Team[AU] AMD Extreme Overclocking Demo

Thought I would start a new thread, and include a few pics etc.....

Earlier in December I was invited by AMD and Asus to participate in an overclocking workshop / extreme demo at the KLCC PC Fair

The idea, to run 3 workshops to show people the basics of overclocking on air, then finish each with a demonstration using LN2.

AMD Malaysia very kindly provided me with two retail FX8150's for the event, ASUS Malaysia provided me two Crosshair V motherboards and a 6990, and Kingston also came to the party with 2 kits of HyperX DDR3 1600 CL9 Memory and 2 crazy fast HyperX SSD's.

I basically had just over a week to test the setups before the event - but rocked up Saturday complete with a really bad head cold and ready to go

Glad I had two setups prepped, as with workshops at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm - no sooner had I stripped the LN2 rig down and dried everything out, it was time to start again. Alternating the rigs on LN2 at least gave them a bit of time to recover from the thrashing just an hour before

Backed everything off from the max runs I had done at home (just to make sure that it wasnt a workshop with nothing but blue screens ) and had a pretty smooth time over all the sessions that were run

I picked 3dmark05 for the demo as it really scales well with CPU speed increases, and was able to bench at 5g easy on air (all cores), 6.2g easy on LN2 (all cores) and 7.1g easy on LN2 (2 cores only). Max cpu speed on the day was 7.8g - but I need to come back and spend some time on this - hadnt really tested too much prior to the event as I didnt want to kill anything in advance

Was a pretty good turn out of visitors on the day, and I have included a few photos and screen shots below. My drive backup with all my screenshots seems to be having a few issues so there is a mix of screens from the day (with 6990) as well as my testing before (using 5870).....

Was also great to meet a few of the local overclockers on the day - know many via the forums but never met in person before. Finally got to meet Coolice, Sanko and Kunta for the first time and also managed to catch up with Superfly for the first time in almost a year

Really enjoyed the event, and thanks again to AMD, ASUS and Kingston for the invite to play with all these toys!!

[TEAM.AU] Benching Weekend with the Boys

Thought I would share our crazy 3 day benching session from a couple of weeks ago - hopefully we can organise something similar in Malaysia some time soon

TeamAU boys, deanzo, T_M, dinos22, youngpro, unclefester and bob(nz) got together a week ago and did some benching with lots of different hardware. 500L of LN2 was on tap in the basement.

Dino has put together a bunch of scores, photos and videos with us having some fun. Hope ya like it

3DMARK05: 57,705 (fastest dual card 05)

Deanzo, T_M, dinos22 & bob(nz) benching. We struggled a bit with the dual cards as we really just started learning how to clock these CU2s. We even backed off on CPU OC just in case but it turned out that one of the 580s had issues with high vmem speeds (ie 2400 or more lol) but the result was very satisfactory for us regardless as we cracked the record and got a nice GT3 as well :up:

This made it onto the livestream as well, listen to the scream after the score pops up :rofl:. In our defence it takes a while to actually learn how to get these GPUs going and to finally see it come off was a good reward. Would have been nice to pre-test GPUs before we get together but it wasn't possible. There is always next time

The GIGABYTE X58A-OC board and my chip were humming along all weekend at its 6.5GHz duties

We've also got a 57,040 score in pre-testing so there is more in this one. Hopefully bob(nz) can give his setup a big push soon as his card was promising (must have slipped through andre yangs binning fingers and made it into retail packaging hahah)

Maybe Andre can spot the odd one out (purchased retail from USA)

GTX 580 Testing

Well, finally managed to get some decent benching in yesterday - testing my GTX 580 cards on air before going sub-zero in a couple of weeks

My new(ish)retail 980X is going pretty well - benching 3D03 / 05 at 6050 using only 1.8V in bios. CPU temp -115/-120. Batch is 3013A5xx

GTX580 Cards are doing pretty well on air - maxing out at 950+ / 1150 with GPUV @ 1.1V only. Temps not going above 75 degrees C

3DM03 Single Card 119k

3DM03 Dual Card 174k

3DM05 Single Card 50k

AQ3 Single Card 411k

And a screenshot just for good measure.....

Need to do some work on the efficiency of these runs (memory speed / NB speed) and will then try some higher volts and other benchmark runs

Alex (Sup3rfly) and I have a day benching session organised in a couple of weeks - so will prep these cards for LN2 over the next couple of weeks With around 70ltrs of LN2 available we should have a blast
