Here's a trick which i found by surveying and stalking on Arch Linux's Wiki

Because i'm currently using a non Adblock browser ( Jumanji ) , ad's are eye patching to look at ( and sometimes get very annoying too )

Adding Adblock to any supported browser may also slow down page rendering and sometimes consumes much ram than I thought (12-20Mb approx.)

Well , here's the trick which may work for almost all OS

Download and install privoxy

Ubuntu or Debian

sudo apt-get install privoxy

Arch Linux

sudo pacman -S privoxy

Fedora

sudo yum -y install privoxy

Then , you need to install/get/retrieve privoxy blocklist bash script in order to change Adblock lists to be readable by privoxy

For Arch Linux users , run these :

yaourt privoxy-blocklist and install from there

After that , run sudo privoxy-blocklist

And you're done for this step

For other os's

You need these few deps before you can use the privoxy-blocklist.sh

>bash
>wget
>sed
>privoxy

Then , download the script from here : Click Me !

Make the file executable by :

sudo chmod a+x /path/to/privoxy-blocklist.sh

cd to the folder of the script where it is located

Run the script with sudo :

sudo ./privoxy-blocklist.sh

This will fetch the adblock's block list and convert them for privoxy use

And you're done now

In order to Chrome and Chromium to use the following local proxy :

http://127.0.0.1:8118

Where the proxy host is 127.0.0.1 and port is 8118

You can set the universal environment with this :

Create /etc/profile.d/privoxy.sh

Inside , include these :

export http_proxy="http://127.0.0.1:8118"
export https_proxy="http://127.0.0.1:8118"

Then save and make it executable :

sudo chmod a+x /etc/profile.d/privoxy.sh

*Note This script works for Chrome and Chromium but not other browsers such as Firefox , Midori and such . To make them work , please include 127.0.0.1:8118 as a proxy for them to use

And you're done

Now , for the daemon , start privoxy with these :

sudo rc.d start privoxy

Then , edit /etc/rc.conf and add privoxy to the Daemons

DAEMONS=(... privoxy ...)

To run it in the background , add @ infront of it

DAEMONS=(... @privoxy ...)

You're done Restart and see what happens

Depending on how you wanna configure your browser and such , this is guide is to setup for using browsers which has no adblock extension

Idk how much is this differs from hosts file editing but some say hosts file does not have the flexibility to configure to block whether what you want to block or you not want to block from a site

Everytime i found something which is worth sharing n recommended , im'ma share it to u guyz

Nice interface , less deps , it only depends on libpng while building it from source (unlike gEdit )

It features keybindings and color scheme which you can change to suit your taste

You gotta try it in order to experience it
