Alamanda project in Kulim

Some of you may remember in the late 90's there was a very hyped up development in Kulim. Luxury homes were promised with gated community etc. Here are a few links :

https://www.hba.org.my/news/2009/10/developer_liquidated.htm

https://www.malaysiakini.com/letters/38402

So from what I can understand the original developer was liquidated before completion of the properties sold. I was one of the buyer who made a down payment of 10K for a piece of land there. So when the company went under I lost 10K and I thought that's the end of the story, lesson learnt.

I just got a phonecall today from another company called Vintage (mentioned in the article above) saying that I owe them 36K in quit rent for the past 26 years! So I owe quit rent for a property that does not exist and that I have never used. When I queried the authenticity of their claim, they said that they are just following court orders. They also asked if I have received any statement for the quit rent and I have never gotten anything in the past 26 years.

I asked the man who called why it took them 26 years to inform me of this court ruling. He could not answer and said that he will now send me the court order and the quit rent payments made on my behalf by their company!

Has anyone ever encountered such an issue?
Dead HD on my iMac

I have a late 2007 20" iMac running the latest version of Mountain Lion. I am now unable to boot into the OS. All I get is the flashing folder icon with a ? on top of it. I am able to boot into a backup of my Macbook which resides on a portable USB drive but when I go to the System Preference I cannot find my iMac's drive on the Startup Disk option. The only options are the Macbook backup and Network disk (which I do not have). Does this mean that my HD is gone?

Can anyone recommend some place where I can get it replaced besides authorised Apple resellers? The latter usually charge a bomb. I am in Penang and my experience with Switch is that there quote a very exorbitant price. Thanks.

Dying HD

Lately I have been experiencing slow downs, spinning beach balls and sluggish performance on my late 2007 iMac. I also get the flashing question mark when booting into the system. I suspect that my HD may finally be dying. I called up the Switch service center in Penang and was quoted the price of RM 800 for a new 1 terabyte HD replacement plus RM 180 for labour charges. Sounds pricey but would like to hear from others on this. Should I just go for a new laptop seeing how their specs are now not much behind the desktops?

Problem with dead mic

Bought my iPhone 4 last year around christmas which means it is still under warranty. Just found that I cannot speak into the mic on the earphones. The receiver cannot hear me when I am calling him/her but I can hear them. Tried recording a voice memo using the earphones' mic and nothing is recorded. I can still listen to music via the earphones though. Called Maxis and the guy told me that the warranty only covers the phone and not the earphones. Is this right?

out of ports, out of luck

2 years ago i moved down to KL from penang for work purposes. at that time i transferred my streamyx connection from my penang phone line to my line in KL. i will be moving back to penang in a few days time and i went to the tmpoint in telawi, to transfer my connection back to the original phone line in penang. to my shock the guy told me that there are no more available ports in my area in penang! he was very vague about if there will be more ports made available in the near future but did say that he will ask the technician to check it out and get back to me next week. is this possible? what are my chances of getting back my connection when i arrive back in penang?
