Best Setup for Unifi - Streamyx

I realise that there are a lot of experts out there. Just wondering what a layman should do when they first get their connection.

I was told by a friend to toss the router given by my old ISP (Streamyx) cos its a crap router and will cause a lot of problems.

I have since *upgraded* to Unifi. I still have perpetual connection issues. (connection drops after 5 mins)

Is there like a recommended post with a "do this first" list ?

- like replace router
- reconfigure NAT (or whatever my xBox keeps telling me to do)
- change the DNS or IP address ( some ppl tell me the numbers matter for quality of connection)

Just asking for some guidance =D

Side story :
My "best" Unifi experience was using the telephone service when asking for help. They asked me to turn off the modem. I told them that I was calling using their phone line and turning off the modem would disconnect the call. She said to go ahead, it would be fine. I guess she was just fed up of my questions. Brilliant customer service there.
- the call obviously disconnected and I had to call back and get another representative to deal with me....
What does the TTDI refer to ? I thought it was Taman Tun Dr Ismail....
Yet the website clearly states that "TTDI Alam Impian is superbly located in Shah Alam with multiple ingress and egress points"

D-Link MyPocket Router WiFi Mode

Just a quick update to my problem. A friend of mine pointed out that I hadn't setup the connection in wireless mode.

This is doing by accessing the router when it is in wireless mode via the ip address.
( Preset at 192.168.0.1 or whatever ip address you have assigned it via the Connection Manager settings)

In wireless router mode, the internet connection has to be setup again.
So I :-
1. Changed the myPocket Router to router mode
2. Turned it on
3. Connected my laptop to it via a wireless connection
4. Entered the ip address
5. Got onto the wireless mode device/connection manager
6. Setup the new connection with the settings provided by maxis
7. Saved the changes
8. Restarted the router

AND IT NOW WORKS. Quite pleased it was resolved. Now to gripe about the connection quality ...
