Any Huawei Matebook X Pro owner?

I have a question for Huawei Matebook X Pro owner.

Recently I brought a Huawei Matebook X Pro i7 variant. It's working excellently and I'm having good time using it everyday. The little issue I have is whenever I plug in the USB C charger (original or 3rd party) while my foot is naked on the floor I can feel kind of like electrostatic discharge on the aluminium chassis. It's not sparking discharge, more like vibration. When I move my finger across the aluminium chassis I can feel it. If I just touching it without moving my finger I can't feel that. Or if I am wearing my shoes or I un-ground myself by no touching the ground then the vibration or discharge feeling disappear. It more noticeable on the upper panel near by the USB C charging port.

Would like to know if you are having the same experience.

WiFi repeater mode (WDS) speed penalty

WiFi repeater mode will usually suffer 1/2 (half) of the wireless connection speed via WDS (Wireless Distribution System). I guess it's because it create 2 difference working environment for connecting to a AP (access point) and redistributing again as another AP at the same time. Not diving too deep into the science as I am just a typical user.

But what happen if,

1. The bandwidth available from source AP is very limited (3-8 Mbps). It's way too little to saturate the available bandwidth from a typical WiFi N repeater. Does it still suffer the penalty?

2. I avoid connecting to the wireless repeater via WiFi. I connect via Ethernet cable only. Does it still suffer the penalty?

My indention is just to have a WiFi dongle with Ethernet port (rather then USB) that I wanted to create a bridge to 2 difference network (across a street). I already had tested it by using my old Dlink DIR-505 wall plug extender (repeater).

Originally I brought a TP-Link TL-WA901ND with 3 TL-ANT2409A directional antenna to finish the job because TL-WA901ND have a "Client mode" which fit into my need perfectly. But it's having serious connection issue connecting to outdoor AP that are farther away.

So I may be getting an ASUS RT-N12 D1 but it only support wireless repeater mode. It still get the job done i guess (same as DIR-505). Just wanted to avoid the repeater mode connection speed reduction.

PureVPN facing short duration connection drop

Subscribed PureVPN for 2 years plan. Use for 3 weeks and started off without much issue. But this few days I am facing sudden drop of connection when connecting to PureVPN Malaysia, Singapore or Taiwan VPN server. The OpenVPN connection are still alive, it wasn't disconnected. Just within a few sec (around 5 secs) suddenly like no respond from the connection. No traffic can be send or receive. Then it resume back normal like nothing happen. I don't know how to describe the scenario so I just call it drop connection.

I know that's not a problem from my end because I am also using FinchVPN. That's rock solid, so far I never have connection drop from it. Just sometime server will offline. I just make a new connection again to other available server.

I have been contacting PureVPN support which is very helpful and try troubleshot with me but can't solve the issue. They didn't say anything about the condition of their server so I assume it should be fine.

I wonder if anyone here using PureVPN with uniFi facing the same drop connection problem.

Here's the quality graph showing the drop connection happen twice in just one hour which is very lucky. Usually it drop like 30 times in just 1 hour.

Very unstable respond time (ping/ms) this afternoon. Garena games with over 200++ms ping. Anyone facing same issue? I am on Streamyx.

Digi SmartPlan speed cap within quota limit

I am a first adopter of DIGI Nexus4 offer. RM1499 with SmartPlan RM88 8GB (offer at RM68 per month). Previously on DIGI SmartPlan RM68 3GB.

Here's the quota detail,

After using for 1 month I discover that the speed was actually capped at around 1Mbps. Before I upgrade to the new SmartPlan I can achieve usually around 3-4Mbps with my old HTC Desire HD. Now after upgrade to the new SmartPlan I was capped only around 1Mbps.

I have a old Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 which was using a DIGI Tablet Plan RM19 1GB. The Tablet Plan can go up to 5Mbps at the same place at the same time.

I call DIGI Customer Service about the issue and was told that Tablet Plan was actually broadband package and will be faster then the SmartPlan. This mean DIGI was purposely slow down (cap) on SmartPlan and give way to their broadband package. By the way both of my SmartPlan and Tablet Plan was using the same APN "diginet".

I personally feel that this is unfair consider that SmartPlan customer or Broadband customer was allocated with quota (FUP per month) on whatever packages that we taken and paying for the same amount of money. Why would the broadband package run faster speed then the SmartPlan package. And consider also that we were allocated with quota that we can consume under the FUP and yet our speed was cap before the quota was fully consume. (as display above I haven't start using any of my allocation yet)

I was also not been told that my speed was actually going to be slower when I subscribe the new 8GB SmartPlan. What use of the higher quota if the speed was slower. 8GB quota for Facebook Text-ing and sending email?

For those future LYN member that was planning to sign up for new DIGI SmartPlan please take consideration on this issue. Don't be like me which had another 2 years to live with 1Mbps SmartPlan. Consider getting a smaller tier on SmartPlan and get a bigger broadband package if you would prefer to stick with DIGI.

Heavy throttle on international traffic?

Heavy throttle on international link on peak or there was just isn't available bandwidth to share by Streamyx user?

I did a speedtest at morning 7am today (09 Dec 2011) and here's the result.

I did another speedtest by selecting Scranton PA because both my VPS are there.

The result was very good indeed.

Then I do another speedtest at the afternoon 3.45pm the same day and here's the result.

No joke. How come the difference was so large.

I did another test on my own to make sure speedtest didn't screw up.

I download an ATI driver at my VPS and rename it to some unknown file to avoid proxy or anything. Then I download the file by FTP to confirm the speed to my server.

I notice changes on the server address where Youtube video was stream.

Could the additional server address in front of the original Youtube server address was Streamxy's local cache server?

safebrowsing-cache.google.com taking up bandwidth

I using a proxy server at my work places (HTTP only). The proxy was use to save bandwidth especially on youtube (installed third party cacheboy process) so that anyone who play the same youtube video on the 2nd times and above the youtube video will be serve from the proxy cache. It also save bandwidth when browsing website (as it's a HTTP proxy at the first place).

Yesterday I was looking at the Proxy record of the Top Sites been access and at first I thought it should be Facebook. But it shocked me that it was safebrowsing-cache.google.com. It wasn't the most connect site but it's taking an incredible amount of bandwidth (66.9GBytes). The proxy is on from 05 April 2010 till 12 Nov 2010 (roughly 8 months 8 days).

I google the safebrowsing-cache.google.com and it's a service from Google that helps fighting the spam and phishing sites by blocking them in the browser. I was wondering why is service like this would take such a huge bandwidth. I would like to ask opinion from other admin that if I block this website (safebrowsing-cache.google.com) would it bring any safety issue?

By the way the proxy is connected to 2 Streamyx 1Mbps SOHO.
