[WTA]Building Gaming PC with 2k-2.3k

Hi guys

I'm trying to get a PC gaming for my brother. I need some of your opinion on which hardware you would recommend. Well, his main purpose is to play Dragon Age: Inquisition(high or max if possible with this budget) and future games. There is no need for monitor, speaker and drive. He has a 1080p LED monitor.

As far as I know, he is looking for a small casing which is not so expensive due to his limited space in his room. He won't be doing any OCing.

CPU:
MBO:
RAM:
GPU:
HDD: WD BLACK EDITION RM260
Casing:
PSU:

Trying to get these before the price increases.

Thanks in advance guys!

Could it be PSU problem?

Hi guys

I would like to get advice from you.

This is my specification:
CPU: Intel i5 2500 3300 mhz sandy bridge
RAM: 4GB DDR3 kingston x 2 pieces
HDD: Samsung 1TB 7200RPM SATA
GPU: R9 290 GAMING 4G ( http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R9_290_GAMI...l#hero-overview )
Drive: DVD-RW drive
MB: Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3-B3 LGA 1155
Fans: 3 80mm Fans (1 of them has LED) Cooler master
Casing: Cooler Master Elite 430 ( http://www.coolermaster.com/case/mid-tower/elite-430-black/ )
PSU: Silverstone Strider Essential 600W ( http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=294 )

I need to write this fast before my machine hangs. I will get straight to the point.

Last 1-2 weeks, I noticed that i heard sound like something is turn off and then turn off. However, my PC was still running and I was playing my game that time. Today, i just turned on my machine for only 10 minutes, plug in my controller and then run my game (assassin creed 3). After 5 minutes, my screen went blank. I thought my display had problem but it turns out my PC was totally power off. It's not shutting down or restarting, it just power off by itself. I went and power it on by pushing the power button but there was no response at all.

So I had to power cycle it (turn off all the switches, unplug the power cable, then put it back) and it came back online. It is loading windows with no problem. I just ran the game again and played it for 30 minutes. After that I quit the game and left my PC on to do my personal things. 25 minutes later, I came back and found out my screen was blank. It would turn out windows actually hanged. There was no response from my keyboard even though my PC power is still on. I restart my windows again and windows was unable to startup, so I ran to run some repair, restart a couple of times, restore point then its back to normal.

As I was writing this content of my thread, it suddenly hang again. I didn't run any game. I don't dare to use scandisk as it may hang during the scanning and damage my HDD.

I checked with lowyat forumer, my PSU should be sufficient enough. I got this GPU on 8th April 2014 and I never had any problem until now.

This is my current GPU clock. MSI Gaming default.
[attachmentid=4050659]

Apart from recent windows update and flash update, there was no other update. I didn't install any additional hardware except plugging my USB controller. I plugged my controller before and it was working fine.

I'm not sure if it is my PSU problem or something else. Is there anyway to test it?

PS: It hanged again after few minutes. Currently, I'm using safe mode with networking and see if it hangs or not.

Hi guys

This is my current spec:

CPU: Intel i5 2500 3300 mhz sandy bridge
RAM: 4GB DDR3 kingston x 2 pieces
HDD: Samsung 1TB 7200RPM SATA
Drive: DVD-RW drive
MB: Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3-B3 LGA 1155
Fans: 3 80mm Fans (1 of them has LED) Cooler master
Casing: Cooler Master Elite 430 ( http://www.coolermaster.com/case/mid-tower/elite-430-black/ )
PSU: Silverstone Strider Essential 600W ( http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=294 )

There are 2 GPU i'm interested which is SAPPHIRE TRI-X R9 290 and
PowerColor PCS+ R9 290.

At the moment, these GPU are out of stock and the power color, I haven't seen them yet in Malaysia hardware list.

As far as I know, the both of them have 2 years warranty only.

My main concern is the power supply and the size of the GPU. I have checked in http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp that the power consumption is 535w. I chose 290x since there is no tri-X card in the list. They recommended to use Corsair Enthusiast Series CP-9020039-NA650W which is expensive. I have check the length size cos I heard these cards are big.

Tri-X is 305mm and power color is 266.65mm. I looked at the coolermaster site, they stated my casing can fit maximum 315mm. Therefore I suspect it could fit in but I need a confirmation or 2nd opinion from you, masters.

I'm didn't do any OC on my hardware and I'm not planning to do any Crossfire. I know that 290 reference cooler works fine with my current PSU but I'm not sure about Tri-X and powercolor because they are now OC-ed.

I was hoping not to get new PSU because of my budget but if new PSU is needed, then I have no choice. Oh yeah, I heard about MSI 290 gaming, not sure if I should consider that as well. http://us.msi.com/product/vga/R9-290-GAMING-4G.html

I would appreciate alot if you could help with answer on the PSU if it is good enough and the size length of the card.

Thanks!

[WTA] PSU for R9 290

Hi guys

I read some of the previous topics about the PSU. As some said that 600W would be sufficient for R9 290. Even though the box wrote 750W is required but most of the time, they increase it higher just for insurance.

I didn't want to hijack other people's topic, so I created 1 for myself. I'm planning to get the R9 290 but reseller recommended me to get better PSU.

This is my spec.

CPU: Intel i5 2500 3300 mhz sandy bridge
RAM: 4GB DDR3 kingston x 2 pieces
HDD: Samsung 1TB 7200RPM SATA
Drive: DVD-RW drive
MB: Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3-B3 LGA 1155
Fans: 3 80mm Fans (1 of them has LED) Cooler master
Casing: Cooler Master Elite 430
PSU: Silverstone Strider Essential 600W ( http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=294 )

I don't overclock and reason of changing is because my Nvidia 560Ti RMA will take 5 weeks. Lately, the latest drivers isn't working so well with my nvidia card, it has been hanging at windows 7 desktop intermittently. My motherboard doesn't have any built in graphics, so I can't use PC for 5 weeks. I RMA the Nvidia 560Ti is because it caused blank screen when i playing games. Even restarting the PC, it still showing blank screen even though I can hear windows startup. It could be PSU fault but I need a spare card to test.

I checked alot on website that 600W should be good enough for 290 but they were answering based on the user's PC specification. I even checked this website http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine and did some calculation, it was showing me 543W is recommended. I need a confirmation from you guys by judging with my current PC specification.

Thank you for your time.

PC intermittently hang & can't boot up

This problem occurred since last month but it doesn't this often. It usually happened after I start a game like ME3 or Diablo 3(Beta). After running the game, before any intense battle happened, the machine hanged. It happened after 5 minutes in the game. After it hanged, i did a hard reset, I received a 1 long, 2 short beeps with no display. Based on the MBO manual, it shows monitor or GPU error. I reseated the cables at the back of my PC, unplugged the power cord, then plug it back and try again, I can startup the machine. However, before I could even launch any apps, it hanged again. Thus, the machine can't boot up at all.

As you can see from my youtube video I uploaded, the machine shows a symptoms of on and off. Problem is that I only turned on this machine for an hour only. I never suspect any overheat or anything.

I just left it for few hours after unplugging the cable and power cord, it was able to startup again. This isn't the 1st time I had this problem but last night happened very frequent. Does anyone had this problem before or encountered it? This machine is still under warranty since it's only 11 months but I wanted to narrow down the problem so I can speed up.

I wanted to use the onboard video to test but it's intermittent and only happened when I ran the game.

[YOUTUBE]yF6oKuGUkQw[/YOUTUBE]

Gaming rig with monitor for 3k

Happy Chinese New Year.

I have a friend looking for a new rig for his gaming. He waited until Feb where he was told the price would be cheaper now.

He told me his budget is and he doesn't need DVD & HDD. However, he needs a new monitor. He requested some common monitor would do, so I believed the normal 24 inch monitor he is requesting. He needed the rig to play the future games like Mass Effect 3.

May I know the list of hardware he could get with this 3k budget?

Thanks in advance.

Upgrading PC budget RM2000

My friend is planning to upgrade his current system since recently, his display is giving him alot of problems. He is thinking of keeping the System board so he can upgrade other things. His current budget is around RM2000. He doesn't need to get monitor and speakers. He just need the upgrade the desktop machine for the gaming purpose. He is more to RPG fan, so he planning to get Mass Effect 3 next year. He also like CoD games.

his system board is ASUS P5QPL-AM:
http://my.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5QPLAM/

Current spec:
Proc: Core 2 Duo E7200 (2.53Ghz)
RAM: 2GB RAM
Display: Nvidia 8600 GTS
PSU: very old, most likely needs replacement
MBO: ASUS P5QPL-AM
HDD: 500GB HDD

He is most likely to get upgrade on the HDD, display card and PSU. I asked him to get 460 if possible but i dont know if his current motherboard may bottleneck his performance since it doesn't support i5 processor. If his current motherboard is not recommended for gaming, then it may need to be upgraded and i will ask what is the maximum budget he can dish out.

May I ask for your advices for his upgrades? Thanks in advance, guys.
[WTA] Sound card for Edifier S330D ?

Hi guys, just some inquiries I would like to ask based on your recommendation or opinions. I have tried to research online about the sound cards and most of them talked about creative X-fi. They also mentioned that most of the onboard sound is already good enough and getting sound card won't help much. Some said that sound card is always better than the onboard.

I am currently using Edifier S330D with onboard sound. My S330D has optical in port so I am currently plugging it in my fibre optical cable to motherboard S/PDIF output.

This is my current motherboard
Gigabyte p67a-ud3-b3
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-p...spx?pid=3765#sp

My Edifier speakers 2.1 S330D
http://www.edifier.ca/english/speakers/s330d/s330d.htm

Majority of people talked about x-fi fatality or titanium but my budget for the sound card is less than RM200.

However I'm not sure if getting sound card for this would make much of a difference as my S330D is not high end speakers. I played PS3 using my S330D and i noticed the bass is alot better compared to the one i play on my PC. Based on your opinion, do you think with my current speaker S330D would make a different with a RM200 sound card? I am looking at X-fi Xtreme Audio as it fits my budge but would it make a difference for my current speakers?

Thank you.
