[Mini-Dvi] to [VGA] and [Mini-Dvi] to [DVI]

I just recently purchased a Samsung 2333SW monitor which has a VGA and DVI input. I'm on the white macbook before the graphics card upgrade.

At the moment, i have a Mini DVI to VGA converter which i'm using for this monitor, which was an old converter i purchased yonks ago.

I was wondering if it will be worth it for me to fork out additional cash to get a Mini-Dvi to DVI converter for this LCD monitor. Did my homework online to check for differences between the two display hardware (VGA, DVI), but i couldn't find the information in regards to this Macbook enquiry.

Anyone's got any striking clues?

SQL Script to Copy Tables into Files

Is there a way, to create an SQL script, that will execute an SQL query and copy it into a file or any format that can be viewed ?

It's like any normal SQL query, but i want to skip the whole process of running SQL Server, connecting to it natively and then displaying the results.

Instead, i would like to create a short script that connect to the server and access the table information and then subsequently displaying it on the screen.

FAT32 --> NTFS On A Mac

I've got a macbook, running on Tiger.

Boot Camp Windows

External Hard Disk (WD, 500gb. Just for reference)

Boot Camp and External Hard disk is in FAT32

Mac Drive HFS+

Been using system flawlessly for the past year, but due to work in company, i've been doing works in windows and for one of the programs, we've got a backup file that was 6 gig in size (one file).
Due to restrictions for FAT32, anything more than 4 gb wouldn't be copied to the host machine (windows)/ or even external hard drive.

So i decided to use the Windows internal command "Convert C:" after i had a backup of all my files and doing a research on risks online. I've also had my external hard drive formatted into NTFS.
Changing the file format for windows required a reboot whilst the external hard drive could be done on the spot without rebooting.

After the reformatting, i was still doing works in windows, and everything was working fine still. Files could be played, movies in my external hard drive was going on smoothly.
The problem happened when i rebooted back into MAC.

Mac had problems recognizing the External hard drive which was NTFS but it was still mounted. Windows was still mounted.

I did more research and i found this two software that would work well for NTFS based disk.

MacFuse, NTFS-3G

Installed and got the files running well.

Then i reboot back into Windows, and all hell broke loose.

#1 Windows now have problem recognizing my external hard disk. not only does it have problem recognizing the external hard disk, it gives a shit long ass hang whilst trying to connect the external hard disk. So what would i have done, reboot into mac and check

#2 Rebooted into mac, and now even mounting Windows drive was given a huge ass error. External hard disk was mounted with no problem, but playing movies from external hard drive gives me a constant lag every 10-20 seconds. Sorta like parkinson display.

#3 Can't run external hard disk in windows at all. AT ALL.

I've read through lots of articles, forum discussion yet there hasn't been a mention of a problem that is similar to mine. Risk of converting was there, and i understood it well. There wasn't any loss of data to begin with, it was just a simple NTFS compatibility issue.

Anyone's got any idea what to run, what has happened, and any solution (anyone that has gone through the same problem, most likely mac users). Disk Warrior is not really an option because file is still intact.

[addedon]December 21, 2008, 8:23 pm[/addedon]I found a clearer picture of what is happening, and i suspect it would be the compatibility of the external hard disk and windows

Due to dual-boot issues, i have had to go with NTFS-3g (Macfuse) so that Mac can work that hard disk as well. Problem with that, is that i need to run the hard disk in Windows as well.

Hard disk is now running as a NTFS-3g (Macfuse) format, and i highly suspect that could be the main reason it's causing windows to freeze out whenever i try to connect the ehd to Windows.

Can't seemed to find an apparent solution to it.

#1 Anyone knows what will solve this compatibility issue

#2 Seems to me that running movies on this NTFS-3g format through my EHD gives me a lag every 10-20 secs. This could be because of the apparent speed differences (overhead) between NTFS and FAT32 (though was said that it wasn't a big deal). Anyone else has a clearer indictment on the probable problem

Cranky 5/12V Power Supply To eHD

I've got a WD External HDD which i think its either fried, or the power supply's adapter is cranked up.

Problem is to power up the external HD. There's a light on the power supply box to ensure that power is flowing in, and then from there there's another connector from the adapter to the external HDD itself.

When i remove the connector from HD to the power supply, the light on the power supply shows that power is flowing in

BUT, when i connect it to the HD itself, the power dims out, and my HD doesn't power up. Even after removing the connector from power supply (adapter) to the HD, the light is still not present.

Only when i remove the connector to the main board, and reconnect it, the light shows up again.

Anyone with any understanding on whether i've blown up the External HDD's board, or the power supply adapter itself is running weird.

It's a 5v/12v power supply box/adapter

it's an ass truth be told, and i just gave up trying to format it accordingly

I've got a whole bunch of XML lines, and i've got to only extract certain information

<TagList>
<Tag raw='35E01700469384EB000014FB' PC='3000'Reserved ='000000000' time='493467d6'RPL='1'/>
<Tag raw='35E01700487B34B20000D710'/>
</TagList>

There are much more <></> lines above, but this bit is the most important one.

Need to get values for Tag Raw = *

Time = *
and RPL = *

It's a new line after <taglist> and each of those, so that makes it much more of an ass. Was wondering if anyone of you familliar with Regex could lead the pathway

iTunes in Mac OS (XML)

**NEW**

I noticed that the iTunes uses the library in XML format and probably another linking library to get the playlist for iTunes in Mac.

I have some songs that is in the external hard drive, and due to some naming convention, i had some songs that were added to iTunes that used a different HD name. Now iTunes don't recognize the hard drive due to the naming used.

ETC:

QUOTE

file://localhost/Volumes/JONATHAN/Songs/Techno.And.Trance/Tiesto/DJ%20Tie%CC%88sto%20-%20Nyana/Cd.2/DJ%20Tie%CC%88sto%20-%20Nyana%20CD2%20-%2009%20-%20The%20Roc%20Project%20feat.%20Tina%20Arena%20-%20Never.mp3

The name of the hard drive at the moment is the one bolded.

QUOTE

file://localhost/Volumes/Untitled%201/Songs/VA-Absolute_80s/301_eurythmics-sweet_dreams_(are_made_of_this)-lzy.mp3

This are the name of the files that wouldn't work for apparent reasons.
I tried changing the files while iTunes was running. The file was saved and when i reopened it, it seemed alright (changing the volume to JONATHAN).

But when i run iTunes, the XML files seems to reconfigured to the previous state.

I did research and found that it's because iTunes has a built in playlist or something equivalent.
Anyone know if there is a way to batch re-name it?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I already have this question posted around some mac forums, but none has given me an answer, neither has googled helped me. So i'm going to try my luck here.

An old reference, here

I'll summarize it up for those who has heavy fingers to click on the links.

My iTunes has over 8000 songs, from over 500 different albums that i have. Most of my songs are in lossless format. That means each album, once ripped as backup into the computer would be AT LEAST 600 mb (1 hour album). New macbooks can certainly not store all those data's. So i have most of my songs in my hard drive.

Here comes the nifty part, there are some songs that i've ripped into a 320 bit format, because i would like to listen it when i'm at work. So a fair bit (about 2000) songs are in my macbook, whilst those that weren't ripped into lossy format stays in the hard drive but the iTunes references the files in it.

Now, i read through some guides that says that if i want HD to be involved when it comes to iTunes, i would have to consolidate the library. That seems a bit stretched now that i've got all the songs loaded into iTunes, with ratings and proper compartmentalizing format. To start from scratch would take days or even months judging by the amount of free time i have even after work.

So the problem is this, you have some songs that are in the internal hard disk, and some songs in the external hard disk being referenced in iTunes. Funny thing is this, some songs from the external works, and sometimes it doesn't. So i'll see that flirtatious (!) at the side of the song, and i reconnect the hard drive, the thing would just disappear. Just when i thought iTunes got the link right, some other songs has that sexy (!) mark.
I tried to search for the architecture of iTunes file referencing, but i haven't been lucky. Or my keywords just doesn't seemed right.

My emphasis on this, is that it happens ONLY IN MAC OS. No such thing in windows iTunes.

Now that's a mystery for Robert Langdon to solve, or are there anyone else with this problem? (I'm pretty sure there are some of you that has loads of songs stored in hard disk or at least had the same qualms as i am currently experiencing)

Mac For Graphics Designing, Better Than Windows.

I've been doing some googling, to actually see why this quote is still flying around in this cyber scene.
People leave a vague comment stating that mac's better for graphic designing, but as far as processor wise, or even graphic card wise, i really can't see why

People might argue that the OS architecture is built in a way to maximize graphic settings for mac machines, but again, maybe i ran out of luck trying to google for the right topic.

I know for one, 8/10 people would say mac's a better platform for graphic designing, the question is..

Why?

HERE

QUOTE

As blogs continue to gain popularity and credibility, a blogger from a certain country is aiming to have the first fully sponsored funeral in Asia for his best friend. The blogger is offering free publicity for any company/blogger/individual that chooses to sponsor the funeral.

M-I-B is an influential blogger from somewhere in the depths of the world and understands that often blogs are a go-to-source for customers. The blog serves as an information source for future dead people, with families sharing details on how to find great funeral deals.

With a funeral planned in January, M-I-B will blog about companies that have helped finance the funeral via Paypal. In addition to writing about these companies, he will include a sponsor's logo on the blog. Sponsors so far include Golf House and Pierre Cardini.

With the winter funeral season under way and people planning the 2008 funerals, many people turn to the internet, especially my blog, for advice. Companies who choose to sponsor the funeral will gain exposure for their organization from a global audience, as well as an increase i traffic to their website.

To find out more information, visit http://mib-loggers.blogspot.com

This are the things that we still need sponsors for.

1) A suit for my buddy (Preferably Armani, or Hugo Boss)
2) Professional make-up artist (Preferably someone with extensive skills in managing make-ups)
3) A hearse, to carry the big load (Preferably a hummer modified hearse)
4) A decorative flower that will be put in front of the hearse. (Preferably white beautiful flowers)
5) Professional mourners (Preferably single, under-30 girls, and virgins)
6) A lot of favors from people to help organize the funeral, send out invitations and publicize the event
7) And a fully customize tombstone

Cheers!

This was an excerpt from their blog, i'm kindly doing a deed for him.

It was an obvious parody...

My apologies, i've got Windows Visual Studio installed, so i can't click on more details to post up the error because the Visual Studio JIT will just prompt me if i want to debug it on a the software.

The error, explorer.exe has caused an unexpected breakdown occurs everytime i CLOSE a windows application

Some stuffs that are expected..

-My computer
-Control Panel
-Recycle Bin
-Any windows explorer window

The error will pop up, and it automatically closes explorer.exe and it has to reload it.
Mozilla and other stuffs won't be affected.

Is it a glitch between softwares in windows OS? (running on XP).
Its just plain annoying that the times i close a windows or recycle bin, it automatically ends explorer.exe and forces the whole sysstem to reload .

I've got a very blur video to give the analysis a in-depth view.
It'll be updated soon, but anyone of you have an hypothesis of this problem, it'll be of great help
[YOUTUBE]http://www.youtube.com/v/b0ekbUnIi-0&rel=1[/YOUTUBE]

link not working, so

http://www.youtube.com/v/b0ekbUnIi-0&rel=1

This. will. i. hope.

Notebook cannot start up.

How's it going there people.
My friend owns a HP DV2020, this morning when he booted up the notebook, he was faced with this loud beeping sound and the notebook would not be able to start up at all. The lights are lid up, but even after an hour of wait, nothing shows up.

Our first suspect would be the ram, but even after we removed the ram, the sound that was produced came out differently. We even removed the HD just to see if its the HD's failure, but again it comes out with a different sound.

Of course, there will be a probability that the ram is dead, but judging by things going, it really seemed to me like a MoBo failure.

The procedure in which happened the night before was normal, just a normal shut down and he woke up to this horrid scene.

Anyone that has experience in this matter, or even the slightest idea what the beep sounds represent would really be of great help.
[YOUTUBE]<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/MnBLhFAQicg&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/MnBLhFAQicg&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>[/YOUTUBE]

If the above embedded link doesn't work, do click on this one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnBLhFAQicg
Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball

Good Evening People,

This thread will be informations that relays directly to Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Basketball.

Following are details, and background on what this is all about.

[Fantasy Basketball]

Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball is an online simulation game, where each player is allowed to join a private league, public league or to create a league of their own.

Once in a league, (usually a league of 12 players) each player will be given control of a team. During the duration of the season, there will be an allocated day where each league will go through a round of drafting.

There are two different methods that Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball has their drafting done. One is through live draft, where each team will be allowed to do draftings live on a specific day and time, following the way it is done in NBA. Another would be pre-draft. Each team will have to pre-draft their team with priorities for each player.

Once each team has pre-drafted their players, commissioner will set the draft status of the league to ready and commencement of draft will be done via methods that has been pre-defined by Commish prior to creation of league. Each team will be given a random order, and the team that is given the #1 order will have the liberty to choose the player they have on the highest priority. The next team will follow suit and Yahoo! Fantasy draft will pick the players according to the highest priority for each team as long as the players remain undrafted.

The team that has been given #1 pick will be the first to choose, during the first round of pick. Once the first round of pick is over, the order of picking will be reversed.

N = number of team
X = current team seed

X = N-X

Order will be reversed on each round.

To succeed, managers has to be astute with their draft order, ever ready to sacrifice big names for more consistency on the floor. There are plenty of ways to play this game.

During the duration of the game, teams will be allowed to make trades, or add players from the pool of free agents.

We have two leagues in LYN.

LYN 1 is set on HEAD-To-HEAD

LYN 2 is set on ROTISSERIE

In order to monitor and keep track of managers that is already in the league, i'll suggest anyone interested in playing to just send me a PM to indicate their interest, and i'll guide them to join the league

LYN 1 is already on its second season , during which the first season, we've had 12 strong managers battle it out for the top spot. Priority will be given to players that was in the league to rejoin before i open it up to the public. We still have 5 slots to spare for LYN 1 and plenty more LYN 2.

Join in the fun, join Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Basketball

The first league needs one more player, so make yourself available!

Teams

Red Suns	-Nos-
getbackers - ban45
Frailty
spursfan14 - chow_vincevince
INTI - rickyone
Hoop Busters
Airwings
kyoko4eva - kyoko4eva
JuMpMaN23 - JuMpMaN23
EroS - EroS
Zyp3rn
Deviant Serene - -Jonathan-

- Bolded names are returnees

Making things neater in Apple Byte

Whilst i am reminiscing how to program @ 6:45 a.m, i just thought of posting this up since i browse through Apple Byte often.

(Still brain-dead)

I dont know what other things, and i dont know how active the forum is comparatively, but will it be any good if there is a subforum for

- iPods
- Macbook (all notebook related)
- iMac (all desktop related)

It just help keep things organized judging by how many redundant iPhone, macbook threads that is being created. I don't know how this will effect the system memory, but i guess this suggestion will just help put things in order....

Or maybe a subforum for technical support for apple products, or..........erm nevermind the list goes on and on

But the gist is mainly the ones mentioned foremost

char a [30] = "Programming sucks";
(printf ("To show this variable ", a); )
 (System.out.println ("Reiteration of the point above, " + a)

Installing GCC on Macintosh

Alrighty, been struggling to install GCC package 4.0 on my macbook.

Wasn't that hard on linux or anything, but i dont know why it ain't working on the mac machine

So i've installed gcc 4.0 and as the matter of fact, even 3.3 on the macbook. I tried saving a .c file in the desktop, running command such as..

gcc <filename.c>, but it says

-bash: gcc: command not found

Im doing computer graphics as well, so the template for compile an openGL is

cc main-good.c -o simple -framework GLUT -framework OpenGL -lobjc
-bash: cc: command not found

Pretty sure that gcc 4.0 is installed because the next time i intended to install, it says upgrade. I've tried linking it using sudo, also to no avail.

Kinda sucky that i can't work this out eventhough its one of my essential

Stupid comp science

Building Up A Server via Notebook

Aye, I just need some background assistant in setting up a database/file server to garner some knowledge about it. More like a summer project for me. I am in Australia now, where internet usage is done via bandwidth (money). That means, i've got to pay a certain amount of money to use this amount of bandwidth. Well to put it in layman term, no unlimited access unless i fork out a hefty sum.

With a wireless router stationed in our unit, my housemate and I thought, why dont i convert the notebook im using to type this (A P3 x86 128 ram) into a temporary server system just for the fun of it. I personally thought of this but haven't had the time or support to implement this because of my heavy university studies.

With the macbook i'm getting soon, there will be no place for me to use this old machine, so its best to utilize it elsewhere as a mini-storage device, or if we get an unlimited bandwidth internet offer, put this machine online to host a few of our sites. I'm getting uBuntu soon, so this machine will be entirely reformatted and configured to be a server.

I haven't started doing this, but i'm just drafting out the things i need to do. I have a wireless router, and i've got maybe the time during the summer. But i lack the sufficient knowledge to configure a linux platform server.
What other functions can this "server" do for the benefit of things?

How do i even begin configuring to begin with.:? Been surfing the net to get a documentation on setting up the linux platform for server, but haven't really found much. Anyone done this before?

Apple Or Not Apple...

Greetings,
I am currently in a mode to get a new notebook. My current predicament is the choices between a Mac or Non-Mac device. I would appreciate mac users to give feedback based on the attributes i'm listing down

--> I'm currently studying in Melbourne. The price of a Macbook is nearly the same once converted, its AUD$1,449 student price, which equates to RM4,151.00.

--> If i'm coming back to Malaysia, will it be better to get it in Australia or Malaysia?

--> I am a computer scientist, that needs the apple terminal feature for programming purposes

--> I am not a hardcore gamer, but i would love to be able to play games on my future machine. Etc Dota, NFS, GTA.

--> I am not a real fan of Windows, but a lot of softwares are based on that platform, would the Macbook be able to sustain duo OS, not parallel, but rebootable version of duo OS

I think the programming thing is the only main reason why an apple would be the best. But i'm not limited by just that. I can use Microsoft Visual C++ or any of that sort. But i really love to give apple a try. My worries would be inclusive of the price, which a lot my friend says getting a mid/top range notebook like HP would give me a similar or better processor, adding the fact that HP has better graphics @ that price.

I dont own a MacBook, so i dont know how it fares graphics wise. I am programming openGL, which requires certain graphic power, i know Mac can support. But like i say, i'm torn in between. Would getting a mac dampen my chances of playing games? lol

Just trying to explain the scenario here again

I was going to my phonebook on the phone. I was going to search for my "precious" numbers, which is not labelled A-Z, but it starts with a dollar sign, so i usually press button 1, which will go to the end of the list. But this time, the phone sorta shuts off, but its not really shut off. But it sometime shows clear white screen, and than blank screen, whenever i press something, it goes white screen again. Having no options left, i took the batteries out and than i re-insert it.

I could start it with no problem, and i wanted to call my friend still, so i tried it again. Same results, shuts off, so i removed the battery again. So i thought, well maybe some software problem, so i tried scrolling to the name the next time around, and again it gives me the same problem. So i decided to start the phone, and than use the formal way to shut the phone down, but this time, i could not start the phone again.

Whenever i hold on the start button on top of the phone, the signal light on top, will beep red. When i want to charge my phone, the signal light on top beeps red. Usually it beeps green when in normal operation, and red when downloads and transfers of data is commencing

I am in Australia now, i really need this handphone or else, ill be rendered useless here...i can't possibly fix it here, can't get anyone to help me in Auz. And im too far to courier it back...please help

Identifying The Power Adaptor Problem

Im using a compaq notebook
Lately, i can't charge my batteries, and i dont think its the battery problem because my notebook is still working nicely on batteries.

When i use the power voltage to run the notebook, the screen will be brighter, thus im very certain that the error would be from the adaptor.

Anyhow, i can't determine whether its the fuse of the main plug, or the adapter itself....

Any how to check?

And how much is for one compaq adapter?
