FAKE iPad2 ! DroidApple ! PICS UP !

It finally happens ! That was QUICK !!!!
Check it out

Those who love the iPad 2 but aren’t willing to spend US$499 to get one can turn to imitations. These fake products generally not too high-quality, but they’re getting better and better by the day (literally, since there are so many).

This new device sports the same 9.7-inch 1024 X 768 screen, Wi-Fi connection and front and rear cameras. It also has the same metal enclosure (although likely not made out of aluminum, to cut down costs) and the black bezel iPad fans have come to know. On the surface, it’s essentially an iPad 2 without the Apple logo or nomenclature.

The similarities stop right there, however. Unlike the iPad 2′s respectable specifications (512 MB of RAM and a 1GHz A5 processor), this knockoff cuts the RAM in half, to 256 MB, and the processor is 800MHz, similar to the one found on the original iPad (although, of course, not an A4). Probably the biggest downside is its screen: unlike the iPad’s capacitive screen, the one built into this knockoff is resistive, meaning it’s nowhere near as sensitive to the touch and would be more suitable to be used with a stylus (or your fingernails). Said screen is allegedly not as bright or crisp as the one found on the real device, all of that expected for a device of this kind.

This imitation is running Android 2.2 (Froyo), which is showing its age as well. Most Android tablets nowadays are bundled with Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) since it features a new user interface made specifically for tablets. It’s unclear why an old version of Android was built into this device, but that’s a fair price to pay when for getting a cheap knockoff.

There are also smaller differences, such as the placement of the headphone jack: while it’s placed at the top on the iPad, it’s placed at the bottom on this fake knockoff. The front-facing camera is also placed on the upper-right side of the screen, while it’s placed dead center on the iPad 2.

You likely won’t have much luck picking this up at your local electronics store, but it’s already available in China. If you’re lucky enough to be able to pick these up, you’ll be able to do so for 700 yuan (about $108). Would you sacrifice quality just to get an iPad-looking knockoff?

Fake Smart Cover !

Buyers beware

Yesterday while sitting at cafe playing with an ipad , a guy approached me and offered to sell be 2 Smart Cover with it @ Rm120 each. He pointed to the Machines store and said he bought the wrong color for his girlfriend and so was selling it cheap.
So i asked him to take a seat, began to examine the cover to confirm its new and never been used .Everything looks fine on the outside but when i opened the package (Luckily!) only then i knew it was a fake !

Revised -------------12/5/11

How to spot the latest Fakes ! Ver 2.01

Seems like every mistake to the FAKE pointed out in Ver 1.01 has been eliminated from the batch I saw yesterday at Low Yat

Latest pointers are

1) The FAKE wasn't as well made as the real Smart Cover
In the FAKE , the side hinges (magnets ) doesn't swing freely/hindered thus making the FAKE harder to open when attached to an ipad2

2) The FAKE back box design is the easiest way to spot it
It has very little description/reference codes . The real Smart Cover will have it's serial number printed on the back

Revised -------------12/5/11

This is how to spot a fake Ver 1.01. (All the flaws below has been fixed in the latest batch of FAKES)
<s>I) When i opened the package , it smelled ! Was like a plastic/leather aroma which i never noticed on the Real Smart Cover , both the PU and Leather cover doesnt have any smell on it
2) The "micro-fiber" on the fake wasnt micro/fine at all. It was like tiny bundles of thread sticking out making it feel like a tiny shaggy carpet while in the the real Smart Cover , its smooth and feels even to the touch

Before i could say anything , the guy just stood up ,snatched his stuff and walked away !

I took out my own Smart Cover to have a look and then I recalled that - on the fake ,

3) there wasnt a stamp "Designed in California by Apple. Assembled in China"</s>

So guys , just be a little carefull when buying the Smart Cover. Check your purchases , be suspicious If the guy selling way below market price , and dont be afraid to open the package to examine the goods !
