Save Social Energy Share -

As requested by the senior member, I've brought this over here for discussion. I really feel passionate about this. Especially don't like those kinds of Too Much Information Tweets.

The movement has grown so big now. They now have over 600 fans on Facebook and seem to have tied up with a blogger who posts really funny updates.

Check out his video -

And this is his blog - http://gavingoesgaga.com/

I'm quite impressed by this movement and see the point of it now. They've put this up on the fan page and I was wondering what your thoughts on it are.

Ten Tips for Saving Social Energy
1
)Think Before You Tweet Do you really need to verbalise every inane thought that goes through your head? “Umm…hungry *ROARS*” is as useful to someone following you as a burp out loud in his face, and just as unappreciated. It also pollutes his timeline with rubbish that he has to waste time scanning through. Other pollutants include TMI (too much information) updates and rapid-fire multiple tweets that clog up a follower’s entire timeline.

2) Know Your Friends And Followers In offline interactions, you would know what your friends like or dislike, and what their individual thresholds are for certain things. In the same manner, you should know if someone is receptive to being poked, if he would find a particular video as amusing you did, or if he’s likely to participate in Mafia Wars with you. Even if you don’t, you should have the awareness not to share these things with a particular person in future if she doesn’t respond, or tells you to stop. Be considerate.

3) Your Friend’s Wall Is Not An Advertising Board You wouldn’t stick a flyer on your friend’s front door or on his forehead, so don’t do put up advertisements of any kind on his wall either —unless you’ve asked and gotten his permission to do so. Nobody enjoys being used for someone else’s agenda.

4) Don’t Overshare Sure, there may be a badge in it for you on Foursquare, but oversharing by overtweeting and updating too often (as opposed to TMI shares) is no badge of honour. It’s as annoying as that person at dinner who just won’t stop talking or give others a chance to be heard.

5) If The Sign Says “Do Not Disturb”, Do Not Disturb Respecting another person’s space is just basic courtesy. If someone has the “Busy” status on, newsflash: they probably are actually busy. The last thing they need is to feel obliged to have a conversation with you just to be polite when you weren’t in the first place.

6) Don’t Be A Purveyor Of Old News
You see a funny joke or an interesting piece of news and immediately retweet it. But did you check to see that the joke had already been making the rounds last week? Not only will you be sharing something that’s already stale and boring, it also makes you sound like you’re behind the curve. Lastly, nobody’s going to laugh.

7) Be Safe, Not Spammy
If you’re not going to be careful about opening dubious emails and links, it’s your problem if you get a virus right? Wrong. Many such viruses and worms can then exploit your system and account to pass themselves on to your contacts. Be proactive. Be safe. Be considerate.

8) Keep Your Emails Short And Sweet It’s simple math: If you have to go through 100 emails a day, and each long, rambling email takes 15 seconds to read, then it would take you 50 minutes to go through all of them (and we’re not even counting the time you’ll need to respond). If each email only required 5 seconds, the same number of emails would only take you nine minutes to read! Keep emails short for everyone’s sake.

9) Don’t Double Post The problem with setting your Twitter updates to show on your Facebook status as well? Most of the people who follow you on Twitter are already your friends on Facebook. We don’t need to see all your updates twice. See how irritating it is to read something twice for no reason? See how irritating it is to read something twice for no reason?

10) This Isn’t A Private Chatroom Having an exclusive conversation on Twitter or doing it Wall-to-Wall on Facebook is a little pointless to everyone else who can see it (besides people who enjoy eavesdropping). It also unnecessarily clutters up timelines and walls. And then there are conversations via email — haven’t you heard of messaging?

The official website for the campaign is at http://www.savesocialenergy.com
The official Facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/savesocialenergy

Hope this helps in this discussion. Do share your thoughts on the ideas they've proposed. I shall not post anymore links. Thanks for listening.
