[WTA] Lightning Isolator/Surge Protector/AVR

Lightning Isolator/Surge Protector/Automatic Voltage Regulator

1. Do I need any one of the above or any combination of the above to protect my computer system from lightning strike and power surge? Are they necessary? Below is the list of hardware I would like to protect:
A.) Family PC - Intel DH67BL/Core i3 2100/FSP Hexa 500/Dell Ultrasharp U2311H/No GC (Max turn on only 2 - 5 hours a day)
B.) AIO Printer (Only turn on very few time in a month)
C.) DSL Modem (Always on)

2. Do I need to put all the hardware mentioned above within the same protection or use different protection for different hardware?

3. Since most of the protectors come without individual on/off switch, would it harm my other hardware (PC/Printer) if I always turn the protectors on just to let the DSL modem stay on if it is within the same protection?

Thanks for your help.

AIO inkjet printer & refill ink

QUOTE

Pls let me know if this is not the correct forum to ask for printer recommendation.

Need recommendation on a reliable and durable AIO printer, budget below RM300. Not heavy user, so don't need CISS ink, but need individual refillable cartridge containers. Mainly use black ink and scanner, but color ink sometime still required. Found Brother DCP-J125 meets all my requirement, but is Brother printer reliable and durable? Is Brother refillable ink easy to get? Grateful if any Brother printer users can share your experience. If Brother is not a good choice, please recommend me another alternative. Thx!

Since no one can recommend me an AIO printer, if I were to buy the Brother DCP-J125 inkjet printer, any 3rd party refill ink is recommended? EsyInk? SaintInk? or others? Will these refill ink easy to clog the print head? And how to prevent print head clog? Thx!

Low cost netbook

My fren is looking for a low cost netbook.

Purpose: mainly 24/7 internet usage - torrent, download, etc (not necessary with big HDD)
Budget: RM1000 - RM1200, the lower the better

Must be low power usage, so I suggested E350 to him, but I am not familiar with netbook and whether can get with his budget, so any suggestion from anyone which brand good to go? Or you have better idea? Thanks!

If I were to build a Core i3 (1155) rig, does it make any different if I change the stock HSF to a better cooler (e.g. Hyper TX3)? Quieter? Cooler? Since Core i3 is almost unoverclockable. Thx!

[WTA] Building AMD budget system

Helping my fren building an AMD budget rig since I will be going to LYP to buy some stuff for myself. Basically, use for surfing net, ms office, virtualization (vmware, virtualbox) with his DVI monitor, watching movie using his HDMI TV, not for gaming. His budget is 1K, not including monitor, keyboard & mouse, speaker, just rig only. i drafted a spec for him, can someone help further? thx!

CPU: AMD Athlon II (X2/X3/X4)
mobo: 880G/785G mobo with DVI, HDMI port (ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO or MSI 785GM-E51 or recommend me)
RAM: 2x 2GB DDR3 (Corsair or Kingston value ram)
HDD: 500GB (Caviar blue or Spinpoint F3)
GC: I think dont need since the budget is low
DVD: any SATA DVD writer
Casing: any within budget casing
PSU: around 400w? (FSP Saga+ 400w or Gigabyte Powerock 390w or recommend me)

Is the above spec balance? I think the above spec can meet his requirement. Can someone help me to fine tune the above spec? Thx!

Need the sifu here to advice me which is better? Are they available from LYP? Which shop is selling and how much?

Cooler Master Elite Power 400w
Review: Hardware Secrets

FSP Saga II 400w
Review: Tom's Hardware

CM Elite Power 400w only problem is not 80+, but still close to 80% so I am ok with that, ripple & noise are within spec, can deliver the labeled power, and the protection is also working. I think this is not a bad PSU.

FSP Saga II 400w is 80+, but no information on whether the ripple & noise is within spec from the review.

I will go for FSP if the ripple & noise is within spec, but anyone know where can find? Otherwise, I will stay with CM. Any advice from the sifu?
