I wanted to buy 1. My first smart tag lasts for 10 years +.. my second smart tag bought in 2014, only last around 1 year. later in 2015 bought another 1 but only last for 1 year + too.. the one i bought in 2015 very problematic. too many failure and battery hog.. never use it since then..

so its been a while and i was thinking to buy one.. the latest model, are as good as the first model? or should i buy the older version one? which version is the best and most reliable?

Hi lyn members,

For those who do not have time to read all this, you can skip to the ending question part.

I'm currently a TMnet Streamyx subscriber
Currently using TP Link W8961N as modem router.
Number for device connected to router 15 - 20 devices incl pc, lappy, phones and game consoles.

My Problem :

Internet connection often drops. Got no issue between pc/device and router's connection. but the internet itself keeps disconnecting.. sometimes the internet got down just 1 min after connected to the internet.. but sometimes no connection issue up to 7 - 9 hours.
Reported to TMnet and they said that the problem is caused by the modem router, its faulty. need to change my modem. Its the modem faulty or because of too many device connected to the wifi that cause the modem router to jam? here is my line status on modem router :

Downstream/Upstream
SNR Margin : 31.0/ 19.0 db
Line Attenuation : 0.5/ 3.0 db
Data Rate : 2048/ 512 kbps
Max Rate : 4960 / 1096 kbps
CRC : 0/ 0

So if i need to buy a modem router, what brand and model would be the best that can avoid this problem? Is Asus, D-Link or TP Link? What brand is the best? because i searched in the forum, some said to avoid TP link, some said to avoid D-link, some even said best to avoid Belkin too. I heard Belkin has the ability to stabilize connection and reduce jam-data clog (not sure what is it, but it seems to be a good thing). Those mixed up reviews from users confuses me what brand to buy. Im afraid that this problem still persist. Do provide your suggestion with the model type.

Hi lowyat users,

I am currently using single band 2.5 ghz router with streamyx. I have been using this router for like a year and these are some problems that occurs :

1. Played multiplayer games (PC - PC) trough W-LAN but experience quite a delay, high latency and often gets disconnected while playing.
2. Yesterday i was trying to use AirPlay (Transmitting / playing HD music videos on my phone to my HD TV) and still experience the same issue. Crappy quality & the delay is very obvious. even sometimes it just hangs & tries to reconnect with the phone.

So, from what i've googled, it might be the router issue where they need to be upgraded to dual band router that supports 5Ghz frequency. From what i've red, this dual band router should fix the latency and the delay issue.

I just want to re-confirm with lyn users,

a. Is this dual band router can fix this latency and delay issue?
b. After upgrade my router, i need to buy pc adapter that supports dual band frequency too right?
c. below are the router and pc adapter that i would like to buy. suggest me if you got any other recommendation.

Problem details
First occurence of problem: yesterday.
Problem frequency: Frequent. every 10 mins.
Problem description: Disconnected. DSL lights turns off (line dropped) every 10 - 20 mins..

I have read some thread this may related to my connection/ line stability. So ive checked with the SNR Margin and Line Attenuation and these are my results :

SNR Margin : 38.3 db
Line Attenuation :10.9 db
Data Rate :2048 kbps
Max Rate :22112 kbps
POWER :19.2 dbm
CRC :0

refferring to this thread (http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/222851) it shows that my connection should be ok because the status of SNR margin n line attenuation is at outstanding level. So, any workaround to solve this problem?

what i've tried but still no luck:
1. Restart my router/ modem a couple times.
2. Change the wifi channel.
3. Turn off any p2p connection
4. Disable all port forwarding.
5. Tried using other modem (without wifi/ router) - direct LAN modem to PC.
