Macbook Battery

Hello people I just want to get second opinions on my macbooks battery. I sent my macbook to apple centre a week ago because my battery showed the 'replace now' warning. after a week, received a call from them saying my battery has been charged for more than 1000 cycles so it's basically died of natural cause. I asked the lady who called me if it's okay to use the laptop without replacing the battery. She said it is okay to do so and it wont affect my mac. but when i went to the centre just now, the technician guy said it will actually affect the notebook because the old battery will expand and damaging the motherboard later. so i decided to ask them to just take out the battery (my notebook is now a pc ). but after getting my mac i realised that it's lagging behind very obviously. no syiok dah using it. so, my questions are :

1) will the notebook be damaged for real if i don't change the battery?
2) is it normal for the notebook to lag when the battery was taken out? it's lagging even when i don't have any apps opened.
