the highest economic growth in South East Asia.

16:23

Budget 2015 is a budget of economy based on the rakyat's needs.

16:21

"People economy and capital economy cannot be separated. They exist in a symbiosis relationship," said PM.

16:18

The biggest challenge we face in administrating the country is balancing policies that are populist in nature with policies that are based on economic health of the country.

16:17

With the aim to achieve high-income nation in 2020, such as Japan and Korea. All these countries started with agriculture, just like us.

16:15

Opening address by Prime Minister: Government is still committed to develop Malaysia, with the 11th Malaysian Plan starting May 2015 with the Malaysia National Development Strategy (MyNDS).

16:00

And we're off! Malaysians, are we ready for Budget 2015?

15:54

Just a few more minutes to go. We are now waiting for Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to start his speech.

15:51

There are expectations for lower corporate and income tax rates of up to 1% for companies and up to 3% for individuals under Budget 2015.

15:49

More policies to strengthen small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) are expected to be introduced under Budget 2015.

15:40

In 2014, the RPGT rate was increased to 30% for properties held for less than three years to curb speculation. Disposals for holding period up to four and five years also rose to 20% and 15% respectively.

Experts speculate that RPGT may be raised further this year. How will this impact the property market?

15:34

In addressing the rising cost of living among the middle-income group, the Government will likely increase the BR1M cash handouts to eligible households.
Malaysia Democracy vss Monarchy

QUESTION TIME.
Most legal authorities and previous judgments on such issues are clear on one thing – the sultan/governor/Agong must choose the candidate who is most likely to command the support of the majority of the state assembly or Parliament for the post of menteri besar/chief minister/prime minister.

And where it is clear that a single candidate commands that majority support, there is no need for the titular head of state to ask for any other names to be nominated but he has to follow the constitutional duty of endorsing the candidate who legally commands the majority support.

This is what a constitutional monarchy is about, where the the head of state lies above politics, does not interfere in the administration of the state, and whose only role here is an important, non-partisan one of ensuring the person who commands the support of the majority of the assembly is the chosen one.

That is the essence of Parliamentary democracy and this must not be allowed to be played around with by any party as the will of the people is reflected through elections in the composition of the state assembly and Parliament. The role of the monarch is to ensure that the will prevails no matter what.

The sultan of Selangor had insisted on other names to be submitted for consideration, but this was not done by PKR, who said that they need to submit only one name. And indeed, according to most sane legal opinion, that is correct.

Another Private College & Stranded Students

Lured by the promise of working on cruise ships, a group of Nepalis spent thousands of ringgit to enrol in a local college but ended up being stranded here, earning pittance as interns.

Most of them feared being arrested as they did not even have their passports, which were supposedly sent to the Immigration Department for visa extensions.

More than 80 Nepalese have become such victims and those who got back their passports have since returned home – without any full refunds on their fees.

Raju, 33, is one such victim. He gave up his job in a pharmaceutical company in Nepal, left his wife and infant son, to enrol in the “exclusive” Certificate in Cruise Operation Management course conducted by Lence Academy.

“I wanted to give my family a good future and a good life,” he told The Star at his dingy apartment in Puchong recently

While in Nepal, he had seen newspaper advertisements guaranteeing jobs aboard cruise liners that paid in US dollars, which applicants could get if they signed up for the course.

Among the advertisers was Oxon Institute & Consultancy, a company that worked with Lence Academy to enrol the Nepalese.

Like the others, Raju who arrived in October last year on a six-month student visa, believed that he would be interning at a five-star hotel or a fine dining restaurant before being hired by a cruise liner company.

Instead, he was sent by Greencity International College – a sister company of Lence Academy that shared the same address – to work in a small restaurant here as a general worker.

He said the students were told that their internships would run on days when there were no classes. Frustrated, he joined some of his coursemates to work as interns in a pub.

By May, Raju was still working in the pub and despite several cruise job interviews and promises from the college, he was none the nearer in landing his dream job.

Balram, 24, said several students were sent for multiple interviews with cruise companies.

“None got a chance to work,” he said.

Another student, Rajendra, 24, said an agent linked to the college took him and several others to intern at a pub.

He said when they objected, wanting a hotel internship as promised, they were told that they must pass a hotel recruitment process.

“I started the internship at the pub two months ago and I was told to start all over again if I stopped,” he said.

Rajendra said he and the others worked in pubs for at least up to 12 hours a day, five times a week, and were only paid between RM700 and RM800 a month.

When he demanded in May to be sent home, he was told to apply for a special pass to go back and given only about 10% of the RM18,230 in fees that he paid to the college last year.

Raju said he borrowed money from friends and family and going home empty-handed was not justified and shameful.

“What am I going to tell them back home?”

Dharmalal, 25, said his brother and fellow student Narayan, 28, had gone missing for more than a month. “I fear that he could be in a detention centre for not having any legal documents.”

Following complaints against Greencity International College, previously known as the Orange International College in November last year, Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan was quoted as saying that the claims were being investigated.

However, there has not been any indication on the outcome of the probe so far.

When contacted, the college’s assistant marketing manager Celine Ong said foreign students were only given “job opportunities” and not “job guarantees” after they had completed their course.

Names of students have been changed to protect their identities.

Sounds like foul play in MH370 like 9-11

I am trying to read in between the line and I feel something is missing and we are hearing contradicting statements from the Malaysian authorities.
Nonetheless we remained bewildered by the contradicting statements from our officials. Many people over the world might wonder how many imposters had indeed boarded the plane in the end.

Was it four or two? Who can give the correct answers? Why was it answered by the Director General of Civil Aviation Department who has no purview over such matters?

Now that it has been widely reported that the passengers who boarded the plane with Caucasian-European passports were people of Middle East origin after contradicting statements from two ministers. How could this have happened or been missed?

In view of this, an internal inquiry on the Immigration Department is absolutely necessary not solely to resolve the riddle but more importantly to trigger our soul searching over such talk as KPIs, competence, and graft-busting.

I was given to understand that there are those out there who know it is quite easy through clandestine or nefarious means to slip through the system. Now such complacency has been highlighted – whether or not the stolen passports has anything to do with the disappearance of MH370.

No doubt, at this crucial hour, nationwide prayer seeking divine intervention is necessary and understandable. But the powers that be are certainly expected to do more – at least to act decisively, in addition to their prayer call, because every minute counts.

After all, the fate of all those on board the plane and the global trust in our nation (that might affect the future investments and economic cooperation) are now on the line.

Malaysia will be better without Najib & UMNO

Utusan Malaysia has again come out with guns blazing against Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, with advice to Pakatan Rakyat on how to remain relevant.

This time, the Umno mouthpiece said the coalition should remove Anwar as its top leader.

"As long as Anwar continues in his role as adviser to Pakatan Rakyat, it will give the ruling coalition Barisan Nasional (BN) an edge," said Awang Selamat, the daily's editorial pseudonym.

Rosmah's son buys RM110mil condo in New York

The 36-year-old stepson of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has reportedly purchased a US$33.5 million (RM110 million) condominium unit in New York.

Riza Shahriz Abdul Aziz (far left), the son of the prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor from an earlier marriage, bought the property at 63rd Street in Park Laurel, New York,

The report quotes a New York real estate website, The Real Deal, which said Riza bought the seven-bedroom property on Nov 19 last year.

A New York Times report says the penthouse unit, situated in Central Park West, was purchased by Riza under the shield of a limited-liability company named Park Laurel Acquisition.
