Microsoft 3RROD - 3 Years Warranty

Hi folks , I just come across Microsoft Website

QUOTE

While the majority of Xbox 360 owners continue to have a great experience with their console, we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported receiving an error that displays “E74” on their screen. After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007. We have already made improvements to the console that will reduce the likelihood of an occurrence of this issue. Detailed information related to the Xbox 360 warranty and resources for those who require repair can be found at www.xbox.com/support.

Microsoft will refund to customers the amount paid for an out of warranty repair due to a general hardware failure associated with the e74 error message. Those customers should automatically receive the refund within 4-12 weeks, and no additional action by customers should be necessary. However, if a customer has not received a refund by July 1, 2009, the customer should visit www.xbox.com/support before November 1, 2009 for information on how to place a claim. All refund claims must be received on or before November 1, 2009.’ For more information about troubleshooting the E74 error message, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
941377 Your Xbox 360 console receives the error message E74

source -- > http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969905

sorry if this is an old news and wonder this apply to SG set as well

[Guide] How to Deal with PS2 Read Disc Error

The purpose of this guide is to give an overall idea on how to fix [not 100% works] a PS2 that have problem keep showing up Read Disc Error message.
This guide only apply to 3XXXX to 5XXXX series.
Please make sure you know what are you doing and may the force be with you.

The First Phase
Unplug all power cable before start to disassemble the console.
Tools you need just a screw driver as picture below

Now in order to take out all the screw , you gotta take out the rubber feet and square tabs.

After remove all the tabs , it will be something like picture below

Now Flip it over and you can take out the cover. BECAREFUL when take out the cover as the power on cable is attach between the motherboard and the cover.

Now use a smaller screw driver ( the one we use to fix our glasses ) to take out screws that circled in red.

Take out the cover and it will look like picture below.

The Second Phase

Now power on back your console and eject the tray out. Remember , safely first. After you eject the tray, it will look like picture below.

Now, turn off PS2 power by direct shut down the power. So now the tray still in eject position and the power have been taken out. Look for the white gear that circle in red , like picture below.

This is the white gear we looking for all this while.

The Third Phase
Now comes the important part

QUOTE

You'll notice there's a white disc behind the lens that is circled in yellow with a red mark on it. This is a gear that adjusts the level of the lens. Don't touch it! Grab your felt-tip marker and mark the original position. If you're looking at the unit from the front, the left edge of the gear will be touching a silver plate, about where that red line is. Put a little mark perpendicular to this. If all else fails, you can always go back to this spot and it won't be any worse off than before.

Turn the gear clockwise a little bit. You will notice the lens rising a bit, as every clockwise turn raises the lens. Once you reach a certain point, however, the lens will drop all the way to the bottom and start moving up again. Thankfully, Sony was sane and the range of movement is exactly one turn of the gear. This means you'll always be able to return the gear to its starting position. Turn the gear clockwise until you hear a click and see the lens drop to the bottom.

As a side note, this is where I depart from other repair FAQ's. They always suggest adjusting the lens from where you find it, but starting at the bottom seems to give you the best chance of finding the real sweet spot for the lens.

*source

This method is what we called as tuning or tweaking.
Now put a PS2 disc and put back the small black little cover. Power on the console. See if the game boot or not. If the result is positive, congratulation, you success fix your PS2 . Assemble back all the parts and enjoy your gaming
If the result is negetive, keep make some little adjustment of the white gear just like what you did in the second phase. This might take some patient

For more detailed instruction, click on the source below

source
http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars/1
http://www.g4tv.com/xplay/features/45797/P..._Error_Fix.html

Normally , Sungai Wang shops will charge you around RM80 for this fix

Hope this help

GameCube, PS2 and XBOX

Since I see so-so-so many threads about asking which console is better, i guess we should create a thread that discuss all 3 consoles togethre under one roof.

First start off with its price.

Average GameCube should not cost then RM450 since US retail price is only USD$99

Average Playstation 2 (PS2) should cost not more then RM850

Average XBOX should cost not more then RM850. When getting XBOX, they come in a different so called package. I guess it is a gimick from Microsoft.

The standard package come with 1 orginal controller and the console is in black color. The package should cost not more then RM750

Then Microsoft also release White Crystal Edition where you will get 2 controller in trasparent white color and of course, the console also in trasparent white color. This package should not cost more then RM850

Some package also come with 1 or 3 free orginal games like Tetris online (and some other not so popular games. Sorry, i forgot those games title... )

i guess it have a lots to write about all this 3 games console. Maybe i think i should let other members help me out and please correct me if i am wrong.
