Brief guide to picking between the main 3 ISPs

Since i last posted on the forums long ago i have now finally worked for one of the core ISPs, so i get a lot of insight and also experience into different ISPs. So if you're going to grab some internet from the big main 3 heres a brief guide to help you choose. Sadly i can't provide speed test only information of how they work and do things.

Previously TM unifi was the package you wanted if you wanted cheap "high speed" international traffic, nowadays this isnt true and i have to VPN just to work datacenter (we have a few) just to get decent access to sites located outside the country, though our connections is pretty fast in terms of global latency but really not cheap.

I write this review having tested all 3 before with good hardware/configuration, so if you are experiencing a problem, consider changing your router to a good one. your wifi woes are the fault of the device not the ISP. Make sure your optical cable is in good condition and they hate sharp bends. The cable you plug into your modem is called GPON - gigabit passive optical networking. It is a plastic cable with a single core (hence you can't call it fiber). One problem all ISP staff have is if you live in a "rich" area they will treat you like crap

So first, TM. TM is currently the worst ISP offering out of the main 3. You'll never get the speeds you subscribed for (this past 1 year speeds have been slow. while upload is still okish on the 800/200 package, the downloads you can expect half in speed test). TM is currently still a wide provider of connectivity as many still rely on their infrastructure such as maxis but thats going to change soon. Currently i find that TM has significantly decreased in speed significantly though i never got close to what i subscribed long ago. While they also have mobile packages, they dont have much of a combined package like others offered. Speed to datacenters are good though so local traffic is fine (though most datacenters are managed by TIME). p2p transfers between maxis and TM home users are very very slow. Only good thing is that TM can move with you within contract.

Maxis. Maxis does decently in speed test in terms of what you subscribed and has quite a few offers to add on including mobile packages. So if the extra stuff you get cheap and having both mobile and broadband unified into a single package of lower cost, this is what you'll want. International traffic sucks except for links that maxis have (such as to india) while local traffic is fast but p2p transfers between maxis and TM home users are very slow.

Time. Although time offers very fast internet cheap, their coverage is small combined with a lack of other offerings. Not everyone needs high speed internet and doesn't need anything else or prefers to ala carte everything. TIME owns a lot of datacenters in malaysia both directly and indirectly and has the best localised internet speeds (not just subscribed but also you get what you pay for for local traffic). The only problem with TIME is that you have the worst international traffic speeds, this is based on my own experience as well. If you plan to host or visit sites outside malaysia such as video streaming some site at the corner of the internet in the US, you won't even get 1Mb/s of consistency that you will end up buffering a lot and calling support daily.

When picking a mobile telco, consider your main use whether it is in a static location or on the move. In main cities many of them have coverage everywhere. Its important to understand like with regular ISPs that they have tiers. maxis, celcom, digi own their own towers (or have some they share) while unifi mobile, yes, etc use other peoples towers, so you will find that their offers differ in this way. For instance digi may have a cheap offer compared to yes but yes coverage may be better due to being able to use more towers from different towers.

Like with all things, please make sure to read between the lines before you subscribe. Maxis cannot move if you move place but TM unifi can, so if you move before the contract is finished, this is something to take note. Things like traffic throttling and FUP on mobile packages are a problem so make sure to read it carefully. If you try to exit early while not paying, you could end up on telco blacklist or something which means you may not be able to subscribe to another provider till you finish paying up. Make sure to read early termination penalties.

Working in a malaysian coreISP sucks, because of the usual malaysians. I cant even approach someone without being complained about when i try to figure out how things work in the company and better understand the product. coreISPs essentially give you good routes and dedicated internet, along with other protections like DDOS and the company also offers other products such as physical server hosting, educational platform hosting, etc. The problem is its still a malaysian company and suffers from the usual mindset issues being a malaysian company, despite being better than average. I like the work, just hate the people. Unfortunately malaysian hosting will still suck since they still reject my designs (good hosting in malaysia is difficult to find).

treatment after vaccine, need advice

1 day after getting pfizer my mum forced me to some expensive alternative medicine doctor that did a blood based ozone treatment and blood based ultravilot treatment. For those who don't know what this is https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/320759 where basically blood is taken out, with ozone added and put back in. same done for ultraviolet. Worse my mum thinks my blood is dirty after seeing the dark vein blood go through the machine and become red.

However the main question is, does this jeopardise the vaccine? I did not get any ill effects from the vaccine and my mum flipped when i got pfizer instead of sinovac. Shes antivax, believes all the fake stuff and still thinks its a depopulation plan or that mRNA is bad and so on and so forth, same for my brother too. Thing is, sinovac requires a dose every 3 months while pfizer is 6 months and she keeps quoting all sorts of bs data that sinovac countries are reopening and singaporeans are paying for it.

Still while i can survive quacks and have to pay for their expense just so my mum wont sell shares, my mum is old and vulnerable so i dont want the vaccine to be ineffective on myself at least if it would stop covid from spreading.

previously my family was stopping me for getting treatment. Even though i'm an adult my car was stuck in repair for a few months due to shutdowns and the workshop not being able to open so not like i could cirvumvent them, but my job finally helped in making it mandatory. Even the malay/muslim only companies they tried to promote all bragged about being fully vaccinated as well.

old religious people

A friend of mine had an injury and his insurance which is etiqa is refusing to cover anything. He is an international student and has no choice on the insurance because the university forces you to apply for it as well, and now that he needs it they are avoiding him in every way possible, refusing to cover for the treatment (he needs to go to therapy and get a scan), refusing to give him the terms of his insurance. Currently he is unable to continue his studies without getting treatment but the insurance is refusing to cover and are very rude to him on the phone trying to deny him in every way possible.

tm unifi package issue

A couple of months ago i registered for TM unifi at a TMpoint, they said it was the last day of promotion for 100Mb/s at 239 so i subscribed for it, first bill i received was over 600 and when i asked apparently the package costs 299 with some different hypptv package, when asked they said they can reduce it to 269 with a lesser hypptv package and now they say they cant.

So how do i proceed with this?

Time internet very slow international traffic

After having used time internet, i find that it is very slow internationally, slower than tm unifi in both international bandwidth. For instance i could stream a 4k video from a UK server using tm unifi 30Mb/s but using time internet it would just pixelate or buffer.

Heres some technical:

dslreports multi server speed test
http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/25682289
This tests multiple servers in other countries at the same time, achieving about half of said speed on download. Upload however seems good which is what i usually care about more but this isnt really what it seems.

Individual tests between europe and

Simultaneous with 2 sessions
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/3665...338/unknown.png (session 1)
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/3665...641/unknown.png (session 2)

single sessions (separate, not simultaneous)
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/3665...075/unknown.png
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/3665...179/unknown.png

This is a very very poor result. Test was done using ethernet/SFP+ to router at 1 am in a SOHO building in cyberjaya where internet usage would be minimal. The mikrotik bandwidth tests were done over pptp vpn from europe by having someone with very good internet (250Mb/s) connect to my router using pptp VPN. he had between 200-300ms ping. My router is a mikrotik ccr1036 so it has way more than enough CPU power, and ram to handle way more than what time offers even in vpn speeds.

If 100Mb/s time internet cannot offer decent international speeds, it seems pointless to upgrade either. Local speeds are very very good but its really bad when many tools and software i need to download are usually from some website in another country or torrent (i.e. linux distros and IDE softwares). It seems that TM unifi is actually faster than time internet when it comes to international traffic. as i have both tm unifi and time internet at separate places.

The other problem is that time still hasnt unblocked their voip provided phone after paying bills.

Hi, I'm being brute forced from multiple systems located in different countries on attempt to login. I dont know if this is just some random guy using systems that have been compromised with bots to attempt to bruteforce or DDOS but it is causing hogging the network on the upload side of things.

Although i am using unifi i am using a fast routerboard. I read that reporting to TM would not help in any of these cases.

I've uploaded the router log. There is another routerlog continuing before this log but it is currently very long so the file size is large. This log is the most recent.

I am not using any domains such as no-ip or dyndns, no dedicated ip.

I did a whois on the IPs to find out what country they are from.

I would like some help and advice on this matter and on the right actions to take.

Thanks

Should i get TM Unifi?

Hi there, seeing TM finally coming out with a nice new fast package, i was wondering about applying for it, but the prices are just very high and the bandwidth just isnt that high as well.

In the UK, there are ISPs that give 50Mbps of internet for just 30 pounds a month bundled with phone package as well and comes with a wireless router, lots of other software but no bandwidth caps or limits and such whereas the 20Mbps in malaysia costs rm249 a month and according to TM has a limit to how much you can use and comes with a wireless router that tends to hangs.

I'm a gamer, developer and a heavy user when it comes to uploading. There are a few facts about TM i'd like to point out as well.

TM's internal network somehow seems messy. When i used to host a nice and unique hl2dm server, a player from malaysia who also uses streamyx and lives in west malaysia gets 50ms ping whereas a player from Singapore gets 40ms ping. German players get between 200 to 300ms. I also recently did a pingtest to a server in KL and got horrible results on my current streamyx line. My server never got popular because of high pings and streamyx's low bandwidth. Even recently, i am able to achieve 1.5M on streamyx 1M but the latency is just very high. ( file attachment)

When i google search or check my email, i tend to find a number of spam emails that have been traced back to TM, thus putting TM on the international blacklist. This makes me unable to browse certain websites. I think it may also explain the high latency since other ISPs may have blacklisted TM for hosting spammers. If TM were to act strictly against spammers, it would help to ease congestion. (Spam bots can congest networking hardware sometimes, tried using password guessing software and it sometimes hangs the modem ( i was testing it for my own security rather)).

So before i decide to apply, there are a few things i would like to know.

1) Is the bandwidth limit for TM unifi still imposed? And if it still is, i hope its montly and not daily caps.

2) Can i use my own network hardware instead? I was lucky to get a sun blade 2000 at a give away price with all its internal components ( has sun solaris 10 and a 1 Gbps Fibre card[64-bits] ) and gives a very good throughput. I was able to download a file while in college from my sun blade at home at the full 1Mbps streamyx upload speed in a net of 4Mbps for 500 people and bad wireless connections. I would like to know if i could use that rather than the given modem and router, sun solaris does have all the software needed.

3) Do bandwidth errors oftenly happen? like do you oftenly get to use much more than what you paid for at some times since i've seen people post their speednet tests of 200 to 300Mbps. If the sun machine could've been used, than it could've gone higher, probably 1 Gbps?

4) Hows the service in TTDI? i oftenly see fleets of TM vans going about daily.

5) i'm not a heavy p2p user, i prefer direct downloads using a download manager or Steam.
Although the sun blade 2000 is old and may sound slow, it is capable of handling many things at once without lagging or slowing down. I could open as many applications as i want and do as much as i want without it slowing down.
