iBook start up problem

Yesterday evening when I switch on my G4 iBook, it boot-up with the Apple logo....and then...just froze

I tried my disk utility and it sensed that there is a hard disk error on my mac. I bought it about 2 years ago. So I guess no more warranty cover for me.

* Is it possible that my hard disk has gone kaput

* Is there anything else I could possibly do, formatting etc ?....But if it comes to replacement, how much is a new hard disk going to cost me.

* Has anybody experienced such similiar hard disk failure before ? I only use my iBook at home not that regularly, how can something like this happen

Any feedback is most welcome...Thanks
