Woman From China Surprised To See That People In Malaysia Aren’t “Dirty & Poor”

At that time, the lady had been living in Shenzhen, China. She had been pretty happy living there, however, her friend’s lifestyle in Malaysia soon attracted her attention. “I had a friend three years ago. He brought his kids to live and study in Kuala Lumpur,” she explained. “I thought his life (in KL) was very good.”

The lady added that she would often ask him questions about living in Kuala Lumpur. “It was so good, and (his) kids also took English classes, (their) English was good. And (they) also learned the piano and other talents,” she said. After a year of her asking questions, her friend finally reached the end of his rope. “You keep asking me (questions) every single day. Can’t you buy a ticket and come (to KL) yourself?” he asked her.

“Actually, I didn’t have (a clue) about Kuala Lumpur before. My impression of Malaysia was that it seemed to be dirty, messy, (with many) poor (people), and (you) can’t get enough to eat (here),” the lady admitted. “I thought there was nowhere better than Shenzhen. So, I thought at the time, “Malaysia must be very bad. I can’t go there”.”

However, a year later, her friend convinced her to visit. And to her surprise, Malaysia was not like she had imagined. “The greenery was good and the climate is actually similar to Shenzhen’s,” she stated, adding that she felt Malaysia was actually less humid as well. “So, I fell in love with this city at once.”

She also felt like she hadn’t actually gone abroad, since the living conditions were similar to her hometown. Also, there was no real language barrier as she could use Mandarin to communicate with the local Chinese here. In fact, she felt it was such a nice place, she decided to make Malaysia her second home with the Malaysia My Second Home programme.

To her Malaysia was also the best place to bring up her kids, especially in terms of international education. She felt that international schools in Kuala Lumpur were extremely inclusive as they had a Western education system, but maintained their Chinese cultural education. “It’s a good place for Asians, especially Chinese people, to come for studies,” she stated.

However, not everyone back home agreed with her views. She shared that she had friends who often questioned her choice of location and suggested other countries like Australia, Singapore, the US and the UK. She admitted she had considered moving to Singapore.

But, as it was notoriously difficult to gain a visa in Singapore, she decided against it, especially when she factored in her elderly parents. Thailand had also been a country she considered. However, language had been the deciding factor there as she wanted her kids to learn English well.

Her favourite change in Malaysia however is that her children are much happier and more self-confident now. “I didn’t expect (my child) to come home (from school) after the first week to tell me, “Mom, I’m really happy” she shared. “And in the second week, he said, “Mom, I joined the school’s debate team”.” She ended the video with: “I think if you want your child to have international education, or want them to study happily, you can confidently bring your child to Kuala Lumpur. You can’t go wrong!”

A video of a father in China distracted by his phone while caring for his baby son not noticing his child had been playing with his faeces has had more than 220 million views on Weibo.

“The baby was pooping, playing with, and even eating his own faeces right next to him, but he didn’t notice it until five minutes later,” she said.

“The baby kept looking at him the entire time, but he didn’t sense anything was wrong.”

One commenter noticed the baby’s reaction in the video said: “The child took a bite, frowned and shivered.”

While many who watched the video found it amusing, a lot of people were outraged, with many accusing the father of being “careless and irresponsible”.

‘Blood slave’ kidnapped by Chinese crime gang in Cambodia drained for months and threatened with organ harvesting

According to Cambodia-based Chinese-language newspaper Asia Pacific Times, Li, a 31-year-old from eastern Jiangsu province in China, had 800ml of blood taken from him every month since August last year. The blood was most likely sold to private buyers online, reported the paper.

As a result of the ordeal Li’s arms are covered with bruises and marks from needles. So much blood had been drained from Li that on the last occasion of drawing blood the nurse had to take blood from his head after the veins in his arms failed to yield sufficient blood.

When he was admitted to hospital on February 12, Li was on the verge of death with multiple organ failures, the paper’s report said.

Li said one of the gang members threatened him by saying that if they could not take blood from his body, he would be sold to organ harvesters, the Asia Pacific Times reported. He said gang members often used electric prods to beat him and other captives.

He said he saw at least seven other men detained in a large room. Li said the other men didn’t have their blood taken as much as he did because his blood is type O, a universal blood type. He said the “doctor” who first tested his blood remarked: “Your type O blood is quite valuable!”

Li had worked as a security guard in Shenzhen and Beijing before being lured to the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in southern China by a fake job advertisement. Once there he was abducted by a gang who took him to the China-Vietnam border and forced him to cross at gunpoint.

He was first taken to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam and then to Sihanoukville in Cambodia by ship. He was then sold to another gang running an online fraud company for US$18,500, said Li.

“From top managers to HR staff [of this company] are all Chinese. They treat us coldly,” Li said, adding that they regarded him and other victims as “tools for making money”.

A Chinese man operating a social media account that highlights crime affecting Chinese citizens’ in Cambodia told the Chutian Metropolis News that the kidnapping and use of “blood slaves” is not uncommon in Cambodia.

Hong Kong singer Karen Mok has apologised after an outfit she wore in a new music video caused a backlash in China.

Mok, 51, held her Karen Mok The Ultimate Grand Slam Show concert in Hong Kong over the weekend. She launched her new album The Voyage last week, which contained Woman For All Seasons, a reissue of her 2001 song of the same name.

In the music video for the new song, Mok was seen wearing a bathrobe from Italian luxury brand Dolce & Gabbana (D&G). She also used the photo of her in the robe as her profile picture on Weibo, the Chinese micro-blogging site.

The move caused a backlash in China, where many had been angered by a 2018 D&G campaign they viewed as culturally insensitive. Several Chinese netizens demanded to know why Mok was promoting such a brand, while others even called for a boycott of the singer. The topic trended on Weibo for several hours on Saturday (June 12).

Mok has since removed photos of her wearing the D&G outfit from her social media accounts and the music video from all platforms. Her agency and the designer involved in the outfit also apologised on Weibo.

D&G caused outrage in China in late 2018 when clips from its advertising campaign showed a Chinese model in a red D&G dress struggling to eat Italian foods such as spaghetti and cannoli pastry with chopsticks. The backlash escalated after screenshots of messages sent from D&G co-founder Stefano Gabbana's Instagram account were leaked, in which he allegedly said negative things about China. No doubt China as a country is the 2nd richest in terms of Nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Taiwan as a country is around 21st place in terms of GDP. Obviously, Taiwan loses in terms of GDP. It is important to note that China has a population of approximately 1.44 billion while Taiwan has a population of approximately 23.86 million. For easy comparison sake, I have included Malaysia.
