[REVIEW] Noctua NH-D15s

I don't remember CPU coolers being updated this fast before but here with me is a Noctua NH-D15s. An updated version of the newly crowned "King of Air Coolers", the NH-D15 (you could check that article out HERE). Of course, it's always nice to see something new from manufacturers, especially if is from one such as Noctua. This one is dubbed as the single fan version of the original NH-D15 though. Rather than wondering why this has come about so, let's get onto the unboxing and review of this baby.

Mighty thanks to Noctua for sending this to us. A quick scan of the price for this model goes for about RM350 and above depending on where you get it from, but it should be slightly cheaper to the original NH-D15 as it comes with two instead of just one NF-A15 PWM fan.

Nothing has changed much in terms of specifications except for the fan depth. Obviously, because there is only one of it this time so essentially you're getting the same heatsink, minus one NF-A15.

Similar to the NH-D15, the front of the box has a pleasantly clean style to it with the model number and features on top of Noctua's white-brown accents.

The packaging is more simplified with the accessories and the heatsink in two separate boxes compared to the original NH-D15 that has several more.

And the side. It's symmetrical considering that the NH-D15S is supposed to give maximum RAM clearance for even on an X99 platform.

The ever shiny nickle plated base is still a marvel to look at.

The top of the twin stacks has that clean solder to the heatpipes, the etched Noctua branding looks great.

The mounting mechanism remains unchanged. Nice to know that I'll not lose these screws.

Super clean crimps that connect the fins together as well as direct airflow from the fan.

Installation

Since the SecureFirmII mounting mechanism remains unchanged from the previous Noctua NH-C14 cooler tested, I didn't have to swap it out to mount the new NH-D15S. All I did was cleaned the old TIM, squeeze a new pea-sized amount of new TIM and secure the new cooler right onto the ol' Intel i7 4770-K CPU.

We tested the NH-D15s on our trusty Intel platform with the core i7-4770K overclocked slightly to 4.2GHz. We then fired up the usual Prime95 with the option 'In-place large FFTs' for maximum heat output, under room temperature of about 28ºC.

The results were as expected as it is the same NH-D15 heatsink, still edging the NH-D14 and AIO liquid solutions at a respective 79°C on load temperatures. I don't think I need to describe how the NF-A15 fan sounds like as it's fairly difficult to even hear it on the test bench.

Conclusion

The Noctua NH-D15s is a choice for users over the first NH-D15 mainly for tall RAM compatibility or just in case one doesn't need the dual fans configuration. It is still essentially the same cooler and it performs very much the same.

This is because of the superb sonic quality of STAX electrostatic earspeakers. In general, better sound quality is available with earspeakers than with loudspeaker systems due to several factors.

For instance:
1. Earspeakers are not affected by the acoustic characteristics of the listening room. Thus sonic coloration can not be injected into the music from standing waves or unwanted sound reflections.

What is Electrostatic Earspeakers?

Electrostatic drivers consist of a thin, electrically charged diaphragm, typically a coated PET film membrane, suspended between two perforated metal plates (electrodes). The electrical sound signal is applied to the electrodes creating an electrical field; depending on the polarity of this field, the diaphragm is drawn towards one of the plates. Air is forced through the perforations; combined with a continuously changing electrical signal driving the membrane, a sound wave is generated. Electrostatic headphones are usually more expensive than moving-coil ones, and are comparatively uncommon. In addition, a special amplifier is required to amplify the signal to deflect the membrane, which often requires electrical potentials in the range of 100 to 1000 volts.

Due to the extremely thin and light diaphragm membrane, often only a few micrometers thick, and the complete absence of moving metalwork, the frequency response of electrostatic headphones usually extends well above the audible limit of approximately 20 kHz. The high frequency response means that the low midband distortion level is maintained to the top of the audible frequency band, which is generally not the case with moving coil drivers. Also, the frequency response peakiness regularly seen in the high frequency region with moving coil drivers is absent. Well-designed electrostatic headphones can produce significantly better sound quality than other types.

Electrostatic headphones require a voltage source generating 100 V to over 1 kV, and are on the user's head. They do not need to deliver significant electric current, which limits the electrical hazard to the wearer in case of fault.

Unboxing & Review: Plextor M6E M.2

So, you think your SSD is fast? if you've hooked up an SSD to a SATA port, think again. Sure, the boot and loading speeds have shortened vastly compared to a HDD but let's face it, even the latest SATA3, 6Gbps interface is already bottlenecking current gen SSDs.

Which is why we have the Plextor M6E PCI-Express SSD that connects via the PCI-E interface of your motherboard in order to be rid of the bandwidth limitations of the SATA interface. To top it off, the M6E connects via the new M.2 slot that is available in the latest Intel Z97 chipset motherboards offering speeds up to 10Gbps in a very small package.

Mighty thanks to Plextor for supplying the M6E M.2 2280 for today's review. This 256GB unit retails for RM819 and is also available in 128GB and 512GB models. With that said, lets go catch this speed demon already.

Not much to say about the packaging, the Plextor M6E comes in a small blister-pack that's no larger than a pack of SO-DIMM / Laptop RAMs. Plextor did manage to state the size of the drive, which is 22mm x 80mm (hence the moniker 2280), and read and write speeds on the sticker though, which obscured the whole M.2 SSD. I'm just still marvelling at the size / capacity ratio here (though I can't say the same about the price).

The Product

Taking it out of the pack, there is really nothing much, only the M.2 SSD is here. Right off the bat though, you can see that Plextor incorporated 19nm NAND MLC flash ICs by Tohshiba (similar to the ones used in Plextor's own M5 Pro SSDs). That's 64GB on each flash chip to make up the 256GB capacity on this M.2 2280 SSD. Another sticker is also here bearing some useful information.

Flipping the M.2 SSD over, we can see more of the Toshiba MLC NAND chips as well as a controller chip by Marvell. Yup, you'll have full TRIM support, Garbage collection (in Windows 7 / 8) and native support for second-gen PCI-E x2.

Unboxing & Review: Silverstone Raven 04

The Raven series from Silverstone are some of the best chassis that most PC builders would love to have. Right from RV01 to RV03, the Raven series have sported 90-degree mounting for the motherboard tray that encourages heat dissipation through the top vents; This time however, they've opted for an inverted motherboard tray.

Thanks to Silverstone Malaysia and Inter-Asia Technology for the provision of our Silverstone RV04 sample. Retailing at RM589 SRP, lets take a look at how the RV04 stacks up against it's older siblings.

The Raven04 comes in a full coloured cardboard box with a dark theme, which is kind of surprising considering that Silverstone have the RV03 packed in a more cost-friendly brown box that we thought will be Silverstone's new packaging policy from then on but apparently, we guessed wrong. With that, it's back to the usual Raven-styled glossy design with the chassis depicted at the front with a raven in the background. Highlights of the chassis features sits just under the name and branding and finally Silverstone's own website and a QR code that links to the micro-site of the RV04.

Much is the same at the back, except that you get a view of the internals of the RV04 with the features labelled with descriptions beside it. This seems very much like Silverstone's own Fortress 04 that we reviewed recently doesn't it? this is because it essentially is the same chassis with a few different set of features. As you read on, you'll find a lot of comparison to the Fortress 04.

And on the left is a short introduction to the Raven series and also highlights of the features again in multi-lingual formats.

Popping the box open, Silverstone placed a reminder to read the manual. If this is your first time building a system in a Raven 04, I'd recommend that you do so as well.

Packaging is moulded hard foam on the ends and the chassis is wrapped with a cloth-like cover to protect it from scratches and dust.

The accessory box is securely lodged in between the middle of the moulded foam, very creative use of space.

This is what you get inside the accessory box; User manual, a bag of screws, some zipties, plastic brackets for up to a 360mm rad mount at the front and a GPU support bracket.

Unboxing & Review: CM Storm Resonar

We've seen a lot of peripherals coming from Cooler Master over these few years under their CM Storm badge that has quite the range. We got a small unboxing to do today with the latest CM Storm Resonar Gaming Earphone.

Big thanks to Cooler Master Malaysia for getting us the sample before the official launch day, the Resonar will be available in retail stores soon for RM179 SRP. With that said, let's take a look at the actual product at hand.

Just to highlight that the specification is copied from the packaging where I find some inconsistencies in the descriptions. Yes it's minor but I thought the folks over at Cooler Master should take note

The CM Storm Resonar comes in an overall black box that's no larger than a soda can. At the front, the actual product is depicted with the branding, features and product name highlighted in silver against the dark background. Calling this an In-Ear-Monitor (IEM) or headset would've probably be more attractive compared to Earphone, but that's just my opinion for the sake of simplicity, we'll class this as a headset.

At the back you'll find more branding and some highlights of the features of the Resonar.

Flipping open the magnetic flap at the front, you'll see the specification of the Resonar along with an image on how the patented Bass FX technology is activated as well as the frequency response chart to show the difference between the two settings. you will also see the actual product and the carry case through the clear windows on the opposite side.

Emptying the contents, you will find a quick start guide, a 3.5mm 4-pole to dual 3-pole adaptor, some replacement eartips (silicone), a warranty service info card and the hard carrying case for accessories.

The Earphone features matte-rubber flat cables, a better option compared to the traditional round cables most IEM in the market. The gold-plated 3.5mm jack looks great with the metal casing. CM Storm also included a small reusable cable tie that'll come in handy if you wanna shorten the cables when in use.

The in-line microphone is located closer to the left earpiece, it only has a single button for multiple function such as pause for tracks and receive calls when you're using this with your smartphone.

Unboxing & review: Noctua NH-D15

Because the weather in Malaysia is hot and humid throughout the year, PC cooling is always an issue that has to be dealt with one way or another. Noctua said that they have the solution for us and sent to us the latest king of air coolers, the Noctua NH-D15.

To the folks at Noctua, we're glad to report that it arrived in immaculate condition. This is the same retail box you would see locally. The package is overall bronze/brown and white with the front showing the branding and highlighted features of the cooler with an artistic shot of the cooler as the background. A sticker notifies user that the NH-D15 is based on the award winning NH-D14.

The right side shows the specification and dimensions of the cooler.

At the back are the features along with illustrations.

and the left side is a short description of the cooler in quite a number of languages.

I normally skip this part but the top has another artistic shot that's too good to just ignore.

Opening the top flaps, this is what greeted me. It's been a long time since I've seen product packaging this good, not since the Thermalright Archon and Silver Arrow that is. The first three boxes contains the accessories and the Securefirm 2 mounting kits for the NH-D15.

You'll find two more boxes after that which contains the cooler and an extra fan, specifically the NF-A15 PWM.

Unboxing & Review: Roccat Kave XTD

When one purchases a good set of cans, we often would want a good soundcard to get the total experience that the headset could produce but which one would you buy? if you're not such an accomplished audiophile like I am this could be a real headache. or maybe you've had all your PCI/PCIE lanes occupied already? What if I tell you that you that you could just buy one that comes with it's own soundcard?

Introducing the Roccat Kave XTD 5.1 Digital Surround Sound Headset. Like I said, this comes with it's own proprietary soundcard that plugs straight into a USB, a simple solution that packs a lot of features that most would find interesting. Many thanks to Play Interactive for providing the sample for us to tinker around with. At the time of reviewing the Kave XTD, the SRP in Malaysia has yet to be determined.

The Packaging

If you are familiar with the original Kave 5.1 you'll note that the Kave XTD comes in a similar looking black and blue packaging with a partial window, only this time it's slightly longer to fit the new desktop controller. From here, Roccat highlighted some of the features on the left side and at the bottom with an illustration of the actual headset somewhat in the middle of it all.

At the back of the box, you'll see a product diagram indicating what is what on the headset and the new desktop controller along with more highlights of the features in a lot more languages. Tech specs of the Kave XTD is also available on the bottom right.

And as mentioned, the new desktop controller on the side, dubbed "Fully-Equipped Remote" by Roccat.

What you get out of the box? the Kave XTD headset, the Desktop controller, a driver CD, Quick start guide, warranty information and a note that tells you to not use the included driver CD as it's already outdated.

The Desktop Controller

Powering the Kave XTD is a single USB cable, that's it, no more separate plugs for the different audio drivers in the earcups this time around. And yes this means that the KaveXTD is a PC-only headset. My main concern though is that the cable is not braided. Roccat dubbed this as a tangle-free cable though which is interesting to see how they stack up in the testing later on.

The desktop controller is larger than your average mouse and is supposed to sit next to your keyboard. Aside from the controls (which we'll cover later on) this is also a 5.1 surround sound card. The main surface is glossy plastic which are fingerprint magnets but luckily the main knob doesn't share the characteristic. Sorry to disappoint but you wouldn't be able to unplug the Kave headset from the desktop controller with the wires permanently connected but you may use the soundcard with other speakers or headsets of your choice.

At the lower part of the controller you get the call and a mic-mute button. The Kave XTD allows you to pair your mobile device via Bluetooth so that you could answer incoming calls via the headset itself saving you the hassle of having to take off the headset at all. You'll know that you're paired with the XTD when the Bluetooth indicator in the middle glows blue.

The upper part of the desktop controller are where you'll find the switches to toggle movie mode, sound channel selection and of finally a speaker bypass.

Which comes to the part where you can plug in your speakers to the desktop controller a.k.a sound card. of course you could also plug in another headset but it defeats the purpose as enabling audio from these ports will disable the Kave XTD and the volume knob.

Unboxing & review: Armaggeddon Tarasque

Most of us gamers would have considered a wireless mouse at some point. While some of us did manage to jump ship, the others are either just discouraged making that purchase due to the higher cost or weight of the wireless mouse or even cats that sweep down your peripherals from atop of the desk. So to grant that same feeling of wireless freedom, you might wanna check out a mouse bungee.

Armaggeddon stepped up into the fray with the Tarasque, a mouse bungee with built in USB hub. The idea is to hold the mouse wire in place that it would not be snagged in any way while in use, creating that "wirelessness" of using a wired mouse while still being secured to the PC. The Tarasque is retailing at RM99 (SRP) but at the time of reviewing this unit, you can get one for RM1 when you purchase the Armaggeddon AlienIV G9X gaming mouse in the local stores.

The Armaggeddon Tarasque comes in an overall black box with yellow accented details, Armaggeddon's colours if you will. At the front is a nice large window for users to see the actual product.

Coming to the back, you'll find a thorough description of the Tarasque with some illustration of the actual product.

And the opposite side are where you will find the specs of the Tarasque.

Not much in terms of extras, you get the USB to mini-USB connector, a replacement sticky-pad and a users manual that comes in a small black envelope. Edifier Studio R1600TIII 2.0 Speaker System

A white box was handed over to me by the folks of Inter-Asia Technology asking me to do a quick review of the new Edifier R1600TIII. For those of you who aren't familiar with the brand, Edifier is a Chinese-based company that specializes in producing high-quality consumer audio electronics.

Truth be told, I was impressed with their W670BT Bluetooth Headset that I reviewed back in April so as part of the Edifier Studio Series, I'm expecting nothing less from the R1600TIII. Retailing at RM339 SRP, lets head right into business.

Specs

The Speakers

The R1600TIII is certainly a handsome unit, encased in MDF wooden enclosure the combination of natural wood-grain texture with grey accent in the middle really makes the speaker units stand out, a total refresh from the all black finishing from Edifier's classic Studio-series speakers. There is also an angled design to the speakers that adds to the aesthetics.

Taking off the front bezel, you can see the 19mm silk-dome tweeter driver at the top followed by a 4-inch subwoofer unit with the bass reflex port right below; of course, this is the same for both speakers.

Taking a look from the sides, and again, most will appreciate the natural wood accent that the R800TIII has.

In terms of control, the right speaker will have three knobs at the side of the right speaker which lets users adjust the treble, bass and of course the volume. A small green power LED right below the volume knob will light up when the system is turned on.

Included is a handy-dandy remote for mute and volume control, I wish that I could control the Treble and Bass from here as well but being no bigger than a bar of Kit-Kat it's already enough of a convenience.

Edifier has kept it simple for connectivity. At the back of the left speaker you will find only a single "speaker-in" connection that you plug in from the right speaker.

The 'command centre' are over at the right speaker. Inputs are at the top with dual RCA-in giving you the option of dual RCA inputs at the top and a left-speaker-out connection right below that. The power button is situated at the bottom left while the cable you see protruding out is the power cord.

Needless to say that the cables you need are provided, an RCA to 3.5mm cable and a proprietary connector for the left-speaker-in.

Unboxing & Review: Silverstone PS09

Silverstone is known for their elegant and innovative chassis such as their Fortress and Raven series. Now these are premium offerings that appeals to enthusiasts, but today I take a dive into the other end of the spectrum with a budget friendly Micro-ATX chassis from Silverstone.

Credits to Inter-Asia Technology for providing us the Silverstone PS09 for today's article. The Silverstone PS09 is part of the Precision series which focuses on value-oriented offerings from Silverstone classified as "High-Value Tower Chassis", what's more is that the PS09 is a silent chassis. With the SRP at RM189 this looks like a sweet deal indeed.

The PS09 comes in a regular cardboard box that's printed full of info about the chassis itself. Right from the get go, users can know almost everything there is about the PS09 without opening it.

Out from the box, the PS09 is protected by two moulded Styrofoam that protects it from knocks and bumps and is covered in plastic as well.

You'll normally find these inside the chassis but I've extracted it to show what comes with it. Not much is bundled with the PS09, an quick start guide and a bag of screws with a single cable tie, that's it. Not that I expected much from a budget series chassis.

External Features

The PS09 is very light indeed but the construction seems solid enough for it to hold it's shape. Side panels are plain with some indentation at the back that doubles as a grip when opening the chassis with meshed ventilations at the side of the front panel. You'll also find the power button and the reset button right above the meshed vents Both sides of the chassis are identical. Being a mini-tower chassis, there are only two 5.25" bays at your disposal on the front.

Front panel I/O consists of two USB3.0 ports, a microphone and headphone jack.

A Silverstone logo / badge is also found at the front panel.

The side ventilations are filtered and may be removed easily for cleaning.

Unboxing & Review: Archgon Play!

Admit it, storage space is always an issue, no matter the size, it's never going to be enough. Adding storage to a PC is relatively easy but what about if one happen to have a smartphone with non-expandable memory? On-the-go USB is one simple solution; and today we'll take a look at the Archgon Play! OTG mobile Card Reader.

Now Archgon is a brand that produces small peripherals and enclosures for myriads of PC-devices so having this as one just for Android devices (sorry Apple fans) this little card reader will allow users to place files on a separate SD-card or Micro-SD card even if their android device doesn't have memory expansion slots. Retailing at RM25 (SRP), it's a pretty cheap solution.

Testing

Right from the get go, it works just like a USB card reader the only difference is that it's designed for Android devices. The advantage of this over other OTG USB drives is that one could choose to add memory up to 32GB on the SD/Micro-SD cards. This device would really benefit me as I need to transfer photos from my DSLR for immediate use at times. Bear in mind that only one card will be detected if both slots are occupied at the same time.

I'll admit that this isn't the most elegant of solutions, but it just works and watching movies from the memory card doesn't ruin your style. Depending on your device, your file manager may not pop up like it did on my test with the Samsung Galaxy Note II here. Just sad to say that in my tests, rooted android devices running custom ROMs have difficulties detecting the card reader.

Pictures, music and video files are accessible without any problems. The dual card slots is a great implementation however one could always use an adaptor to read from a Micro-SD. I just wish that I could connect this to the PC without the help of external adaptors so that I could have an all-in-one card reader.

Conclusion

The Archgon Play is a nifty product for Android devices. Simply a great solution for memory expansions or file separations from the main memory card in your phone. It's not for everyone, but I'll recommend it to people who are looking for a solution to transfer data via SD/Micro-SD Cards directly to their mobile devices.

Now we know when it comes to music, not all of us listen to the same thing, hence we often see people with their headphones or In-ear-monitors (IEM) while going on their daily routines. But if you find that the wires that hangs from out from these personal audio devices inconvenient to downright pesky, then it's probably wise to get a wireless headset.
A big thanks to Inter-Asia for providing Tech-Critter.com the Edifier W670BT Stereo Bluetooth Headset. If you're an enthusiast for good music, most probably you've heard of Edifier, a maker and manufacturer of high quality audio devices that are pocket friendly in comparison to other solutions with the same features.

Retailing at RM199 (SRP) in the Malaysian market, the Edifier W670BT is priced well below any contender offering the same product type. Before we jump the gun however, lets see what this little wireless wonder can do.

Packaging

The Edifier W670BT comes in a overall white box with silver texts at the front depicting the Brand and model with an illustration of the headset smack right in the middle. Up at the top right corner indicates that this is a Bluetooth headset and the effective operation range of 10 meters. This is the packaging meant for China so if you happen to be buying in another country, it may differ.

Opening the front flap will allow users to peek at the folded headset through the window along with the specs and features of the headset in Chinese.

At the back is a collage of the product shot in different angles and another round of features in both English and Chinese this time.

Taking the W670BT out of the box, you'll find the headset, a quick-start guide, product information leaflet, a standard USB to Micro USB charging cable and a 2.5" to 3.5" audio connector. The leaflet indicates that the package doesn't come with a wall socket connector for charging so users will have to either charge via the USB port on their PC, laptop, power-bank or procure their own wall-plug-to-USB converter.

To give you a sense of size, here is a picture of a model wearing the W670BT. You can see that it's very compact indeed.

Gamdias Hephaestus Gaming Headset

It's been a while since we have Gamdias sending us their products for review but they've pulled through with a flashy comeback with their Hephaestus gaming headset. As usual, the name is derived from a Greek God and Hephaestus is the God of Fire, metalworking, stone masonry, forges and the art of sculpture which again sounds like a big shoe to fill. At RM339 SRP let's jump right in to see what the Gamdias Hephaestus has in store for us.

Packaging

The Hephaestus comes in a half cardboard-half transparent plastic box that divides the headset in half. This makes it very attractive on the shelf but reading the features printed on the transparent sides takes a bit of concentration. Anyway, the Hephaestus has a Blast Source Identifier and Cooler System which is a first for me in a headset.

Unboxing & Review: BitFenix Flo

I could not describe how excited I was when this arrived at my doorstep. With all the hype and hopes, it's finally in my hands...the BitFenix Flo headset. Many thanks to Inter-Asia and BitFenix Malaysia who took all the trouble of procuring the sample.

The Flo is BitFenix's first audio product, as they are essentially manufacturers of high quality PC chassis and they've brought the design element unique to BitFenix onto the Flo, which is an interesting aspect of the headset. Available is four colours as seen above, lets see what BitFenix has to offer with the Flo headset.

Specs

The specs are just about standard with most headsets but I was intrigue to see the rated impedance at 68-ohms, which is doubled compared to more well-known offerings such as the Steelseries Siberia V2 (32-ohms) or Corsair Vengeance 2000 (32-ohms) so technically it should sound better especially when coupled with a good sound-card; really looking forward to testing it now.

Taking everything from the box, I have the Flo Headset, Detachable Microphone, 1-metre cable with in-line volume and mic control, and a 2m cable with separate mic and audio jacks. I am missing the 1-metre mobile cable as this is a sample unit, though the retail unit will be not much different.

The Headset

The headset is a one-size-fits-all design. It is fairly light and is coated with BitFenix's trademarked SofTouch material. Despite it's weight, the Flo feels solid; no creaking sounds came from the unit even flexing it (within the permitted limits).

At the top is where the two support frame and adjustment strap with some cushioning.

Speaking of cushioning, the "SoftFeel" closed-back plush ear-cups is adequately deep and comfortable, though the pleater-like material will make the ears sweat if worn in a warm climate. These are removable but currently there are no indication of replacement ear-cups from BitFenix.

This is how the microphone and audio jacks plugs into the Flo. The chromed rim is a nice touch and logo indicates the brand without being too overbearing, atypical BitFenix styling.

Here are the close-up shots of the connectors. The aluminium sheaths of the connectors gave it that premium feel while protecting the joints housed inside; etched on are the connection indicators and the BitFenix branding. The in-line volume and mic controller is also coated with the SofTouch material ensuring good grip but it may become an issue to some as frequently handling of rubberised coatings may result in peeling and stickiness over a period of time, this is made worse in a hot and humid climate of Malaysia.

Detachable mic is a boon in this package as it ensures that one would be able to use the Flo in public places without looking odd. This has a good reach and is flexible enough to be positioned in front of your mouth.

Testing

The BitFenix Flo is very comfortable despite the fact that it's non-adjustable; thanks to the plushy SoftFeel ear-cups and lightweight construction. The grip is adequate which ensures that the headset stays on your head and without making one feel they're wearing a torture device. The detachable microphone allows the Flo to transform into a street-style headset but since it's not fold-able, one would have to get a little creative when packing it into a bag.

Sound quality from the 40mm drivers are good with no distortions on high volume, vocals are crisp and clear with adequately punchy bass for music and movies. The Flo also provided good directional audio from FPS games, explosions and gunfire sounds have a satisfying kick to them as well. Nothing much to say about the microphone, it just works and that's the gist of it.

Conclusion

Just to clear things up, the BitFenix Flo is never meant to be a gaming-only peripheral, but more towards an all-round headset that you could use anywhere. Having said that though, the sound from the Flo is good, I was worried about the high Ohm rating but I have yet to experience any problems listening to music from my handphone. The detachable cables also means that users will be able to swap them with custom cables of their choice and would satisfy most people craving for good audio with the flexibility of using it anywhere they desire.

I'd like to see BitFenix coming up with other options for their ear-cups and probably an in-line volume controller without the SofTouch treatment not only for the hot and humid climate but also because handling the controller over a time will wear out the rubber surface. The non-adjustable headband might also be an issue for oversized heads so do try it out before buying.

Overall, the experience is impressive but the actual product has yet to make it's way to the Malaysian shores at the time of writing this article. A quick look up with uncle-Google reveals that it's priced between USD71 to USD104 in Amazon.com which translate to about RM232 to RM340 but it's not a decisive figure for the SRP in Malaysia so we'll just have to wait for a while.
