Are you prepared????
As always, it start as temporary measure.
Then become permanent.
Hahahahahahahaha

Tengku Zafrul: Proposal to allow foreign graduates to work a short-term solution to address shortage of skilled workers

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 3 — The proposal to allow foreign graduates of local institutes of higher education (IHE) to work temporarily in the country in certain fields such as the high-tech sector could further boost Malaysia’s education sector as an income generator for the country.

Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz said that this year foreign students in Malaysia are estimated to spend RM7.3 billion a year.

“The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) has been working with the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Human Resources, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation as well as various other agencies to increase the number of students and skilled workers in the high-tech field.

“As an example are collaborative projects that improve the skills of our graduates such as training programmes with industry,” he said in a video posting on X (previously known as Twitter) today.

Tengku Zafrul said such skilled workers are needed now.

“Investors cannot wait four more years. For example, the electrical and electronics industry needs 50,000 engineers. Our IHE so far only produces 5,000 graduates a year. So to meet the demand of the industry will take time.

“If investors want graduates in artificial intelligence (AI), for example, we cannot provide them candidates with political science degrees. After all, they (foreign graduates) also understand our work culture, which makes them the right choice,” he said.

He added that by allowing foreign graduates of local institutes of higher education to work temporarily in the country, the local industry will get the necessary supply of skilled manpower.

“Local IHE (can) be empowered in the international arena and our local graduates will continue to be given opportunities when they are ready,” he added. — Bernama

UK-based Msia doctor debunks health minister claim

UK-based Malaysian doctor debunks health minister’s claim drinking warm water offers protection against Covid-19

KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 — UK-based Malaysian trainee surgeon Dr Nur Amalina Che Bakri has debunked a claim made by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba that drinking warm water can help to prevent the Covid-19 infection.

Many social media users have shared a video of Dr Adham’s appearance on RTM’s Bicara Naratif programme last night, in which he recommended that Malaysians should ensure their mouths and throats are always moist, as this will help to wash the virus down the oesophagus, so it that it can be killed by our stomach acid.

In response to a post by lawyer Syahredzan Johan, Dr Nur Amalina, who first came to the attention of Malaysians when she helped pave the way for Ainul Mardhiah Ahmad Safiuddin’s successful tumour-removal operation in the United Kingdom, tweeted, “Not recommended by doctors and it is no evidence-based.”

In a second tweet shortly after, she added, “Having said that, drinking water is a good way to keep you hydrated but it doesn’t inactivate the virus in any way.”

Similarly, Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim also called on the Health Ministry to debunk its minister’s claims in a tweet.

“In this time of crisis, I hope @KKMPutrajaya will address the statement by YB Health Minister that warm water can ‘ease’ the passage of the Covid-19 virus to the stomach where it will be destroyed by stomach acid. The rakyat need accurate facts to protect themselves,” he wrote.

According to a report by British broadcaster BBC, the rumour that drinking water at regular 15-minute intervals and keeping your mouth moist can protect you from Covid-19 is among the most widely shared online fables.

Malay Mail is currently attempting to reach the Health Ministry for comment.

Source

Who want play finding vaccine game

Want to play a part in finding a vaccine for the COVID-19 virus while playing a game?

Researchers previously developed a game called Foldit, a crowd-sourced puzzle game where players need to fold proteins to change the way viruses behave.

Many people can work together to figure out how to neutralize viruses and diseases. The results will then be analyzed and conveyed to scientists to create vaccines for these diseases.

Foldit has been in existence since 2008 and there are multiple types of viruses and diseases in the game like Alzheimers and AIDS.

IMAGE: Foldit
The COVID-19 virus was added just this week where players would need to alter the proteins and bind them to spike proteins to prevent them from replicating and affecting human cells.

Foldit will award players with points based on how they modify the virus' genes. More points will be awarded based on how efficient and effective the solutions are.

There's even a scoreboard where players can compare their scores to others around the world.

The game has shown to be very effective. In 2011, players managed to help researchers decode the AIDS virus which was a problem for scientists for years.

University of Washington has stated that they will take the most effective solutions and apply them in real-world tests.

Who said gaming can't save the world?

source

gaming source: Foldit

‘Energy cards’ carry 350 times more radiation than

‘Energy cards’ carry 350 times more radiation than humans can bear

BANGKOK (ANN): The office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) has warned of excessively high levels of radiation from the so-called “energy cards” that their distributors claim can cure illnesses and help relieve aches and pains.

Tests on sample cards conducted by the state agency found radiation measuring at 40 microsieverts per hour, which is 350 times higher than the maximum exposure humans should get to radiation a year.

The agency also warned against drinking water in which an “energy card” has been dipped, as doing so raises the risk of cancer.

It said OAP would take legal action against the distributors once it has gathered enough evidence from its tests on the cards.

So far, tests have revealed that the cards contain radioactive metallic elements of uranium and thorium, as well as their “radionuclide” or radioactive isotope. X-rays showed nothing inside the cards.

The OAP warning came in the wake of media reports saying that many villagers in the Northeast had been tricked into buying these so-called energy cards from distributors, who made money from both selling the cards and recruiting new distributors as part of what appears to be a “pyramid scheme”.

The cards are being sold at Bt1,100 (RM146) to Bt1,500 (RM200) each.

Far-fetched claims The distributors claim these cards can improve the immune system, strengthen the heart and energise the user’s metabolism.

The also claim the card can purify water if it is briefly soaked in it.

OAP has advised against being exposed to the card or products that contain radioactive elements. “Using such products bring you no benefits and it’s not worth the price.

Also, you may be unnecessarily exposed to excessive radiation,” it said.

The agency also said that anyone who wants to discard these cards can contact the Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology for assistance. Ampai Sukbampoeng, manager of the institute’s Irradiation Centre, said yesterday that if the cards are disposed of improperly, they could easily contaminate the environment, as well as crops.

He suggested that local officials should collect these “energy cards” from villagers and send them to his agency for proper disposal. - The Nation/Asia News Network

Read more at https://www.thestar.com.my/news/regional/20...i0FAjIw8u5lx.99

New York teen, 18, sues Apple for $1 BILLION

TLDR version
-New York teen, 18, sues Apple for $1 BILLION after its 'Orwellian' facial recognition surveillance 'wrongly blamed him for stealing from three locations across the country'
-Osumane Bah charged for stealing from Apple stores in NY, Boston, NJ, Delaware
-But one of the thefts, in Boston, occurred when Bah was in Manhattan for prom
-Bah previously lost his learner's permit, included personal details but no photo
-He believes the thief was caught with the permit and then Apple connected the thief with Bah in its tracking software
-Bah said he was forced to respond to multiple false allegations, which led to 'severe stress and hardship'

An 18-year-old is suing Apple for a whopping $1billion, claiming he was falsely arrested and charged for a series of thefts due to Apple's facial-recognition software.

Ousmane Bah was arrested at his New York home in November at 4am and charged for stealing from Apple stores in Manhattan, Boston, New Jersey, and Delaware.

But the photo included with the arrest warrant showed a man that 'looked nothing like' the college student.

And one of the thefts, in Boston, had occurred on the same day that Bah was in Manhattan for his senior prom.

Bah had previously lost a learner's permit, which had his name, address, and other personal information but did not include a photo. The permit also stated that it was 'not meant for identification purposes'.

He believes the thief found or stole the permit and then used it as his own identification in Apple stores.

The thief was first caught stealing $1,200 worth of products from an Apple store in Boston on May 31, 2018.

The thief then stole from Apple stores in Manhattan, New Jersey, and Delaware, all the while being tracked by the company's software.

Bah said he only learned about the thefts when he received a Boston municipal court summons in June. He was then arrested by the New York Police Department on November 29.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-69...n-software.html

Former Edu. Minister says increased Indian student

Former Education Minister says increased Indian student intake not 'one-off' effort

PETALING JAYA: Umno vice president Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid refuted Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik's claim that the previous Barisan Nasional government had only made a "one-off" offer to 2,200 Indian students to undertake matriculation courses last year.

Mahdzir said Maszlee should be ashamed of making Barisan Nasional the scapegoat to cover up the ministry's failure to offer seats to many high achievers from the Indian community this year.

Mahdzir dismissed as baseless Dr Maszlee's claim that the previous government had offered an increased number of seats to Indian students last year to fill up the bumiputra quota vacancies.

"The Barisan Nasional government was committed to helping the Indian community, that was why 1,500 seats for matriculation programmes were offered to Indian students annually since 2012.

"And on April 7 last year, I had agreed to increase the quota for Indians to 2,200. This figure would have been maintained if Barisan remained in power," said Mahdzir, who was then serving as the Education Minister.

Mahdzir said this in response to Maszlee's claim that 2,200 seats were offered to Indian students last year, as there was a need to fill up bumiputra quota vacancies.

Maszlee was responding to former deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan's claim that many Indian high achievers were not offered matriculation courses this year.

Maszlee had said that meritocracy-based intake policy for 90% bumiputra and 10% non-bumiputra would be maintained this year.

In the 2019 matriculation programme, the ministry had said that 60% of seats had been allocated to students from the lower income (B40) households, and the remaining 40% were for those from middle income (M40) and high income (T20) households.

The ministry had called on the students who did not receive offers to enter matriculation to file an appeal before April 29.

Mahdzir said in the 10-year Malaysian Indian Community Action Plan launched on April 23, 2017, the previous Barisan Nasional government had promised to increase enrollment of Indian students into public universities, colleges and polytechnic institutions by at least 7%.

Mahdzir said it was not surprising to see the Indian votes swinging back in favour of Barisan Nasional as observed in the recent Rantau by-election.

"This is because the Pakatan Harapan government had failed to safeguard the interests of the Indian community," he said.

He noted that Pakatan Harapan had yet to fulfill its promise to fully fund Tamil vernacular schools, build government-funded secondary Tamil schools, increase enrollment of Indian students into boarding schools and Maktab Rendah Sains Mara.

Read more at https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2019...ZWOq6GcvJO4L.99

Over 3,000 complaints on telecommunication

Over 3,000 consumer complaints on telecommunication issues received: CFM

QUOTE

The Communications and Multimedia Consumer Forum of Malaysia (CFM) has received a total of 3,266 consumer complaints on telecommunication issues since January this year.

For January to March, the figure was 966. Then in the second quarter from April to June, CFM received 804 complaints. In the most recent quarter from July to September, CFM received the highest number of complaints so far: 1,496.

Of the top 10 issues highlighted by CFM, billing disputes made up the bulk of the complaints made by consumers in Malaysia, with 546 complaints received in all three quarters. Consumers also complained about service disruption/downtime (283), lack of coverage for high speed broadband services (269) and poor coverage of 4G with LTE (214).

Other issues raised include rebate/refund disputes (167), porting delays/rejected applications (129), poor customer service (128), getting blacklisted (114), Internet connection/speed (109), with miscellaneous issues making up the rest of the complaints.

"Telecommunications issues regarding cellular services are frequently reported by consumers followed by high speed broadband and wireless broadband services. Most complaints received are due to billing dispute and service interruption,” said CFM chairman Mohamad Yusrizal Dato’ Yusoff in a statement recorded during an annual general meeting (AGM) in Cyberjaya.

Complaints with regards to pricing is showing a significant increase as well. The number of complaints more than quadrupled from 13 in August to 64 in September this year.

This is likely due to the announcement made by Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo on the introduction of more affordable entry-level fixed broadband plans following the implementation of Mandatory Standard on Access Pricing (MSAP).

CFM said it managed to resolve 86% of the complaints issued in less than 15 days as set out in the General Consumer Code of Practice for the Communications and Multimedia Industry Malaysia (GCC). It is also urging consumers to find out more about services offered by local telecommunications companies before signing up for any plan.

Pricing should not be the only factor for consumers to commit to a plan by any service provider.

"Consumers are advised to keep themselves sufficiently informed especially in choosing telecommunications services and not to be guided solely by cheap pricing but to also check on the quality of services provided by the service providers," Mohamad Yusrizal said

Read more at https://www.thestar.com.my/tech/tech-news/2...cV4FDdLRcUBv.99

I think still not enough.
Third national car – gov't promised no public fund

https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/445956

MP SPEAKS | The government has repeatedly promised that the third national car project will be a private project and will not involve any public funds.

However, the announcement today by Entrepreneur Development Minister Mohd Redzuan Yusof that the third national car will be ready before the year 2020 and that they will finalise their partners for the project by year-end has raised concerns.

The two partners mentioned by Mohd Redzuan are Silterra and CTRM.

Silterra, which was started by Dr Mahathir Mohamad during his first term as prime minister, is wholly-owned by our sovereign fund, Khazanah Nasional.

Silterra is the second largest money-loser for Khazanah. Silterra had cumulative losses totalling RM7.3 billion for 10 years up to 2011, mostly funded by Khazanah.

CTRM appears to refer to Composites Technology Research Malaysia Sdn Bhd. If this is true, CTRM is a subsidiary of the DRB-Hicom Group owned by tycoon Syed Mokhtar, similar to Proton Bhd.

In recent years, Proton had been bailed out by the government to the tune of RM2.7 billion in soft loans and grants.

Due to their history, the emergence of these two companies now raises serious doubts over the government's promise that no public funds will be used for the third national car project.

Additionally, the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) had promised that the government will provide facilitation and assistance for the third national car project. This could mean government soft loans and other regulatory measures that could hurt consumers' interests.

Therefore, I repeat my call first made in August that the government must provide three written promises to the rakyat if they insist on continuing with the third national car project despite their self-declared RM1 trillion national debt.

Remember Perwaja Steeel?

i) No protectionism will be imposed or be given that can cause car prices to increase.

ii) There will be no bail-outs of any kind by the government either via direct loans, grants or guarantees should the third national car project run into financial problems.
iii) There should also not be any special treatment given to the privately owned third national car company nor should there be any cross-subsidy to their owners indirectly as what happened when a government fund was forced to buy a building at a very high price from the firm that had to help bail out Perwaja Steel.

Although it is the prerogative of the government to proceed with this project despite strong public opposition, the government must be held to its promise that no public funds will be used either now or in the future via bail-outs or cross-subsidies and also promise that the public interest will not be compromised.

WEE KA SIONG is member of Parliament for Ayer Hitam, Johor.

The views expressed here are those of the author/contributor and do not necessarily represent the views of Malaysiakini.

We are not going to give visas for people to come and live here,” Mahathir told reporters at a press conference.

“Our objection is because it was built for foreigners, not built for Malaysians.
Woman claims Kota Baru officials stopped her from emcee job on Islamic grounds

PETALING JAYA: A woman claims that the Kota Baru Municipal Council (MPKB) stopped her from doing her master of ceremony (emcee) job for Islamic reasons.

Ameera Aida, who is a freelancer, vented her frustrations on Twitter on Friday (March 30)saying that she was emceeing an indoor children's event, while wearing a hijab and loose crew T-shirt, when MPKB officers stopped her.

[attachmentid=9700224]

She claimed that she was told "women cannot use a microphone to speak because a woman's voice is aurat".

(For Muslims, aurat are parts of the body that should not be seen in public. However, some conservatives also consider a woman's voice to be aurat, as it could be a "temptation".)

Ameera said she had to board a bus back to Kuala Lumpur despite having paid for flight tickets and hotel rooms for the five-day job. She had only managed to work two out of the five days she was hired for.

She added MPKB's prohibition cost her a job and could affect her career if she was barred from being hired for future events.

Ameera's tweets sparked an online discussion on whether the female voice is considered aurat and whether Muslim female singers, motivational speakers, teachers, lecturers and even politicians will also be prohibited from using microphones in public.
Read more at https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2018...ebc9P3irffAJ.99

Someone butthurt report my news posting!!!
[attachmentid=9701016]
[attachmentid=9701043]

More reports!!!
[attachmentid=9701836]

Malaysian couple fined for exploiting staff at their Brisbane restaurants

PETALING JAYA: A Malaysian couple and their companies have been fined more than A$200,000 (over RM670,000) for exploiting Malaysian and Taiwanese workers at their three Japanese restaurants in Brisbane, Australia, said a report on SBS.com.

The report said Lee Wee Song and Siew Lay Yeoh, who were fined A$40,500 (RM137,300) and A$32,400 (RM109,800) respectively, were found to have underpaid five visa-holding workers at their Teppanyaki Lovers and Nigi Nigi restaurants in the Brisbane CBD, and Ku-O in the suburb of Sunnybank.

Their companies, Tsuyoetsu Pty Ltd and Taikuken Pty Ltd, were fined A$99,000 (RM335,600) and A$29,200 (RM99,000), respectively.

The report said the five workers, who have student, bridging and partner visas, were paid as little as A$10 per hour. Australia's minimum wage is A$17.70 per hour. It is not known how many are Malaysians.

They were underpaid between A$13,880 (RM47,000) and A$45,182 (RM153,200) each (totalling A$148,710) between November 2011 and October 2014.

The report said that Judge Salvatore Vasta, who imposed the fines in the Federal Circuit Court on Monday, said the fact that both the accused had exploited employees of a similar cultural background was particularly disturbing.

The judge reportedly said that "it would seem that if someone from a particular culture comes to Australia and is employed by somebody else from the same background, there would be an automatic level of trust and comfort in that fact."

"There is an obligation on them to ensure that workers from a similar culture to the employers are not exploited," he said.

The report quoted Fair Work Ombudsman Natalie James as saying that overseas workers were entitled to the same pay as Australians.

In their submission, the accused said they had little business experience in Australia and were naive about how to set up a business in the country.

But the judge disagreed, saying "it does seem that for people with a level of naivety, they were able to set up one business and then incorporate and set up another business and then incorporate and set up a third business, so the level of naivety has to be seen in that light."

SBS has contacted the owners for comment.

Read more at http://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2017...xFwF3Yi8HiMW.99

Seem like underpaid budaya kita but these 2 bring the budaya to overseas!!!!
a blend that uses 10% palm oil

http://www.thestar.com.my/Business/Busines...plan/?style=biz

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW AG just tossed a wrench into plans by Malaysia to boost its biofuel programme.

A drive to introduce a blend that uses 10% palm oil, up from 7%, risks causing severe engine damage, according to BMW Group Malaysia.

The largest palm producer after Indonesia promotes the crop for use in foods and energy, and has been stepping up the amount that’s blended into local fuels. Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this week the so-called B10 programme would be implemented from October.

“In our tests with B10 biodiesel worldwide, we have found technical challenges,” BMW Group Malaysia managing director and chief executive officer Alan Harris said in a statement.

Checks found that palm’s fatty-acid methyl ester could thin motor oil, which led to oil sludge and reduced lubricity with the risk of severe engine damage, Harris said.

The current diesel engines in Malaysia were well-suited to run on B7 levels of biodiesel, Harris said. Uggah’s ministry should take into account the opinion of the Malaysian automotive industry before implementing B10, he said.

The introduction of the B10 variety needs further consideration, according to Mercedes-Benz AG. The company’s diesel-powered vehicles could use up to 7% biodiesel, while the Fuso truck models were fitted to take a maximum 5% blend, Roland S. Folger, president of the company’s local unit, said in an e-mailed reply to questions.

“We are going to engage talks with MPOB (Malaysian Palm Oil Board) and bring automotive players deeper into the discussion,” said Malaysia Automotive Institute chief executive officer Mohd Madani Sahari. “Automotive-industry players have said it’s not compatible in the past two to three years.”

The Government was in the midst of consultations on the B10 mandate, Uggah said in Bangi yesterday. With B10 in place, consumption of palm would rise to 1 million tonnes from about 700,000 with B7, he said.

“We’re taking note of the comment by BMW,” Uggah told reporters. “At the same time, we hope they understand the need for us to have some mechanism to assist the palm oil industry. Of course, if that mechanism is causing issues, we’ll sit down and discuss how these issues can be resolved.” – Bloomberg

Syok sendiri want to implement B10 when the whole world automotive industries also not ready.

GST all prices rise on April 1

Just now was shopping at Giant. Watching 2 worker arranging price tags.

Long story short. They put 2 price tags together. Old tag (B4 GST) above the new one (After GST) so you can only see the old price tag. Only old price tag WITH a right tick marking on it had new price tag below it. (The marking may defer for different Giant store, not sure about that). In order to know the price of the item after GST, just flip the old price tag to see the new price tag. You will see the prices of the item after GST. They are putting this 2 price tags so that they can changes the prices quickly on April 1. They just had to remove the old price tag to reveal the new price tag.

Almost all items that I checked increase in prices. Some just a few % increase (3-4%) while some had a full 6% increase in it. So the theory that GST only replace SST so prices will go down is totally WRONG.
Any of you shopping at Giant now can confirm this.

So you must thank the BN supporter for the prices increase. CUKUR.....
