Air India 171 crash preliminary report is out

Preliminary report for Air India is out. Here are main excerpts:

- 08:08:42: Engine 1 and Engine 2 fuel cutoff switches transitioned from RUN to CUTOFF position one after another with a time gap of 01 sec

- In the cockpit voice recording, one of the pilots is heard asking the other why did he cutoff.
The other pilot responded that he did not do so.

- 08:08:52: Engine 1 fuel cutoff switch transitioned from CUTOFF to RUN

- 08:08:56: the Engine 2 fuel cutoff switch also
transitions from CUTOFF to RUN

The EGT was observed to be rising for both engines indicating relight. Engine 1’s core
deceleration stopped, reversed and started to progress to recovery. Engine 2 was able to
relight but could not arrest core speed deceleration and re-introduced fuel repeatedly to
increase core speed acceleration and recovery.

- The EAFR recording stopped at 08:09:11

Lufthansa Cargo Grounds 2 Airbus 737MAX After Cracks Found In Fuselage

German flag carrier Lufthansa has grounded two of its Boeing A321-200P2Fs after reportedly discovering a crack in their aft fuselage, prompting concerns for the conversion design. The grounding of Lufthansa’s freighters is the first for the aircraft type.

Lufthansa currently operates a fleet of four of the converted Airbus narrowbody freighter, first taking delivery of the type in January 2022. The four aircraft vary in age between 11 and 20 years old, entering service with Niki, Air Jamaica, and Air Berlin in passenger service before being converted by Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW). After discovering the cracks in early December, Lufthansa temporarily grounded all four A321P2Fs during a peak season for air cargo traffic, before returning two of its aircraft to service, according to a local report.

At press time, the 15-year-old D-AEUC had remained parked in Serbia since December 26th, while the 11-year-old D-AEUI had remained parked in Frankfurt since January 9th, according to data from Flightradar.

Apabila tersiar berita bahawa pesawat Beechcraft 390 Premier 1 dengan nombor pendaftaran N28JV hanya dilengkapi Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) dan tidak dilengkapi dengan Flight Data Recorder (FDR), rata-rata ada netizen yang buta bab penerbangan dengan segera menyalah pihak berkuasa negara berkaitan penerbangan iaitu CAAM dan syarikat pemilik pesawat kerana gagal memastikan FDR itu dipasang pada pesawat.

Ada juga yang menuduh pesawat itu telah melanggar peraturan penerbangan.

Dukacita untuk dimaklumkan kepada para penuduh, anda semua salah sama sekali.

Ini kerana menurut peraturan daripada Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) dan International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), pesawat tersebut tidak diwajibkan untuk dipasang dengan FDR.

Peraturan daripada FAA menetapkan FDR hanya wajib dipasang untuk pesawat multi-engine turbine-powered (lebih daripada dua enjin), yang dibina selepas 11 October 1991, dengan kapasiti membawa lebih daripada 10 penumpang. Pesawat malang N28JV tersebut hanya berkapasiti 6 orang penumpang sahaja.

Peraturan daripada ICAO pula menyatakan FDR wajib dipasang pada pesawat dengan berat berlepas maksimum melebihi 5700kg (12,566 lbs). Pesawat N28JV berat berlepas maksimum ialah 5670kg (12,500 lbs).

So kalau korang fikir hanya pesawat ni sahaja yang takde FDR, sekali lagi korang silap. Ada banyak pesawat jenis sebegini diseluruh dunia yang tak dipasang dengan FDR. Peraturan tidak mewajibkan FDR untuk dipasang, hanya disarankan sahaja oleh FAA dan ICAO. Namun oleh kerana kos pemasangan FDR amat tinggi dan mahal, operator memilih untuk tidak memasang FDR dan hanya memasang CVR.

Need help regarding part time study

Due to economic crisis caused by Covid,I am now having difficulty with my job now.With too much pay cut i can barely survive now but I have side income.I am thinking about career change.My highest qualification is only 'license' .. something like professional cert since it's the requirement of my job..
I am thinking about taking part time degree since i have just completed my Advance Diploma under SKM (Engineering)

1)Is there any financial institution that provides funds for me to take part time study?
2)if i want to take degree master etc must it be MQA approved?if not will employer check it anyway?

RESTRICTION ON THE DEMONSTRATION TEST FLIGHT
OF UAS E-HANG 216

PUTRAJAYA – The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) would like to announce that the planned test flight of UAS E-Hang 216 (EH216) scheduled for 21st November 2019 has not been authorized by CAAM.

The location of the test flight at the UNIKL MIAT Hangar Subang is less than 200 meters away from commercial airline and helicopter traffic and clearly within the Subang Airport Terminal Control Zone that is under strict supervision by Air Traffic Control.

In addition to this, the EH216 was only issued a Special Flight Permit (SFP) by its State of Design (Civil Aviation Administration of China) which is limited to conduct Research & Development Flights in Grand World Science Park, Guangzhou.

CAAM is also carrying out an investigation into the unauthorized demonstration flight involving an EH216 on 15th November 2019 at the same area within Subang Airport.

As much as CAAM supports the development of the aerospace industry in Malaysia, test and demonstration flights must be carried out in accordance with the Malaysian Civil Aviation Regulation 2016 (MCAR 2016) to ensure safety.

CAAM would also like to state that we are open to consider the request for a test flight of the EH216 at an appropriate location, and with the support of the aircraft’s State of Design.
