Super - How is internet Larut Malam calculated?

Hi new user from UMobile here. I've mostly understood the convoluted mess that is Hotlink data plan but not quite clear about internet Larut Malam. Do you get 30GB in bulk or is it 1GB per day with no data carry forward? I know the text everywhere says 1GB/day but I'm wondering if it's different in practice.

Thanks!

GDR3 screenshots posted

A poster on WPCentral forum has posted some screenshot from GDR3 update, dubbed "Bittersweet Shimmer". He claimed to have got a developer L920 from Craig's list, although Microsoft is probably going knocking on his door now.

<s>Some notable features are rotation lock, custom tone for SMS, mail, etc, driving mode, better multitasking (there's an X to close apps in multitasking page now).</s>

Confirmed features so far:

Custom sounds for text, voice mail, e-mail, and reminders (not seen in this build of GDR3)

Restore over Wi-Fi when you reset your phone

Huge amount of work on Bluetooth with various vehicles and devices

Driving Mode

Screen rotation lock

'X' to close out apps in multitasking

Icon for multitasking apps

General performance improvements

1080P Display support (for new devices)

Support for new Qualcomm chipsets

Some of the features here have been known for some time but it's nice to finally see them in action.

Video:

Second video showing multitasking and app killing: (thanks lcy851031)

WPCentral - Screenshots
WPCentral - Video
The Verge
Neowin

Rotation lock coming to WP8

http://www.theverge.com/2013/8/9/4604990/w...t-sync-features

QUOTE

The update is designed for new hardware initially, and will provide a rotation lock feature, UI changes to Live Tiles, and a driving mode option that's designed for in-car use.

The rotation lock, or "autorotate screen" as it will be known, is simply an option in settings that will disable the automatic rotation in Windows Phone. Microsoft's mobile OS has lacked this basic feature, and we understand it's being added primarily because 5- and 6-inch Windows Phones will hit the market soon. The Windows Phone UI will also alter slightly, with some changes to the network status icons, and updates to the Live Tiles for new 1080p handsets. We're told that Microsoft is also planning to sync text messages from Windows Phones to PCs and the web. The feature might not make it in time for the GDR3 release as it's still being finalized..

With a big fat hint of a phablet/full HD device coming up soon.

iPad is for monkeys

http://www.fudzilla.com/home/item/27096-ipad-is-for-monkeys

QUOTE

Gibbon half a chance I would stick the boot into Apple's over priced fruity toy, the iPad and its legions of technology-illiterate fanboys who make the Manson family appear like the Waltons.

But recent research suggests that Apple fanboys really are a genetic throwback and counter evolutionary. Which is more or less what I have thought all along.

A new program at the Miami zoo involves using iPads to communicate with orangutans. True it is not the sort of iPads most Apple fans use. These have to be stronger to cope with the fact that Orangutans have to be able to throw them about a bit and wipe their bottoms with them.

According to the Associated Press, trainers are working specifically with 8-year-old twin orangutans helping them draw, play games, and work on new vocabulary as part of a mental stimulus programme. Apparently the younger orangutans have taken to the iPad quicker than the older more reasonable Apes who wonder what the fuss is all about.

We guess it is only a matter of time before they will be joining the legions of Apple fans who go bananas and spend time abusing those who dare think different and say that Jobs' Mob is just another computer company. Using software developed for kids with autism, the software installed on the iPads shows pictures of objects that the trainer identifies and then allows for the orangutans to touch a corresponding button.

Despite the advances made using iPads with orangutans, there are some limitations. Since the devices are delicate and the screens are too small and trainers have to hold the tablets. But pretty soon the trainers are confident that apes will be able to cue outside an Apple store and give standing ovations during Apple press conferences. [What’s next? An Ape Store? Ed]

An End to a War tells the story of Ueno Itsuyoshi, a late draftee into the Japanese Army in WWII. Ueno and his fellow soldiers came to Borneo expecting to fight and die for the Emperor, but instead most died of exhaustion, starvation and disease. This is undoubtedly the best eye-witness description of the horror of the death marches that took the lives of many thousands of Japanese, Australian, British and, indirectly, local people. Few of those who were ordered to march from the East Coast ever arrived at their destination of the West Coast. Ueno’s story provides a broader context to the infamous Sandakan-Ranau death marches of Allied POW’s, a few of whom he met briefly on his trek.

The amateur cartoons, made using a recurring set of expressive characters, are used by a growing international community. Far from being insignificant doodles, the faces are now an accepted and standardized form of online communication used to tell stories that can be quick and funny or serious and deeply personal.

Because they have become so ubiquitous, and because any surfer worth his salt should have a working knowledge of top Internet memes, we've created this Field Guide to Rage Faces. In any expedition, preparation is key; for Internet adventurers, the ability to tell a “Challenge Accepted” from a “Me Gusta” can make all the difference. So kick off your boots, set your pith helmet aside, and enjoy a snifter of brandy as we explore the evolution, habitat, and social characteristics of rage faces.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

QUOTE

Japanese researchers have created a hand-held gun (pictured above) that can jam the words of speakers who are more than 30 meters (100ft) away. The gun has two purposes, according to the researchers: At its most basic, this gun could be used in libraries and other quiet spaces to stop people from speaking — but its second application is a lot more chilling.

The researchers were looking for a way to stop “louder, stronger” voices from saying more than their fair share in conversation. The paper reads: “We have to establish and obey rules for proper turn-taking when speaking. However, some people tend to lengthen their turns or deliberately interrupt other people when it is their turn in order to establish their presence rather than achieve more fruitful discussions. Furthermore, some people tend to jeer at speakers to invalidate their speech.” In other words, this speech-jamming gun was built to enforce “proper” conversations.

The gun works by listening in with a directional microphone, and then, after a short delay of around 0.2 seconds, playing it back with a directional speaker. This triggers an effect that psychologists call Delayed Auditory Feedback (DAF), which has long been known to interrupt your speech (you might’ve experienced the same effect if you’ve ever heard your own voice echoing through Skype or another voice comms program). According to the researchers, DAF doesn’t cause physical discomfort, but the fact that you’re unable to talk is obviously quite stressful.

SOS

This is just what every man on earth wishes for.
