Opinions needed please. Water pump installation.

This tank is located at an inaccessible area.

Proposal A (install Groundfos pump at the existing tank):

Q1) will there be water flow to the toilets in 1F during electricity outage, as in, water just flows down by gravity through the non-running pump? Water tank area is too high to reach by house occupants to bypass the pump.

Q2) if the tank becomes empty and pump runs till it loses flow during main water supply disruption, will I need to bleed off (vent) the pump or press the reset button to get it started and pumping again once water supply resumes?

Q3) for just 3 toilets (in 1F) usage, is a 0.5HP pump sufficient? Most importantly, can it run on 13A socket (easier to tap from another 13A SSO) instead of having to pull a 4mm² cable from DB?

Alternatively, I can install a new tank + new pump in the car porch (Proposals B and C). Appreciate any help and feedback. TQ.
PSA: Overly cautious PBB wrt fund transfer

Initiated a 5-figure duit now transfer to my CIMB bank account (saved as favourite account which means it went through a verification process during the adding to favourite step) but PBB put the transaction on hold for 12 hours!
Called up the bank hotline and CSO helped to "approve" the transaction after doing all the verification, but told me the money will be received after at least one hour - not immediately.

Now, while I can understand why the bank unilaterally put the transaction on hold and I admit I cannot remember when I last transferred to this CIMB account, I don't understand why the money cannot be released to my CIMB account immediately upon approval by the CSO.

I asked the CSO whether subsequent transactions today will also be flagged and he told me "most probably not" - which is not good enough for me. He gave me a phone number to contact their cyber something team. I called but nobody answered.

Moral of the story: if you need to perform an abnormal (by PBB's benchmark) transaction and it is time sensitive, you may want to take note of this.

Oh, and the 12-hour cooling period for transaction limit increase setting is silly (although it's practised by many if not most banks in Malaysia). It only makes users set an artificially high limit (defeating the purpose) because not everyone can afford to wait for 12 hours to perform time sensitive transfers.

End of ranting.

Installing Internal TPMS - any advice?

Dear all,
My ride doesn't come with factory fitted TPMS.

I've used the external type (screw in sensors to tyre valve) but it is not practical.

My ride is due for tyre replacement, so I am thinking of fitting internal sensor.

Anyone has any recommendations what brand/model I should buy, and the cons of using such aftermarket ones? My main worries are short battery life in sensors (need to cabut tyre to replace), and air leakage.

TQ.

Is it necessary to bed in new brake pads?

Dear all,

For those who changed brake pads but re-use existing rotors, did you do any bedding/breaking in of brake pads? It's supposed to leave a coat of pad material on the rotors but I'm not sure if it is applicable to existing rotors.

I checked online for the methods to bed in, drive slowly then brake, repeat x times. The workshop which I plan to have my pads changed is located in an area without spacious and deserted road to perform that procedure.

So far, I've only changed pads for my motorcycles and I've never performed any bedding in and they worked just fine.

WTA: cheap vs expensive wipers

Hi all, would like to get your view/experience regarding usage of cheap wipers (<RM20 per pair) vs branded ones.

Is it better to replace yearly with cheapo wipers or use more expensive wipers like Bosch, etc and replace only when they don't perform well?

I'm concerned about potential micro scratches if using cheapo wipers, but an expensive wiper if not changed frequently will also not be good for the windscreen, kan?

WTA: Bathroom Wet Zone Floor Drop Limit

Dear all,

The wet zone in bathrooms have lower floor height compared to the rest of the bathroom (dry zone). Does anyone know if there is a guideline or best practice on the recommended difference in height of floor level between wet and dry zone?

Even in my current place, the mbr bathroom has 30mm drop whereas the common bathroom has 23mm drop, which is still tolerable.

However, in a new house we've just taken possession, the drops in all the toilets range from 50mm to at least 70mm, which is dangerous for unsuspecting visitors (GF toilet) and older folks.
Installing shower partition is not an option due to space constraint, practicality and not to mention having additional maintenance.

To clarify which area I'm referring to, please refer to the "wet zone" in the sample image below.

Thank you in advance.

Image taken from https://happho.com/how-to-best-design-your-...for-your-house/

They look like 4P RCCBs.

Ground floor DB:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

First floor DB:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

The code of practice in MS1979 says:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

4.8.7 COP 52, RCD for three phase circuit
RCDs for three phase systems shall have rated residual operating current not exceeding
100 mA. Provided there are no three phase loads in the installation, it is recommended to
install three single phase RCD instead of a three phase RCD in a three phase installation.
This practice will reduce the extent of power disruption in the installation in case there is a
fault in one phase.

May I know what the sentence in red "provided there are no three phase loads in the installation"? Is it referring to having something like a 3-phase motor in the house? Are there domestic appliances or water pumps that use 3 phase installation?

As for the too low sensitivity of 300mA (only good for fire protection), I asked around and was told "3 phase requires 300mA RCCB", as in it's 3x100mA because 1 phase requires 100mA
I intend to write to the developer but I need to learn more about this topic. I'm sure they will tell me using 100mA or worse, 30mA main RCCB will cause nuisance trips.

Edit: both DBs don't have any other RCCB, be it 30mA for 13A SSO circuit or even 10mA for storage water heater point.

So I will need to install 10mA RCBO for water heater. (Edit: or install a 25A 10mA RCCB after the existing water heater 20A MCB)
For main RCCB, if I install 100mA, I still need to swap those MCBs to 30mA RCBOs.
Best is installing 30mA main RCCB to cover the whole house but will developer give (if they agree) cap ayam rccb that keeps tripping? When it trips, need to hunt for the fault.

Hence looking at all angles before I write to the developer.

WTA: pulling new cable for kitchen hob

Dear all,

I'm pulling a new wire from DB for my induction cooker. Not decided which hob model, but should be 3.5-5 kW type.

1) may i know if 4mm wire is sufficient?

2) When someone says 4mm, he means 4mm² cross sectional of copper part or 4mm diameter?

3) what rating mcb should I use, 20 or 32A?

4) can I tap from this new cable to power the kitchen hood and a new SSO?

5) should I go for 6mm cable to future-proof? Maybe future hobs are more power hungry or I can further tap off power from this line to install built-in oven? Is installing 6mm vs 4mm cable much more difficult and costly?

6)EDIT: electrical contractor suggests pulling 2 sets of 2.5mm² wires to give load of 30A. Is this type of "parallel" cabling common?
Thank you.
