PC bootup problems!

Greetings friends,

I have a 4 year old PC, AMD processor. All was working fine until today. When I switched it on, there was a continuous series of beeping sounds. It is regular, and sounds "beep........beep........beep........beep" continuously. Nothing appears on the monitor. No hard disk activity. The PC appears to go through the boot devices in the BIOS, because I can see both my CD drives lighting up for a while. The beeping only stops when I switch off the computer by pressing the power button for more than 4 seconds.

I have not added/removed any new components in this PC. It successfully started two weeks ago without any problems.

What could be the problem here? I presume the BIOS is telling me something by the continuous series of beeps? CMOS battery dead? (even if the CMOS battery was dead, wouldn't the PC at least start up, and flash a warning while booting?) RAM faulty?

Appreciate suggestions to troubleshoot this problem because I'm not too technical when it comes to hardware.

TIA!
