[Review] MSI Big Bang Fuzion

Hi guys. Used the MSI Big Bang Fuzion for a few weeks and wrote a brief review on the motherboard itself for the Duskbin organization. This is my first time reviewing the motherboard so I didn't cover deeply into the technical specifications (as if people can't google it anyway), just an impression of how the Fuzion worked for me.

The huge Msi Big Bang Fuzion box

One of the flagships of the Msi Gaming Motherboard line, the MSI Big Bang Fuzion was released into the market some time ago. Asides from the massive statistics-heavy reviews found throughout the internet by overclocking enthuasists, DuskBin E-sports decide to take a look at this top-end motherboard from the viewpoint of serious gaming players.

As such, this will not be an in-depth review with all the specific features and thorough overclocking tests, instead it will serve as an impression of my experience with the Big Bang Fuzion after a few weeks of usage.

As I unboxed the huge package that came with the MSI Big Bang Fuzion motherboard, everything from the design of the package, leaflets, booklets to the packaging method just screams premium. To be even more newbie-friendly, Msi helpfully included a booklet explaining the basics of overclocking, a booklet on Control Center usage, and another booklet dedicated solely to the OC Genie auto-overclocking system, which I will be covering in the review later.

One of the important qualities of a motherboard is often neglected by spec-heavy enthusiasts is the overall looks of the motherboard itself. The Big Bang Fuzion is fused with hues of dark gray and blue with a glossy design, giving the motherboard a very solid feel. Also, the quality of the components used in the Big Bang Fuzion could be recognized right away straight out of the box, including the thick 8mm heatpipes around the processor socket, Hi-c Caps, and almost for everything that produces heat in the motherboard, there will be a passive cooling solution attached to them.

The Quantum Wave audio card comes with 7.1 channel audio output (analog). Despite looks of a dedicated soundcard, it's merely an application layer addon -- main sound is still handled by the motherboard's integrated Realtek ALC889 -- yet enhanced by Creative and THX with a software layer. Attached to the motherboard and with the power of modern audio processing technology, this onbooard sound system will truimph the mass gaming USB soundcards on bundled gaming headsets any day (when you're gaming on your home desktop rig, that is.)

For the Lucid Hydra chip that enables mixing of nVidia and ATi graphic cards, sadly to say I have not gotten the opportunity to utilize it yet. As far as I'm concerned according the the instruction booklet, there's quite a bit of llimitations regarding the mixing of the graphic cards and the games they're able to work on. Nevertheless, its welcoming to know that the Fuzion is able to perform such a task for me in the future, if needed.

Broken headbands

Bad things always happen to my Senns. Was enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean 3 - At World's End soundtrack just now and after that I removed my HD580, possibly a bit too much stress and snap. My headband snapped. That shocked me for a while there. lol

56K warning though.

Anyone knows where can I get a replacement or get it replaced? I'm no DIY'er so maybe I'll try sticking them back together with Elephant super glue. I highly doubt it will work though.

Suggestions and discussions on broken headbands are welcome.

HD580 distortion

My HD580 was purchased from ttvj last December for only around RM500+ including shipping and I have been enjoying it by hours every day.

A few days ago I started listening some music in my room on my CD player and noticed something different about the headphone. The soundstage was definitely narrowed down and mids/highs were muffled. Badly muffled. I proceeded to test it on my portable rig (ipod 5.5g line out -> LDM+) and there was VERY TERRIBLE distortion - blown-speaker-terrible. The same goes to testing it on my comp, but it wasn't as serious as it was on my portable.

Damn that would be troublesome, to claim warranty from the US. I tried to find my hd580 box with everything including receipts and warranty stuff in it but there were nowhere to be found. Apparently I found out that my mom had already got rid of it months ago. I was really furious. She just walked into my room and saw the box and thought I was keeping rubbish in my room

So I emailed Sennheiser@sg and see what they could do, probably repair/service it for me. It would still cost me to mail the stuff there though. They replied my email yesterday.

I doubt it's the cable's problem, so it might be the capsules but I'm no professional at the internals of headphones so I have no idea.

Considering of sending it for repairs now, but is there any other way?

P/S: This is a bad week. My Mylarone's left driver died a few days ago before this happened to my HD580 also, I'm gonna mail it back to walabies tomorrow. This is so badddddd. Sooo baddddddd

On DAPs and file formats

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I would like to know that what kind of DAP (digital audio player) most of you are using? According to what I know it's probably the iPod videos or creative zen or other hard drive based players. Are hard drive based DAPs better than flash based DAPs on the sound quality?

Also, most flash players do not support lossless codecs. The only way to get better audio from these players are 320kpbs mp3 (for me). As for most of you, do you listen to mostly lossless files on DAPs?

Finally, where do you get your FLAC (or other lossless codecs) from? Burning it from CD to computer and then comp to DAP? To me I my only option for high quality music is on the CD from my big ass CD player. I want them to be portable. And not on low quality mp3's.

Bunch of noob questions but it's hard to find obvious answers to them by searching around.
